Editor’s Note: Condolence cards may be sent to Sen. Judy Burges & family, P.O. Box 5361, Sun City West, AZ. 85376.  Sen. Burges prefers memorials to the church in lieu of flowers. Robert was a well-known, well-liked GOP State Committeeman, the past chairman of old LD4, the current chairman of the Sun City West Tea Party and he held numerous offices in Yavapai County over the years.

A Scholarship Fund In Behalf Of Robert Burges has been started by conservative activitist Sue Goodchild.  Goodchild notes that Burges worked at Yavapai College and served on its board of directors. In lieu of flowers, scholarship contributions can be made out to “Scholarship Fund For Robert Burges” and mailed to Sue Goodchild, 1905 W. Road 2 South, Chino Valley, AZ 86323.   - Sue Goodchild & Rick Hennessy

Robert Orin Burges Went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning August 19.  Robert was born September 20, 1938, to Roy and Nancy Lucile Burges in Borger, Texas and was given the beloved nick name “Shorty 44”.  Shorty is survived by his loving wife Arizona State Senator Judy Burges; sisters Jewel Aulds, Joan Gerstner, Snooky Brakhage.  His brother, Jerry, preceded Robert in death and welcomed Robert into Heaven.  Robert Burges loved and delighted in his daughters Julie Chiantaretto and Ronda Apolinar along with his son, Robert (Bobby) Burges.  A very proud Grandfather to Victor Longoria, John Apolinar, Duffy Apolinar, Art Burges, Felecia Burges, Andreya Apolinar and Colton Chiantaretto. Robert Burges enjoyed the honor of being a Great Grandfather to Antonio Longoria, Angelo Longoria and Andreo Longoria.

Robert “Shorty” Burges moved to Arizona in 1953,  attended high school in Bagdad, Arizona and was elected Bagdad’s first Homecoming King.  He was also voted senior class President and was a proud member of the National Honor Society.  Upon graduation, “Shorty” attended Northern Arizona University (NAU) where he studied Finance.  After college, he worked for Mountain Bell and then returned to Bagdad in 1960 going to work at the mine driving hauling trucks and working in the solvent extraction plant.

In the late 1970’s and early 80’s Robert was a member of the governing board for Yavapai College, but also enjoyed a long tenure working for the college until he retired in 2003.

Robert Burges loved and cared deeply for his family, and looked forward to each and every family gathering.  Robert was a full partner with Senator Judy Burges in her service to the State of Arizona; first, as a member of the House of Representatives and later as a member of the State Senate.  Robert was actively engaged in his own right as a precinct committee chair, representative of the Tea Party, supporter of candidates who declared their genuine love for the people and State of Arizona, and served as a consultant to many in various levels of service.  Robert “Shorty” Burges truly loved to his core Arizona and the Code of the West, the land, and people.  Bob was fully engaged in greeting and meeting people across Arizona and loved the process of representative government.  He was quick with a smile and a kind and gentle sense of humor.  Robert Burges shall be sorely missed by his partner-in-life, his adoring wife, Judy; there is a whole in the extended Burges family at the loss of a great Dad and doting Grandfather; and the State of Arizona is a little less brighter today at the loss of one of its’ favorite sons – Robert Orin “Shorty” Burges has left the state but not the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  --   Lyle Rapacki

Obama Campaign Stop Protest

Carmona And Obama Embrace Futility As Arizona Republicans Widen Lead by 30,000 Voters: Republicans Now Outnumber Democrats by 178,000.  Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett has released a report showing that 36% of Arizona’s three million voters are registered Republicans, with Democrats falling far behind at 30% of the electorate.  Republicans outnumber Democrats 1,113,123 to 935,098 Democrats, a difference of 178,025 voters.  In October 2011, when Democrat Richard Carmona decided to run, the advantage was 149,281.
Republicans also hold every statewide executive branch office and a supermajority in the legislature.

“When President Obama recruited Democrat Richard Carmona last year to run for Senate, they both ignored some key facts about Arizona voters who are now running away from the liberal policies of Obama and Carmona,” said Arizona Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert.  “With Obama’s lawsuit against Arizona, his failure on the economy and 8% unemployment, Obama’s drafting of Richard Carmona to run in such a heavily Republican state is another sign they’ve both seriously misjudged Arizona’s voters.” AZGOP.org
