·       Something To Consider – National Committeeman Bruce Ash (AZ):  Soon after the President left for his own extravagant Hawaiian Christmas vacation he suddenly realized Federal long term unemployment benefits were going to expire and he demanded ( as he usually does ) that Congress act immediately to extend the program at a reported cost of of nearly $25 billion per year. Never mind that Congress just passed and the President signed a "Compromise" budget bill the week before which specifically excluded an extension of benefits. The senate is expected to take up the matter shortly and the Republican house is willing to have a discussion so long as there is a way to pay for the program. Liberal groups such as the national employment law project say that extending long term unemployment benefits would "help keep the economic engine turning." What a load of mularky.  Extending unemployment benefits only takes pressure off  the President for his miserable efforts to reduce joblessness and helps create a larger permanent dependent class in America. The President's policies are hurting the most vulnerable in the economy -- especially those Americans he promised hope and change for in the last two national elections. The President would be wise to finally consider free market principles to create new American jobs and loosen the negative Federal grip on our economy which he has created. Americans want to work. With the labor participation levels at a decades low levels with 5,000,000 having left the workforce since 2009 isn't it time for the Obama administration get serious about the economy rather than handing out rain checks to Americans who desperately want to work again?

·       The Ambulance Medical Service Transportation Study Committee, chaired by Rep. Michelle Ugenti, R-Scottsdale, adopted recommendations for legislation to increase transparency and efficiency in the process for awarding a certificate of necessity (CON) to provide emergency medical transportation services in Arizona. CONs are awarded by the Department of Health Services and are required to operate an ambulance service in Arizona. During the four hearings the committee held, members learned that ambulance providers receive mileage reimbursement ranging from $9.32 to $22.00 per mile and, in addition, receive a reimbursement for the transport of a patient from as low as $469.35 per transport to as high as $2,051.30 per transport. Testimony also revealed that the time frame to process an application for a CON is 450 days - longer in some cases - and that Arizona taxpayers paid $82 million for Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) patient transports in 2012. Total AHCCCS reimbursements (state and federal monies) account for approximately 25 percent of all ambulance revenues. As a result, the Committee adopted several recommendations including; reducing the time period to process an application, requiring audited financial statements from a CON applicant and extending the length of time an emergency CON is valid. The committee also recommended that there be greater public input in the evaluation of an application and for public input to occur earlier in the process.
