• The Arizona House Appropriations Committee will hear testimony from Gov. Jan Brewer’s office at 2 pm, March 20, as part of her push to expand Medicaid (AHCCCS) under ObamaCare. There is also a chance that the Medicaid expansion bill could be fast-tracked into the Appropriations Committee in time for Wednesday's hearing, according to Arizona Director Americans for Prosperity Tom Jenney.  The Appropriations Committee has the power to amend the Medicaid expansion bill to include a Prop 108 clause, which would require a two-thirds vote to pass the provider tax increase (mainly, hospital bed taxes) that would fund Arizona's portion of the expansion.  (To learn more about how the proposed Medicaid expansion would hurt the people proponents claims to want to help, click here.)

·        Arizona Corporation Commissioner Susan Bitter Smith reports: All members of the Commission today voted to support Arizona's ratepayers by moving forward to file an amicus brief in the State's appeal of the EPA's regional haze rules and to file comments in the EPA's pending review of the Navajo Generating Station's regional haze rules. A good thing for our state's water and energy future.
·        Similar report from AZ Corporation Commissioner Bob Stump:  The Commission voted today to file an Amicus Brief to support the entities challenging an out-of-control EPA that is putting Arizona ratepayers at risk. The EPA is not balancing environmental stewardship with the economic realities faced by Arizonans. Instead, by blithely disregarding the input of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and Arizona stakeholders, the EPA is on a path to damaging severely Arizona's economy. The Commission will not stand by idly as the federal government puts our state's economy at risk.
·        Bob Stump:  “Arizona's securities statutes were flagrantly, and repeatedly, violated in the Radical Bunny case, and the Commission today ordered its former managers to pay $189 million in restitution. The Commission's actions today demonstrated zero tolerance for this sort of behavior in Arizona. The message should be heard loudly and clearly: If you commit securities fraud, this Commission will hold you to account.”

·        National Federation Of Republican Women Calls For President To Reinstate White House Tours: Adopts Resolutions On Immigration Reform, Religious Freedom ARLINGTON, Va. – Republican women leaders from across the nation unanimously adopted a resolution on March 9 urging President Barack Obama to immediately reopen the White House for public tours. The group, including, AZ Federation of Republican Women President Mary Williams, and AzFRW Historian Barbara McMullen, were gathered for the National Federation of Republican Women’s spring board meeting.
“President Obama clearly is not serious about solving our spending and budgetary problems,” NFRW President Rae Lynne Chornenky says. “The NFRW is appalled that he is denying schoolchildren and other Americans access to the ‘people’s house’ in an effort to score political points on the sequester. Fortunately, the public can see through this charade.”
Board meeting attendees also adopted resolutions supporting the Hobby Lobby court case on constitutional religious freedom, as well as immigration reform that includes a plan to secure the U.S. border, create a viable guest worker program, and provide a path to legal residency or citizenship for minors brought to this country illegally.
They participated in a number of other activities and heard from several speakers – including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, CNN political commentator Alex Castellanos, and conservative activist K Carl Smith – who discussed bold and innovative ideas for revitalizing the GOP in anticipation of the 2014 midterm elections.
Williams and McMullen called upon Senator Jeff Flake and Congressman Matt Salmon, and Trent Franks dropped by later to speak with the gathering.
Founded in 1938, the NFRW has thousands of active members in local clubs across the nation and in several U.S. territories, making it one of the largest women’s political organizations in the country. The grassroots organization works to promote the principles and objectives of the Republican Party, elect Republican candidates, inform the public through political education and activity, and increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government.
