·        HB 2648 referring to Colorado City’s Marshall’s Department passed out of the House Government Committee on a 9 – 0. Mohave Board of Supervisor Buster Johnson testified in support of the bill, along with Andy Swann of the Attorney General’s office. At the conclusion of the hearing, Johnson said “Never in my wildest imagination did I foresee the need for a bill to address this issue”.  A bill similar to this one was introduced last year and failed on the House floor. Johnson stated “This bill is not “special” legislation or unconstitutional as was erroneously claimed last session. This bill applies to all law enforcement in Arizona” Buster Johnson
·        The Phoenix City Council awarded a domestic violence services contract to the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence (AZCADV), effective March 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.  The contract, administered by the city’s Human Services Department, provides $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds and General Funds to bring service providers and organizations together to combat domestic violence.  domestic violence

·        Ray Spitzer is urging AZ residents to write letters to the CEO’s of Republic advertisers, informing them that they will not do business with a company that advertises in the “propaganda tool of the leftists.” 
“What is important is that these advertisers realize that Arizonans in large numbers are fed up with this leftist rag and they are going to pay a price for giving them money,” Spitzer emphasized in a recent e-mail. ·        Feb 22 Is The Last Day For Bills To Be Heard In Their Assigned Committees. The next stop for bills that have passed out of their assigned committees is the Rules Committee. From there, they go to the full House or Senate for hearings and votes before being sent over to the other chamber. ·        Rep Heather Carter has received the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society's annual Copper Shield Award - given to an outstanding Legislator for service in support of our military, veterans and their families.   Rep. Carter was nominated by the Association of the U.S. Navy's Phoenix Saguaro Chapter for her work on legislation that extended veterans hiring preference benefits to all members of the Reserve and National Guard, along with her work for other legislation to extend college tuition and other benefits to returning veterans.
"She worked tirelessly with AUSN to get this bill and others all the way to the Governor's desk and into law," said Jon Altmann, AUSN National Vice President-Membership and a Phoenix chapter officer.  "She stood head and shoulders above many this past year in helping us with a bill that helps both Arizona veterans, but is helping our AUSN Congressional liaison achieve equity via Federal legislation, with Arizona the first state to pass a bill on this issue," Altmann said. Altman is also a north Phoenix GOP activitist.
Carter is the first female legislator to receive the Copper Shield.  She is a clinical associate professor of education at Arizona State University, where she has done extensive work with the Troops to Teachers program.  The award is presented by the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society with nomination form the United Arizona Veterans, a veterans service organization that is an umbrella group representing more than 40 Arizona veterans groups.
Col Martha McSally, USAF (Ret.), the first woman fighter pilot to fly combat over Iraq during Operation Southern Watch was the MC for the awards ceremony. In 2004, McSally made history by commanding the 354th Fighter Squadron deployed to Afghanistan in OEF.
