·        Gov Jan Brewer - Mourning the Loss of Navy SEAL Brett D. Shadle: “Arizona grieves today for an American hero who has lost his life in service to this country. Special Warfare Operator Chief Brett D. Shadle, a member of Navy SEAL Team 6, was killed Thursday during a parachute training exercise in southern Arizona when he and another SEAL collided in midair. The second SEAL, who remains unidentified, reportedly is hospitalized in stable condition.
“Chief Shadle, 31, was highly-decorated and had served this country during deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. His death illustrates once again the daily risks our service members face at home and abroad, whether in combat or training. I ask that Arizonans join me in praying for Chief Shadle’s friends, family and fellow service members, including the second SEAL injured during Thursday’s tragic accident.
“In honor of Special Warfare Operator Chief Brett D. Shadle, I have ordered that flags at all State buildings be flown at half-staff until sunset today, March 30, 2013.
·        Congressman Paul Gosar: This week, I introduced the Catastrophic Wildfire Prevention Act of 2013 to put people back to work in our national forests, restore the environment and improve public safety. This legislation allows the Forest Service to partner with State Foresters to treat national forest land.
By cutting bureaucratic red-tape and streamlining the review process, this bill ensures that projects can move forward quickly when the public is at-risk. As we anticipate another dangerous fire season, with minor fires in Northern Arizona and Colorado already taking place, Congress must act now. To read more click

·        Dear Elected Representative of Arizona: When you passed HB 2425 you allowed for the legitimization of PARCC by the State Board of Education, a board comprised of just one Elected Representative.  The following article about PARCC is worthy of your consideration and reflection and, just perhaps, your reconsideration of allowing the Governor, the P-20, the Arizona Ready and the State Board of Education to run unrestrained through our public education system.  By gutting Title 15 as you have done, you have opened "Pandora's Box" and allowed for a new NGO to dictate just what our children are taught and how they will be so instructed.  Please give this issue further consideration. - Wesley W. Harris  602-432-2871 (C); or
·        The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) today announced the formation of a new non-profit organization to oversee the development of its next generation assessments. To date, PARCC has been a consortium of states with no legal status; under its new non-profit status, PARCC will become its own legal entity as a 501(c)(3). Launching the non-profit is the first step in the process to ensuring the PARCC assessment system can be sustained in the long term and beyond the U.S. Department of Education's Race to the Top Assessment grant period which ends in September 2014.
