·        Gov Jan Brewer -  DHS Release Of Illegal Aliens Threatens Public Safety- “I’m appalled to learn the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has begun to release hundreds of illegal aliens from custody, the first of potentially thousands to soon be freed under the guise of federal budget cuts. This is pure political posturing and the height of absurdity given that the releases are being granted before the federal ‘sequestration’ cuts have even gone into effect.
“This represents a return to exactly the kind of catch-and-release procedures that have long made a mockery of our country’s immigration system. The news is especially concerning when coupled with DHS’ acknowledgment today that it may not be able to maintain operation of 34,000 immigration jail beds, as mandated by Congress.
“Everyone knows the federal government must get a handle on spending, and it is well past time that the President begin working with Congress to find real budget solutions. But we cannot let public safety and the rule of law be collateral damage of the President’s failed leadership to pass a budget.”
·        Sheriff Paul Babeu Blasted The Washington Gridlock Regarding The “Sequester Budget Battle” and says it is already harming public safety in Arizona by ICE’s mass release of hundreds of illegals and plans for the release of nearly 10,000 more criminal illegals from prison.
Many of these ICE detainees are held at private facilities, which are contracted to house criminal illegals.  ICE reportedly plans to reduce their available beds to 25,700 from their current 34,000.  Babeu said, “Clearly, serious criminals are being released to the streets of our local communities by this mass budget pardon.  These are illegals that even President Obama wants to deport.  This is insane that public safety is sacrificed when it should be the budget priority that’s safeguarded.”
ICE agents were paid overtime Saturday and Sunday to release over 500 detainees in Pinal County alone.  These criminal illegals were scheduled for deportation, yet now they receive a pardon and once again become the problem of local law enforcement and a burden to the state of Arizona.  The President predicts a doomsday scenario and his plans are already being implemented.
Babeu concluded, “President Obama would never release 500 criminal illegals to the streets of his home town, yet he has no problem with releasing them in Arizona.  The safety of the public is threatened and the rule of law discarded as a political tactic in this Sequester Battle.”
·        President Obama, Speaking Today At A Meeting Of The National Governors Association, concluded his remarks by saying, “And with that, what I want to do is clear out the press so we can take some questions.”   This just a few days after he said, “This is the most transparent administration in history, and I can document that is the case.”

• Tom Jenney - Arizona Director  Americans For Prosperity  www.aztaxpayers.org reports that Feb 21, four Republican state senators joined Dems in SB 1182, a Paycheck Protection union reform bill (description below), from passing in the Arizona Senate. The following four Senators, who  joined with all of the Democratic Senators in voting No on SB 1182 can be reached :
 Sen. Rich Crandall (R-Mesa/LD16)
rcrandall@azleg.gov   602-926-3020
 Sen. Adam Driggs (R-Paradise Valley/LD28)
adriggs@azleg.gov   602-926-3016
 Sen. John McComish (R-Ahwatukee/LD 18)
jmccomish@azleg.gov   602-926-5898
 Sen. Bob Worsley (R-Mesa/LD 25)
bworsley@azleg.gov   602-926-5760
• AZ AFP Director Tom Jenney Is Asking The Voters To Contact The Two Gatekeepers In The House Rules Committee, House Speaker Andy Tobin (R-Yavapai County) and House Rules Chairman Bob Robson (R-Ahwatukee/Chandler), and encourage them to allow ALL of the union reform bills to get out of the Rules Committee so they can go to House floor to voted on. Contact Robson at brobson@azleg.gov and/or 602-926-5549 and Tobin atobin@azleg.gov and/or 602-926-5172. According to data available at the Secretary of State's website, government employee unions gave money to the Democrat and Republican parties in a ratio of 48 to 1.  Even in House legislative races, where the unions were reportedly going to go "easy" on Republicans, the ratio of support for Democrats versus Republicans was four to one. On the Senate side, the partisan spending ratio on candidates was 13 to 1. This involuntary, partisan spending by union bosses does not reflect rank-and-file workers’ political views.
Paycheck Protection  (SB 1349, SB 1142 and HB 2438)  Of the labor reforms moving in the Legislature this year, passing Paycheck Protection is the most important objective for 2013. Aside from the principled objective of protecting workers' freedom of association, the political impact of Paycheck Protection cannot be overstated. After Washington passed Paycheck Protection, teacher union PAC funds in that State shrank by 75 percent. After Utah passed the reform, teacher union political funds shrank by 90 percent. Paycheck Protection would prohibit government employers from taking money from employee's paychecks for political activities without express annual authorization.
HB 2330 - Transparency in government union negotiations .HB 2330 would protect taxpayers by requiring that union collective bargaining ("meet-and-confer") be subject to the same open meeting laws as other government meetings, including the requirement that meetings be recorded by audiovisual means.
HB 2343 - Reform abuses of government union release time - HB 2343 would protect taxpayers by prohibiting governments from giving government workers paid time off (on the taxpayer dime!) for engaging in pro-union lobbying.
