·       So You Don’t-Like-the Republican-Party-Of John-McCain    Joe The Plumber

·       MCRC Chairman A J LaFaro: Responding To Comments Made This Week By Sen John McCain Backers regarding the passage of the county and state ‘Censure McCain Resolutions’, Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman LaFaro stated today, “Based on the responses from the diminishing number of John McCain supporters - they are either in denial, senile or lying to public again. It’s unfortunate liberal individuals like John McCain, Jon Kyl, Democrat gubernatorial candidate Fred Duval, and Duval’s campaign manager Grant Woods - who is a Republican – would use Saul Alinsky tactics to try silencing the millions of people in Arizona and America who disagree with them on the critical issues and their progressive socialist bullying tactics.  The censure and the people who support it have never used demeaning or derogatory terms or phrases like John McCain and his few public supporters.”

Background: Echoing six Republican County Committees, the AZGOP State Committeemen strongly censured Sen John McCain during their Saturday meeting in Tempe when they loudly (voice vote) approved a Resolution of Censure similar to the ones passed this month by the Maricopa, Apache, Cochise, Gila, Mohave and Santa Cruz County Republican Committees. The Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) passed a censure resolution by a 1151 to 351 vote during its annual precinct committeemen meeting held Jan 11 in Tempe. Within two weeks, the other five county committees passed similar resolutions censuring McCain for not sticking to the party platform.  Maricopa County is the largest county in the state with 3.942 million of Arizona's 6.553 million residents.  Maricopa County has 63% of Arizona's registered Republican voters, according to MCRC Chairman A. J. LaFaro.

·       Gila County Republican Party Withdraws Support to Speaker Boehner.  Coming on the heels of its recent censure of Senator John McCain, the Gila County Republican Party has sent a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner withdrawing support for him as Speaker.

·       Senator John McCain On The Principles For Immigration Reform released by House Republican leaders today: “I applaud Speaker Boehner and the GOP leadership team for proposing common sense principles the House Republican conference can agree on to reform our nation’s immigration system and strengthen security along our borders. The principles introduced today represent a positive step in the right direction. I am hopeful that the House will complete this work over the next few months. As Speaker Boehner has made clear, the House will move at its own pace and work through its own process, a prerogative I respect and support. I look forward to working with my colleagues at the appropriate time to move forward on this important issue.”

·       More Random Thoughts/Observations From The State Meeting: (Observing people is half the fun of going to a state meeting.)

ü  No one could miss Dan Grimm – the guy in the green leprechaun hat – who quietly works his backside off before and during county/state meetings.

ü  Some say that six counties and the state party censuring of Sen John McCain reflects badly on McCain and the party.

ü  Others point out he brought it on himself  with years of disregarding voters letters and phone calls; which resulted in PCs resorting to the censure passage to get his attention and hoping to get him back in line with the party platform. His disregard for grassroots Republicans with his last-minute, no public notification town hall meetings with select people didn’t set well with elected LD Chairs and PCs either.

ü  Candidate tables in the courtyard benefit the candidates - who garner lots of petition signatures… and the PCs who get a chance to chat eye ball to ball with them.  But what possesses some folks to make nasty digs about candidates to the volunteers who are manning their tables???

ü  Someone needs to tell candidates that party crashing isn’t acceptable.  Table reservations at state meetings are a must!

ü  Helen Purcell, Yvonne Reed and county recorders crew, are always there with the ballot tabulating equipment.  What would we do without those quick tally returns?

ü  Computer tech George Teegarden, the quiet fellow with a big smile who keeps the computers going, was observed picking up the trash left behind on the pews – papers, ribbons, etc. He received one of the well-deserved Chairman’s awards this year. That man deserves a pat on the back for the countless hours he puts in for the party.

ü  Some speculate that Gov Jan Brewer might have noticed the less than normally warm reception from those who haven’t forgiven her for the way she pushed her Medicaid Expansion aka Obamacare bill through last legislative session.

ü  Will the Gov try to run again? Who knows? At any rate, she remains popular in many arenas and has been a better Gov than her predecessor - former Gov Janet Napolitano, who left the state in financial shambles.

ü  National Committeeman Bruce Ash gave an update on the RNC meeting he had attended in Washington, DC last week.  National Committee woman Sharon Geise and AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham also attended the RNC meeting .

ü  Hmmm… Chatter overheard that a couple of PCs carried some 20 proxies, causing speculation as to why they apparently scoured their legislative districts for other PCs voting rights … and more specifically -  which candidate race were they hoping to sway at the ballot box??  Come on now, getting ballots for more than a handful of proxies slows down credentials processing and stuffing all those ballots into the counting machines doesn’t go unnoticed either!

ü  The four GOP Congressman – Matt Salmon, Trent Franks, Paul Gosar and David Schweikert - were in attendance in the morning, but our two GOP Senators – Sen John McCain and Jeff Flake were conspicuously absent.  Old timers were quick to point out that McCain and former Sen Jon Kyl hadn’t been at any state meetings in years.  Former State Chairman Tom Morrissey verified that McCain and Kyl hadn’t attended the two state meetings he conducted.  Others insist their absences have been far longer than that. Kyl may have attended one session during Randy Pullen’s reign as the state chair.

ü  On a far lighter note.  Miryam Gutier was cute as a button floating around in her fashionable pink sweater.

ü  Pebble Creek Republican Club leader Sue Harrison always looks like the perfect Republican lady in her red jacket and red/white/blue scarf.

ü  Diane Ortiz-Parsons was all over the place (an energizer bunny).

ü  Pat Oldroyd, so quiet and efficient, tended to her tasks.

ü  LD13 PC Karen Brogdon drives all the way from Wittman to help at the credentials tables – every year!

ü  Yes, that was ‘Hair on Fire’ talk radio show hostess Barbara Espinosa manning Randy Pullen’s candidate for State Treasurer table.

ü  Thanks to all of the volunteers who spend countless hours doing all the behind the scenes work from stuffing packets to checking credentials to picking up litter and taking down banners after the meeting.  These hardworking people are the ones who make these meeting successful! – Frosty Taylor, editor
