·        Sun Lakes Republican Club Chairman Mike Tennant is suffering complications from Dec. 4 surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. Tennant was transferred from Mercy Gilbert Hospital today to the HealthSouth facility: East Valley Rehabilitation Hospital, 5652 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa, (off the I-60 at the Higley exit.)
Tennant has Acute Rhaedomyolysis, a condition that is caused by trauma to the body, particularly to the muscles and the kidneys, and often to those who are taking statins, according to SLRC First Vice Chairman Carolyn McCorkle.
As a leukemia survivor and a heart attack survivor, he was on several prescription drugs, which reacted with the anesthesia from his knee surgery.
Three days after his knee surgery, he was unable to move any of his muscles and was transported by EMS to the hospital. His kidneys were shutting down, and his muscles' cells were dumping into his blood stream.  It was life threatening.  Fortunately, the MDs were able to arrest this condition, and Mike is now stable and his kidneys are functioning normally again.  He will require extensive Rehab, three hours per day, to restore and reteach his muscles to function.
Tennant would appreciate visitors at the rehab hospital. Please work around his physical therapy sessions by calling his wife Sandy to check his schedule. Cards can be sent to: 26621 S. Lakewood Dr., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248.  Home:  480-802-0178    Cell:  262-880-4620  mstennant@yahoo.com
