·        MCRC EGC Unanimously Passes Resolution Tonight to Re-appoint David Schweikert to the House Financial Services Committee:

o   Whereas, The Experience Of David Schweikert Should Not Be Disregarded, Including Being Elected Majority Whip In The Arizona State House Of Representatives Where He Sponsored One Of The Largest Tax Cuts In Arizona History (Ushering In Two Of The Shortest And Most Successful Legislative Sessions By Cutting Spending To Reduce The Size Of State Government) And As Chairman Of The Arizona State Board Of Equalization Where He Oversaw Billions Of Dollars From Arizona Citizens And Businesses, And As Treasurer Of Maricopa County (One Of The Largest Counties In The United States) Where He Protected Billions Of Taxpayer Dollars And Earned Over $300 Million In Investment Income Without Running A Deficit During Difficult Economic Times; Therefore, Be It
o   Resolved, That The Maricopa County Republican Executive Guidance Committee Hereby Whole-Heartedly Endorse Recently Re-Elected David Schweikert Of Congressional District 6 To Be Re-Appointed To The House Financial Services Committee By House Speaker John Boehner
·        AZGOP Chairman’s Letter To Speaker Boehner Reqarding Schweikert: I write in support of Congressman David Schweikert from Arizona’s Sixth District, who was recently re-elected and is one of Arizona’s four Republican Congressmen in the new Congress. Until recently, he served at your pleasure on the House Financial Services Committee.
On behalf of Arizona’s 1.1 million Republicans, and especially those in the Sixth Congressional District, we are greatly disturbed that the representative we worked so hard to elect would have his service to the country, expertise, and allegiance to his constituents cast aside so carelessly by House leadership.
As Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, I understand our challenges are similar: to support our party’s principles while keeping order and winning elections. However, our party and Congressman Schweikert’s constituents feel abused and betrayed by the actions of party leaders in your chamber.
I respectfully ask that our Congressman Schweikert be reappointed the the House Financial Services Committee. -  Tom Morrissey, AZGOP Chairman

·        Today, Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ), along with Congressman Rick Crawford (R-AR), led a coalition of House members urging House and Senate leaders to include a Balanced Budget Amendment as part of a deal to avert the so-called “fiscal cliff.” In a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the House members said, “We believe it is critical to our Nation’s future that any legislation from current ‘fiscal cliff’ negotiations include a permanent limitation on the ability of Congress to spend money we don’t have.  At a time when the U.S. treasury borrows thirty-one cents of every dollar spent, we need real reform that cannot be dodged, delayed, or punted to future Congresses.”

·        Secretary Bennett Responds To State Supreme Court Opinion: Arizona’s Supreme Court has released its final opinion regarding the lawsuit filed against the Secretary of State’s office by proponents of a failed ballot measure which would have permanently increased state sales taxes to fund education and infrastructure projects.  The opinion affirms Bennett’s position that the office acted lawfully and reasonably in rejecting the ballot measure because petitions signed by voters did not match the official language filed in the office.  Additionally, the Court ruled the state would not pay attorneys’ fees, which resulted in a savings of taxpayer dollars.
“Today’s opinion released by the state Supreme Court regarding the lawsuit is extremely gratifying and reassuring,” said Bennett.  “From the moment our office discovered the error made by the Quality Education and Jobs committee, we knew litigation was imminent regardless of whether or not we accepted the filing.  It was extremely satisfying to see the court concurred that the ballot measure committee precipitated the lawsuit by inadvertently submitting differing versions of the measure.
·        Franks: Palestinian Authority Unwilling To Negotiate For Peace: In light of yesterday’s expected United Nations vote to recognize the Palestinian Authority's statehood, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02), Chairman of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus, strongly criticized President Mahmoud Abbas, both for favoring a symbolic political stunt over the well-being of his own people, and for being unwilling to directly negotiate for peace with Israel:  "By once again turning his back on bilateral talks, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is firmly placing yet another nail in the coffin of the Peace Process. By turning away from direct negotiations, Abbas is violating the fundamental principles of two decades of Israeli-Palestinian agreements. By doing so, he risks losing the financial assistance from the United States and Israel on which the precarious Palestinian Authority is so dependent. This effort by the Palestinian leadership to bypass direct negotiations again makes it all too clear that the PA is unwilling to negotiate for peace with Israel – no matter what the cost to the Palestinian people, and all in pursuit of a purely symbolic victory at the United Nations.  Sadly, this behavior typifies the Palestinian Leadership that for so long has kept its people in poverty and destitution by refusing to reach a negotiated peace with Israel."
·        Laura Ingrahm: The good news is that President Obama decided to sit down and discuss the fiscal cliff yesterday. The bad news is he didn't sit down with Republicans; he sat down with MSNBC hosts. Rachel Maddow, Al Sharpton, Lawrence O'Donnell, and Ed Schultz all stopped by the White House to discuss the President's fiscal cliff proposal. Can anyone even imagine how the press would have reacted if Fox News hosts and conservative personalities had stopped by the Bush White House to discuss policy? They would have been rightly outraged. Given MSNBC's history of blatantly promoting the DNC's talking points and spewing left-wing talking points, maybe its time they just become Obama's official mouthpiece.
