·        AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham Message - Reflecting On The 101st Anniversary Of Arizona's Statehood:"As we celebrate the anniversary of Arizona's admission to the Union and official recognition as one of the United States of America, we should pause to remember our roots.  We are well aware of how this land was developed -- from a sparse desert in the south and endless pines in the north -- into a bustling territory and later into a state thriving with communities of growth and opportunity.
"We must never forget the hardships of those who came before us -- those who planted and harvested, settled and re-settled, fought and made peace, and built and grew this place into a home for all of us.  And just as our forebears sacrificed and shaped for our benefit, just as they formed our state and our Constitution, and just as they created a lawful society that guaranteed our self-sufficiency and freedom, we renew today our pledge of constant support of these precious gifts.  We do this not just for ourselves, but for the sake of the next generations.
"Here in Arizona, we have been given much, so we can be optimistic that our future will be as full of opportunity and prosperity as so much of our past has been.  We are hopeful for another century of beneficence because we understand the brightness of our future depends upon our well-rooted principles, the strength of our institutions, and our diligent defense of our freedom.  Our future as a state and as a community is reliant on these hard-earned things, and it is fitting to celebrate today and every day that we have our responsibilities, our rights, our laws, and each other."

·        Americans for Prosperity Recommends:
ü  Contact the two gatekeepers in the House Rules Committee, House SpeakerAndy Tobin (R-Yavapai County) and House Rules Chairman Bob Robson (R-Ahwatukee/Chandler), and encourage them to allow ALL of the union reform bills to get out of the Rules Committee. Rather than following a failed policy of trying to appease the unions, conservative Legislators need to take away the unions' political slush funds.  Robson ( and/or 602-926-5549) and Tobin ( and/or 602-926-5172) with the following short message: "I am writing/calling to respectfully request that you allow ALL of the labor reform bills (SB 1182, HB 2438, HB 2330, HB 2343 and HB 2026) to get out of the Rules Committee and go to floor votes in the House."
ü  Paycheck Protection (SB 1182 and HB 2438):   Of the labor reforms moving in the Legislature this year, passing Paycheck Protection is the most important objective for 2013. Aside from the principled objective of protecting workers' freedom of association, the political impact of Paycheck Protection cannot be overstated. After Washington passed Paycheck Protection, teacher union PAC funds in that State shrank by 75 percent. After Utah passed the reform, teacher union political funds shrank by 90 percent. Paycheck Protection (SB 1182 and HB 2438) would prohibit government employers from taking money from employee's paychecks for political activities without express annual authorization.
ü  Transparency in government union negotiations (HB 2330): HB 2330 would protect taxpayers by requiring that union collective bargaining ("meet-and-confer") be subject to the same open meeting laws as other government meetings, including the requirement that meetings be recorded by audiovisual means.
ü  Reform abuses of government union release time (HB 2343):HB 2343 would protect taxpayers by prohibiting governments from giving government workers paid time off (on the taxpayer dime!) for engaging in pro-union lobbying.
ü  TAKE ACTION! use This Link To SEND A QUICK AND EASY EMAIL to your legislators, asking them to support reform bills that would rein in the power of government employee unions. Contact: Tom Jenney - Arizona Director Americans for Prosperity (602) 478-0146
·        Call to Action: MCRC Chairman A.J. LaFaro: Call to Action -  I want to make you aware of bills that I am concerned about. Your involvement can make a big difference. that will allow you to email all of the legislators of the House and let them know how you feel.
ü  HB2343 - Public Employees, Compensation For Union Activity summary/h.hb2343   This bill prohibits taxpayer dollars to be used for union activity.  If you believe union dues and not taxpayer dollars should fund union activities email the legislature and tell them to vote YES on HB2343. Committee hearing: 2/19/13.
·        Paul Bender, Professor Of Law And Dean Emeritus At ASU Law, has agreed to provide a (very timely) update on the status of the law relating to the Second Amendment at the AZ Republican Lawyers Assocation ( AzRLA) 11:30 am, Feb 22 luncheon, at Snell & Wilmer (400 E. ·        AZ Congressman Trent Franks Says Pastor Abedini Must Be Released: After joining 83 of his House and Senate colleagues on a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry urging the State Department to "exhaust every option" in securing the release of American pastor Saeed Abedini, who was sentenced for his faith to eight years in one of Iran's harshest prisons, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-08) sat down briefly in his office to talk about the case:
·        Due To Public Pressure, HB2060 (Censure Bill  - Which Would Have Allowed School Board Members To Censure Each Other) Will NOT Go To Vote This Session. According to Arizona Conservative Educators Chairman Laddie Shane some of the 22 Republican school board members elected during the last election cycle are the only conservative members on their boards. Shane recently stated, “They are trying to stand up against the outrageous budget proposals and bonds/overrides that burden the taxpayers when that money never makes it to the classroom.  If HB 2060 passes, their voice will be censured because being against a bond/override that goes against a liberal majority stance will be as ‘noncompliance of approved board policy.’”  Shane pointed out that the Arizona School Board Association (ASBA) teaches that a board member should always support the majority vote publicly once it has been cast and that it is unethical to speak to the media about why they may have voted against the majority.  Shane also noted that in a incident within Maricopa County, a board president attempted to censured a board member for supporting ARS15-511 (prohibits use of school district resources to influence the outcome of an election) following a parent complaint of ARS 15-511 violation.

·        Over 80 Senators And Representatives Urge State Dept. To "Exhaust Every Option" In Release Of Abedini:  Today, Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ), Co-Chairman of the International Religious Freedom Caucus, along with over 80 colleagues from the House and Senate, sent a letter to Secretary of State John F. Kerry and urged him to exhaust every possible option to secure US citizen Saeed Abedini’s release from Iran. According to Franks (R-AZ), "The overwhelming bipartisanship of our congressional letter to Secretary of State Kerry demonstrates the serious implications of Saeed Abedini’s case in Iran and the need for swift action by our State Department. When a U.S. citizen is unjustly detained and imprisoned—particularly in Iran, a country with no respect for rule of law or fundamental human rights—the State Department should come vigorously to his or her defense.  As Secretary Kerry assumes his new position at State Department, the Saeed Abedini case deserves his immediate and personal attention."
·        In a scathing expose, Jillian Kay Melchior uncovers the lawlessness with which unions dominate Philadelphia and cost businesses millions in labor and additional security as they wage a war of fear against the people and police in the City of Brotherly Love. In the three-part series, “Goon City,” Melchior uncovers the damage done to numerous properties in and about Philadelphia that chose not to use labor workers, often incurring expenses and beatings without any legal recourse.  National Review this week.
