·        Maricopa-County-Health-Care-Chief-Big-Raise “Bick” Bicknell, former two-year chairman and current vice chairman of the Maricopa County Hospital Health Board, opposed the raise: “The Board of Directors have a fiduciary responsibility to the public that elected them. Giving a member of the Staff of MIHS a raise of over 33 % ($125.00) is ludicrous. All one can ask is that the voting public should be taking notice and contact those that voted such a raise -- me I voted against it as did Sue Gerard. It's not that the CEO didn’t deserve it it's that we cannot afford it. Just last year we laid off some members of the staff. The raise is more than most people make alone for a yearly salary, in some cases, about three times more,” said Bicknell. “I think some of the people may have the wrong idea of just what is MIHS -- Maricopa Medical Center and its 11 Family Health Centers and physic clients and dental clinics, 11 in total. They are not part of the state -they are a separate "special Health Care District" A taxable district over and above state taxes. Maricopa County contributes about $60 Million year toward keeping the Hospitals and clinics open. “I hope that helps to clarify the tax thing. I would ask please citizens of Maricopa County start to come to the formal "public meetings. I've been there now some five yrs (elected to the board in 2009) and seldom if ever do I see any one from the public there.” Bicknell, a former Aguila resident is currently a LD12 PC. He is a past vice chair of the Wickenburg Republican Club, a former New Hampshire legislator and retired NH highway patrolman
