9-25-13 MCRC Briefs

Maricopa County Republican Briefs
Sept 25, 2013
·       John McCain Appeases     After twenty-four hours of Ted Cruz acting like a man -- a man who sees his country on the brink of expiring -- the Democrats have pulled the Senate floor out from under him. And as has become the custom, they have been aided in their bullying by Senator John McCain.
·       Meltdown-GOP-Bosses-Phones-Unplugged   It was the same story with the man who was the face of the GOP in the 2008 elections, former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. His phone was off the hook, too. Callers got a message stating his voicemail box was full. The Arizona senator apparently had other matters on his mind during the Cruz speech, tweeting, “Final episode of #Broadchurch tonight – one of the most entertaining shows on TV right now.” That prompted conservative commentator Michelle Malkin to tweet, “Meanwhile, McCain is tweeting about a TV show. See the problem here, America?”

·       The CAF's Airbase Arizona Aviation Museum (formerly CAF Arizona Wing) at Falcon Field in Mesa, is teaming with the Arizona Secretary of State's Office, the Arizona Historical Society, Phoenix Rotary 100  and the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Committee to raise funds and public awareness about the new Arizona World War II Memorial and to raise funds and the new World War II Exhibit in the State Capitol Museum through donations to the Guns to Salute the Fallen Project.
Announced by Secretary of State Ken Bennett in 2011, the Guns to Salute the Fallen Project was established to attract private (non-taxpayer) funding for the state's acquisition of one 14-inch gun from the battleship U.S.S. Arizona (sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941) and one 16-inch gun from the battleship U.S.S. Missouri (upon whose decks the Japanese signed the instrument of surrender in Tokyo Bay, Japan  on September 2, 1945, bringing World War II to a close).  Both historic pieces will become an integral part of Arizona's new World War II Memorial, presently under construction in Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza and scheduled for dedication on Dec 7, 2013, as a part of the 2013 Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day observance in Phoenix.
·       Phoenix Rotary 100 Is Sponsoring A Drawing for which the CAF's Airbase Arizona has agreed to provide eight living history flight experiences aboard its fully-restored Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress  Sentimental Journey based at Falcon Field.  Sentimental Journey is one of nearly 13,000 aircraft of its type flown in combat in World War II that still exist today in pristine flying condition.  Sept 11 through November 30, contributors who donate to the Guns to Salute the Fallen Project at in multiples of $20 (six chances for $100) will be eligible to participate in a drawing for one of these eight flights.  Two grand prize winners will be picked for flights in the nose compartment of the aircraft, where the bombardier and navigator sat during missions.  The eight winners will be drawn and announced at the conclusion of the Memorial's Dedication Ceremony on Dec 7, 2013.  Sentimental Journey will be performing a flyover at the Dedication Ceremony, where over a thousand or more spectators are expected to participate.
·       Contribute To The Guns To Salute The Fallen Project on-line at  Proceeds benefit the World War II Memorial and the new World War II Exhibit under development in the Arizona Capitol Museum. The CAF's Airbase Arizona Aviation Museum is operated by Airbase Arizona of the Commemorative Air Force.  Organized in 1978 as the Arizona chapter of the Commemorative Air Force, the Airbase's mission is to restore and preserve historically important aircraft and related memorabilia in order to educate the public about the significant contributions made by men and women in the defense of the Nation.
