3-21-13 MCRC Briefs

March 20, 2013
·        Dear Representative Kavanagh: I Have Been Reflecting On The Events and comments I made yesterday in your Wednesday, March 20, 2013, Arizona House Appropriations Committee Hearing. I want to apologize to you, your committee members and the Governor concerning my closing comment about Governor Brewer.
The Governor’s Obamacare Medicaid Expansion proposal is a terrible expansion of federal government control over our lives. Less government in our lives is important to ALL citizens throughout our state, across America, and personally to me.  To quote Ronald Reagan, “One of the traditional methods of imposing socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project.”
Because of the proposed Medicaid Expansion, Common Core Implementation etc., I have spent countless hours over the last two weeks considering our Constitution, our Founders, our Republican Party, and the more than two centuries of constant battles fought on behalf of freedom.  Governor Brewer escalated the rhetoric when she said “I don’t want dead people in the streets.”  Yesterday, I reacted with sincere and passionate opposition to the Governor’s Obamacare Medicaid Expansion proposal. My intentions were not to offend anyone, but to clearly sound a warning about the consequences of approving this future unsustainable burden on taxpayers.
I am a conservative in the mold of Barry Goldwater, who said, “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.”  Rhetoric can sometimes become overheated,
but it was not my intention to disrespect Jan Brewer or the Office of the Governor of Arizona.  My responsibility is to remain faithful to my Oath of Office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
I hope Arizonans can find true conservative common ground to solve the problems facing our citizens. The parameters of this proposal will not enable that conclusion. Respectfully yours,   -- A. J. LaFaro, Chairman, Maricopa County Republican Committee

·        Condolences to Maricopa County Republican Second Vice Chairman Jose Borrajero on the passing on his wife Judy who was well-known for her precinct work in the north valley. Borrajero said, “During the 35 years that we were together, Judy's presence, while not always obvious, has manifested itself in just about everything I have done.
Ron Ludders, Chairman of the Arizona Project commented, “ …our dear friend Judy Borrajero, wife of an outstanding Patriot Jose Borrajero, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. It was her wish to “go quietly, without fuss, funerals, or memorials”. She wanted to be cremated and left instructions for the scattering of her ashes. Judy, a lifelong supporter of conservative principles, was secretary of her legislative district for many years and an active member of the Tea Party movement until she fell ill with cancer. She will be greatly missed by us all.  Our condolences go out to Jose and family members.”

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano didn’t announce this new policy to the news and Americans. ·        HB 2455 is the AzCDL-requested bill that would clarify that firearms voluntarily surrendered to a state or local entity cannot be destroyed and must be sold. On March 20, HB 2455 passed out of the Senate Committee on Public Safety by a 4 to 1 vote with two committee members not voting. From here, it moves on to the Senate Rules committee. After that, it must survive debate in the Senate Committee of the Whole (COW), then a formal Third Read vote. If it is not amended in the Senate, it then advances to the Governor. If it is amended, it must go back to the House of Representatives first for action on the Senate amendments. These alerts are a project of the Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL), an all volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan grassroots organization.
