·       Common-Core-Flak-May-Spur-Changes   Schools chief: Keep standards, ditch name:  Arizona’s Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal wants to take the politics out of the Arizona Common Core Standards without loosening any requirements of the state’s tough new academic program. On Tuesday,  Huppenthal said the term “Common Core” has become so politically charged it has become nearly impossible to explain the state’s new academic standards to parents and voters.
·       Superintendent Of Public Instruction Candidate Diane Douglas, at a speaking engagement in front of the Ahwatukee Tea Party, rebuked the position taken by the Supt of Public Instruction John Huppenthal on Sept 17 at the Rodel Foundation. Huppenthal proposed changing the name of Common Core and severing “formal” ties to the Common Core organizations. “A rose by any other name smells the same. In that vein, Common Core by any other name is still Rotten to the Core.” said Douglas, former president of the Peoria District Governing Board. “Arizona students remain at risk while the highest elected Arizona education official is trying to fool the public instead of advocating real and meaningful solutions. It is irrational that students will somehow benefit by severing the ‘formal ties’ while continuing to use the materials produced by Common Core’s creator, Achieve, Inc.”
Douglas stressed “Parents, teachers and students have been promised reform by state and federal officials since the late 1980’s - America 2000 (G H Bush); Goals 2000 & School to Work (Clinton); No Child Left Behind (G W Bush); and now the Obama/Duncan Common Core all promised reform, but instead resulted in a steady decline of student achievement scores.”

·        RNC Chairman Reince Priebus And Co-Chairman Sharon Day released the following message on POW/MIA Recognition Day: “On this day, we pause to remember and pay tribute to those brave Americans who did not come home from combat, and those who suffered as prisoners of war,” said Chairman Priebus. A black and white flag flies over the United States Capitol as a symbol of our commitment to bring these brave Americans home. Our thoughts are also with the families of the missing. We pray they find peace and that their loved ones have a speedy and safe return home. We are eternally grateful for the men and women who protect our nation and defend our freedoms,” said Co-Chair Day. “Today and every day, our veterans and armed forces deserve our deepest appreciation. They are our heroes, and they are never forgotten.”
·        Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus Announced the RNC raised $6.8 million in August 2013, bringing the committee’s cash on hand total to $12.5 million. As the RNC implements an unprecedented field operation to benefit Republicans up and down the ballot, strong encouragement from all levels of donors continues to bring fresh momentum to the Party. “The RNC is engaging with voters in the field earlier than ever and working to hold Democrats up and down the ballot accountable for their misguided agenda,” said Priebus. “We already have more staff on the ground than in headquarters and are continuing to build out our data and digital teams. It’s imperative that we keep building a permanent, nationwide campaign to provide our candidates with the necessary tools and resources to achieve success.
“As we work toward our goal of growing our party and earning voters’ trust, we are extremely grateful for the support of grassroots and major donors alike. We’re doing things that have never been done before, and there’s enthusiasm across the country for charting a path to victory in 2013, 2014, 2016, and beyond.”
