·        Congressman Matt Salmon, Chairman of the subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs (AZ-05) and Ranking Member Albio Sires (NJ-08) issued this joint statement regarding the most recent election results in Venezuela. “In the spirit of democratic values held throughout most of the Western Hemisphere, and given reports of irregularities during the Venezuelan presidential elections on Sunday, we join the Obama Administration’s call for an audit and recount of the election results.  The questions surrounding the outcome have the potential to destabilize the Venezuelan government, while calling into question the region’s commitment to democracy and rule of law.”
·        Today, House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee On Western Hemisphere Chairman Matt Salmon (AZ-05), along with House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Doc Hastings (WA-04) and Rep. Jeff Duncan (SC-03) introduced H.R. 1613 the Outer Continental Shelf Transboundary Hydrocarbon Agreements Authorization Act, a bill that approves and implements the Transboundary Hydrocarbons Agreement (TBHA) originally signed with Mexico in February 2012 by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Mexican Foreign Minister Castellano at the G-20 summit in Los Cabos. This agreement directs the development of oil and gas reservoirs that cross the international maritime boundary between these two countries in the Gulf of Mexico.
“Approval and implementation of this agreement is unquestionably in the national interests of the U.S as a step towards energy security and job creation in the United States, as well as much needed energy reform in Mexico, and Western Hemisphere energy independence. We can achieve energy independence and better energy cooperation with our neighbor and this is an important step in that direction,” said Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere Chairman Matt Salmon (AZ-05).  The bill text is available here.
·        Congressman Matt Salmon Penned On Op-Ed In Investor’s Business Daily detailing the need for action on a variety of energy initiatives in the Western Hemisphere, including the Transboundary Hydrocarbons Agreement (TBHA). You can read his op-ed here.

·        Update-On-Fast-And-Furious  Sentencing:   Terry's cousin, Robert Heyer, said the family still sees a lack of accountability among government officials who conducted Operation Fast and Furious or allowed it to go on despite the operation's allowing up to 2,000 weapons into the hands of cross-border criminals. "We're keeping our fingers crossed," Heyer said. "The Congressional Oversight and Government Reform Committee investigation and the Justice Department inspector general have clearly determined who is responsible within the DOJ, who bears responsibility in the ATF and the USA's office." Most have not been disciplined, he noted.
