·       John-McCain-Considering-Running-Again-For-US-Senate

·       McCain-Issues-Threat-To-Arizonans-Considering-2016-Run  Sen. John McCain appeared on the Barry Young Show announcing that he is considering another Senate run in 2016. The senior senator will be 80-years-old by that time and apparently, he has a pressing need to remain relevant – at least in his own mind. A section of McCain’s interview from Young’s show on KFYI can be heard in the following link:  Sen. McCain on Barry Young Show  The REAL McCain confronted by REAL constituents Interesting to note that in some news circles, there is speculation that if McCain runs in 2016, he will be targeted by tea party groups.

·       Congressman Matt Salmon (R-Az)  and Congressman Scott Peters (D-CA)  have launched the Congressional Algae Caucus, an effort to provide a forum for Members of Congress and their staffs to learn about and interact with the nascent algae industry.“Algae-based products deserve a chance to compete on a level playing field with other technologies,” said Salmon. “In my own state we are already seeing the economic development that is possible from a thriving algae sector, from jobs to research and development.  High tech jobs will help grow our economy and through this caucus, I hope to draw attention to the great economic and environmental benefits of algae production.” – Salmon and Peter co-chair the caucus committee.   Information:

This forum is aimed at explaining the FDC process for new claims only – VA representatives and VSOs will not be able to answer questions regarding existing claims. Additional forums will be held in the coming weeks in Prescott, Cottonwood, Flagstaff and Payson. Contact:  (602) 952-2410 McCain’s Phx office.

·       Parking Lot Gatherings And Internet Chatter are sometimes more interesting than the formal meetings. CD1 candidates Adam Kwasman, Andy Tobin and Gary Keihne were the reported topic of chatter following a recent conservative forum. Campaign rhetoric doesn’t erase Tobin and Kwasman’s legislative passage expanding ‘Obamacare’ with many voters. Kwasman enlisting ‘expand Medicaid’ legislators TJ Shope and Ethan Orr, as his campaign managers drew lively commentary as well.  Of course, Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake were ‘villians’ on various issues as well.

·       The JLBC Staff Reports Monthly To The Legislature On The Status Of General Fund Revenue collections and other fiscal issues. This report can be found on the following link:   Among the key points of the document:

1.     September General Fund revenues increased by 2.4% compared to the prior year, but were $(25.1) million below the enacted budget forecast. This lower than expected revenue growth was largely due to a significant amount of Corporate Income Tax refunds processed in early September. Year-to-date, FY 2014 revenues are 3.8% above FY 2013 and are $(17.4) million below the enacted budget forecast.

2. As for the good news, sales tax collections were 6.7% above September 2012 and $4.8 million above the monthly forecast. For the first quarter of the fiscal year, sales tax revenues are 7.0% above the prior year and $13.1 million above forecast.

3. The state’s fiscal health can also be measured by the operating fund balance. The state pays its bills out of the operating fund balance, which consists of the General Fund and certain dedicated funds. The operating balance as of mid-October 2013 is $1.8 billion. In addition, the state’s Budget Stabilization Fund has a balance of $454.4 million.

4. Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF) revenues consist of gasoline and use fuel (diesel) tax, motor carrier fees (commercial carriers), vehicle license tax and registration fees, and various other fees. HURF collections of $102.8 million in September were up $2.5 million, or 2.5%, compared to September of last year. Year-to-date revenues are 2.6% above collections in the prior year, and are $4.9 million above the budget forecast.

5. Our next legislative session does not begin until January 13. However, activity at the Capitol is beginning to pick up as members begin working on bills for 2014.  - Sen John McComish, Rep Bob Robson and Rep Jeff Dial.

·       A Recent Poll Commissioned By The Arizona Republican Party, shows that while many voters are frustrated with Washington politics, voters in our state still look to Republicans to lead on the issues and will be looking to vote Republican in 2014. Republicans currently hold every statewide office and have majorities in the both the State Senate and House of Representatives. "There is a lot of voter frustration with the divided government we have in Washington, and the impact it's having here in Arizona," said Robert Graham, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party.  "But what we're hearing from voters is that they are looking to Republicans to maintain a united state government, because the GOP has a good track on everyone's top issue: creating jobs and growing our economy."

The poll shows 43% of voters would support a Republican candidate for governor while only 37% would support a Democrat.  Additionally, the survey showed that voters are 70% less likely to vote for a lobbyist. "The Democrats have two problems: voters don't trust them on economic issues and their only candidate for governor is a lobbyist," said Graham. "The Republican candidates for governor reflect a lot of business and job-creation experience, and voters are telling us that Republicans overall have the ability to address their top concern: job creation."

The survey pool reflects Arizona's electoral landscape, where Republicans hold a five percent voter registration advantage and an eight percent turnout advantage. Magellan Strategies conducted the survey on Oct 14 and 15.
