·        LD22: Due To Their Ineffective Nature And The Serious Dangers They Present To The Republic, Universal Background Checks for purchase of firearms are emphatically opposed by the Republicans of LD22. Furthermore, we the Precinct Committeemen of LD22 beseech the United State Senators from Arizona, John McCain and Jeff Flake, to reverse their apparent direction and uphold their oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States by voting against any legislation to enable Universal Background Checks. the resolution passed unanimously in regular meeting, April 15th, 2013 by the LD22 Republican Committee. - Eric Morgan, Chairman, Arizona Republican Party, Legislative District 22.
Whereas Republicans recognize that any infringement on the right to keep and bear arms shall require an amendment to the Constitution of the United States; and
Whereas Republicans recognize that the primary function of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is to stand as a deterrent to tyranny; and
Whereas, universal background checks are more of a deterrent to law abiding citizens than to criminals and mentally ill, and requiring such will potentially reduce overall firearm ownership in America and weaken our system's hedge against tyranny; and
Whereas, a cursory background check performed by a clerk does not constitute full due process of law, and denial of a citizen's Second Amendment Right without due process is a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States; and
Whereas universal background checks cannot prevent, with certainty, those with evil intent from obtaining firearms; and
Whereas, Republicans believe in order for legislation to be just, it must accomplish it's statedgoal; therefore, be it
Resolved that the Precinct Committeemen of the Legislative District 22 Republican Committee recognize the dangers and ineffective nature of requiring universal background checks for firearm purchases; and be it further
Resolved that the Precinct Committeemen of the Legislative District 22 Republican Committee demand that Senator John McCain and Senator Jeff Flake uphold their oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States by not only voting against but also advocating opposition to the universal background check legislation being considered in the United States Senate, and any pending or future legislation infringing on the right to keep and bear arms.

·        Franks Resolution Deems Obamacare Unconstitutional Under Origination Clause: After introducing H.Res. 153, a resolution deeming Obamacare unconstitutional on the grounds that it violates the Origination Clause of the U.S. Constitution, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-08), Chairman of the Constitution and Civil Justice Subcommittee, today released the following statement: "This is a basic Constitutional matter. Last June, the United States Supreme Court upheld Obamacare on the grounds that it is a federal tax, not a mandate. As such, it is subject to Article 1, Section 7, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution, known as the Origination Clause. It states, 'All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives.' Obamacare, as a tax that originated in the Senate is, quite simply, unconstitutional."

·        Letter To Editor: Seeing The Almost Endless Screeds About Banning Assault Weapons cries out for some common sense.  Assault is an act, not a thing.  You can assault someone using just about anything.  If you take a kitchen knife and stab someone, you have committed an assault; the knife in and of itself is not an assault weapon.  You can assault one or more people using a car, a tractor, a baseball bat, a tire iron, a butter knife, your fists, a pencil, a ballpoint pen, a golf club, a shovel, and the list goes on for a long time.  Should we ban all of them as assault weapons?
It's what someone does with a thing that could make it an assault.  A handgun or rifle is a thing, it is not an assault thing.  But in their zeal to try and disarm citizens, some would try and make you believe that some particular gun is an assault weapon because of the way it looks.  That's just stupid.  I've seen pellet guns that look like a Russian AK-47.  How about a water gun that looks like an AR-15?  Do you see how silly that notion is when it comes to weapons?  Cosmetic appearance of a thing is no justification for banning it.  It's people who decide to take a thing and assault one or more people with it that is the problem, not the thing itself.
When I read about elected representatives trying to tell us how smart they are when it comes to banning this or that thing, a gun, they display their total ignorance about guns of any kind, and the lack of understanding of the English language. – Author, veteran and past LD9 Chairman Ray Spitzer.
