·        Governor Jan Brewer This Week Launched Her 2013 Summer Reading List Program, a statewide initiative to promote childhood reading during the summer break. Brewer’s Reading List Program was first introduced in May 2012 as part of her administration’s ongoing mission to enhance childhood literacy. This year’s initiative has been developed through a partnership with the Arizona Science Center, with collaboration from Arizona libraries, the Arizona Department of Education and Read On Arizona.  Between now and August 31, 2013, participating students are asked to read at least four materials from the Governor’s suggested reading lists. The lists – which can be viewed at ArizonaReady.com  – are comprised of age-appropriate texts that satisfy the state’s Common Core education standards. Each includes helpful information to allow parents to see whether or not their child is reading at the appropriate age level. Upon completion of the books, parents are asked to log-on to the Arizona Ready website and verify their son or daughter has completed their list. The child will receive a congratulatory certificate from the Governor, as well as a coupon for free admission to the Arizona Science Center. To register your child for the Governor’s 2013 Summer Reading List program, visit ArizonaReady.com.
