2-5-13 MCRC Briefs

Feb 5, 2013
·        The Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) Monthly Board And Executive Guidance Council (EGC) meetings are scheduled for Thursday, Feb 7 at 6:30 pm and 7pm respectively.
Ø  The MCRC Monthly Board Meeting is always held in closed Executive Session. The Feb 7 MCRC EGC meeting will also be held in closed executive session due to the confidential nature of the brainstorming and working session to develop the MCRC's Two Year Strategic Plan and Budget.  Only the members of the MCRC EGC will be authorized to attend - LD Chairmen, Executive Committee, Members-At-Large, and Non-Voting Members Frosty Taylor (Communications) & Diana Duran (West Valley Office Manager).
Ø  All future meetings, that aren't held in closed Executive Session, will only be open to members of the MCRC EGC, verified registered Precinct Committeemen, verified registered Arizona Republicans, and authorized scheduled speakers.  MCRC Chairman A J LaFaro.

·        Robert Graham, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, is forming a committee of to plan for Arizona's next redistricting process in 2020. "Arizona's political landscape today reflects a flawed process where election districts were drawn up based on a one-sided political agenda and too much secrecy, and I'm taking action now to make sure that doesn't happen again," said Graham.  "We are looking for an honest and open process that doesn't favor one group of voters over another -- one that is truly bipartisan and treats voters equally while putting an end to the discrimination against Republicans."
Graham is asking those interested in serving on the committee to contact the Arizona Republican Party at 602-957-7770 to apply for membership on the committee, with a deadline of Feb 28.  The committee will have nine members, one from each of Arizona's congressional districts.
The redistricting process in Arizona occurs each decade after the US Census population counts are completed and is based on the requirements in the U.S. Constitution.  The borders of Arizona's 30 legislative and nine congressional districts were drawn in 2010 by the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, but the election results clearly prove the lines favored the Democrat candidates for Congress.

·        Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne has filed a petition for review with the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals challenging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) plan to impose new haze restrictions. The appeal was filed at the request of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), which had submitted a proposed air quality plan to the EPA in February 2011. The submitted state implementation plan showed the steps Arizona intended to take to reduce haze in protected national parks and wilderness areas. The EPA split its decision on the plan, taking action on the first part last December and imposing strict controls on nitrogen oxide emissions at three power plants. The controls are estimated to cost up to $1 billion, according to ADEQ.
The three power plants affected are the Apache Generation Station in Cochise, the    Cholla Power Plant near Joseph City and Coronado Generation Station near St. John’s.
A statement from Horne’s office said the rules would cost Arizona utilities up to $1 billion for pollution control measures “that would not affect health or be visible the human eye.
·        Concern over Drones killings American Citizens: (Written by ‘Voice of Veterans’ co-host Jack Culberson  www.vovradioshow.org) Surprisingly this article is extracted from the Huffington Post, a liberal web site and blogger over the internet. Although I agree with properly vetted and coordinated drone kills against foreign terrorists who threaten our national interests, I am highly concerned about the current administrations policy to include American citizens in that grouping. Don't misinterpret that comment. Legal actions need and must be taken against citizens who support terrorists; however, since they are American citizens their Constitutional rights cannot be disregarded or violated. Should such violations become case law then it becomes just a matter of time before our government starts targeting "select" citizens on American soil. Such action cannot be allowed and every American needs to vehemently voice their disapproval! Can you recall just a short time ago how upset the left was about the Constitutional violations of the Bush Patriot Act? Seems a mere child's play when compared to the violations we see from this current administration.
This subject brings to bear a real concern regarding the current WH appointees ( Hagel and Brennan ) for DOD and the CIA respectively. Both these men have been proponents of the overseas drone programs and we need to know their positions on the targeting of Americans on foreign soils. I have some real concerns with both the appointee candidates, irrespective of their positions on this particular issue; however, their positions regarding targeting of American citizens, both public admittance and past practice, could have an absolute no confidence vote for any appointment as head of the Defense Dept or CIA.
This is a most critical issue and, by the mere fact that it comes across the headlines in the "Huff", it shows that even the ultra left has serious concerns -- and rightfully so. Just who does this bunch in the WH administration think they are and what are we doing allowing them to step all over our Constitution? We as citizens need to wake up, alarm our congressional and judicial branches and serve notice to those government agencies who think it is their right to act without the checks and balances that are and have been the backbone of our Constitutional Republic! - Jack Culberson, Co-Host
