·        Coconino County Republican Chairman Joy Staveley reports that when Republicans and Tea Party members went to protest the IRS offices in Flagstaff and Prescott yesterday – both offices were closed.  “There was no reason given as to why. A few people came to Flagstaff from as far away as Lake Havasu City. It was their first protest rally ever. They traveled all that distance only to find the office closed,” according to Staveley.
·        Coconino County Republicans are pleased to announce the formation of two new TARS groups in Flagstaff. These teenagers are excited and are eager to help the Republicans in any way they can. Their immediately stated goal was to "Keep Arizona Red"! We are so grateful to have their youthful enthusiasm. These are great kids. One group of 25-30 kids are all home schooled. The other group are students at the new BASIS school in Flagstaff.

·        Thousands Heard Conservative Commentator Bill Whittle during his recent whirlwind tour of Phoenix and Tucson, according to Maricopa County Republican Chairman A J LaFaro. The nationally recognized Whittle made appearances in Tucson on May 14 and in the Phoenix metro area on May 15, including several radio interviews and a stop at the State Capitol to speak in opposition to ObamaCare and Medicaid expansion.
Whittle warned that“ObamaCare and Medicaid expansion will bankrupt states and the country.” He went on to say “Arizona shouldn’t follow in the footsteps of his home state of California and its ‘ruinous’ policies.”
Whittle further warned, “Be careful about going down a road that you cannot come back out from. Be careful about accepting this federal program that once you are in you will not get back out of. You still have a choice to make an individual decision for the citizens of Arizona, and you have a choice to look to the west at California, or you can look to the east at Texas and decide whether or not you want to go bankrupt as a society.”
LaFaro said, “Bill’s speaking tour was a tremendous success. It was a real honor and privilege to cosponsor the tour along with the Arizona Conservative Coalition, Arizona Conservative Educators and Arizona Conservative Consultants.”
Whittle is an American conservative blogger, political commentator, director, screen writer, editor, pilot, and author. He is best known for his PJ Media internet videos and short films, one of which, "Three and a Half Days", has been viewed more than 2.5 million times on YouTube. He is currently the presenter of Afterburner and The Firewall, and co-hosts Trifecta with Stephen Green and Scott Ott. Whittle’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) speech was called “The Best Speech of 2012″ by David Horowitz, who defined him as “One of the best conservative speakers of our time!”
·        The AZ Senate voted to pass House Bill 2551 on May 21 – clarifing state authority in how it will or won't enforce federal Travel Management Rules regarding off-highway vehicle use on US Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management lands. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Chester Crandell (R-Heber) and Rep. David Gowan (R-Sierra Vista), passed by a 19-10 vote and sent to Gov. Brewer for her consideration. HB 2551 previously passed the Arizona House on May 14 by a 34-25 vote. The Arizona Game and Fish Commission voted on March 20 to support HB 2551, but made its support contingent on adoption of amended language that would address the commission's concerns about unintended limitations on officers' ability to enforce resource damage laws or road closures for public safety purposes, such as during forest fires. Subsequent amendments addressed the commission's concerns. The bill permits Game and Fish officers to enforce laws related to habitat damage and other duties important to the department's mission, while giving officers discretion in enforcing federal travel management rules that are lower priority or that might impede achieving wildlife management objectives. The Arizona Game and Fish Commission has expressed long-standing concerns that the new forest Travel Management Rules exceed science-based protection of habitat, put undue constraints on reasonable public access, are inconsistent across the different forests and therefore confusing to outdoor recreationists, and impede the commission's and department's ability to meet wildlife management objectives.
·        Retired Air Froce Colonel Martha Mcsally Was Unanimously Appointed Yesterday As A Commissioner On The Pima County/Tucson Women's Commission. Created in 1975 by the City of Tucson and expanded to a joint city/county Commission in 1992, the Women's Commission was established with the mission to "expose, eliminate and prevent discrimination against women and to assist women in attaining full equality of opportunity in all aspects of life."
Pima County District 4 Supervisor Ray Carroll appointed McSally to fill a vacant District 4 post on the Commission and the board of supervisors unanimously approved the appointment. Supervisor Carroll stated: "Martha is a pioneering military hero, leader and role model for women and men. She has shown conviction and effectiveness in fighting discrimination against women throughout her 26 years in the military. She broke many glass ceilings herself and put her successful military career on the line by taking on the Pentagon over discriminatory policies against servicewomen. She is the perfect fit to serve on the Pima County/Tucson Women's Commission as another avenue to continue to lead and stand for women in our community."
McSally is excited about the opportunity to join the Commission. "I have been fighting for equal opportunity and against discrimination of women my whole life. I am passionate about ensuring women in our community are able to thrive and contribute based on their capabilities and not be held back, discriminated against, or abused due to their sex. I am honored to serve on the Women's Commission and thank Supervisor Carroll for appointing me and the board for their unanimous support."
McSally was the first woman in U.S. history to fly a fighter aircraft in combat and first ever to command a Fighter Squadron. She gained national attention in 2001-2002 when she filed a lawsuit against then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for military policies requiring only U.S. servicewomen to wear Muslim garb in Saudi Arabia. She won. Martha has advocated for the military to remove restrictions on women serving in combat and against sexual assault epidemic in the military. She has been published in Duke Law Journal, Daedalus, Christian Science Monitor, and Washington Post and appeared on multiple national news media outlets to advocate for equal opportunity and treatment of women.  Martha@MarthaMcSally.com   (520) 488-9286   www.MarthaMcSally.com
