·       Rep. Sonny Borrelli Is Sponsoring Legislation which allows the spouse of a peace officer to request his or her personal information remain confidential. “If a criminal with a grudge against a peace officer wants to find out where that officer lives, he can look up where the officer’s spouse lives,” Borrelli said. “As much as we can, we want to give the families of peace officers the protection they deserve.”  HB 2145, sponsored by Borrelli, helps protect the families of peace officers and makes it harder for criminals who would seek to locate a peace officer, he added. In addition to keeping a home address confidential, the legislation allows a spouse to keep his or her job and job duties confidential. It also requires the spouse be notified if the confidentiality order is going to expire within six months, and contains an emergency clause so the bill will become immediately effective upon signature of the governor. HB 2145 was passed unanimously by the Public Safety, Military and Regulatory Affairs committee, passed unanimously on Third Read in the House of Representatives and has been forwarded to the Senate.  Supporters of the legistation include the Arizona Police Association, Phoenix Law Enforcement Association, Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board and Arizona Association of Counties.

·       Rep. Sonny Borrelli Is Sponsoring Legislation To Restore Funding To The State Lake Improvement Fund. “SLIF is a force multiplier,” Borrelli said. “Improvements to boat ramps and docks along our rivers and lakes directly impacts state revenues. These amenities in turn attract more out-of-state visitors.”  Lake Havasu, which is located in Rep. Borrelli’s district, accommodates more than 300,000 boats every year, which in turn provides 50 percent of SLIF’s revenues. As Arizona’s economy rebounds and out-of-state visitors return to Lake Havasu for spring break and other holidays, the city would like to make improvements like pagodas and walking trails along the beach areas of the lake.  HB 2149 passed the House Agriculture and Water Committee Tuesday, Feb. 11. The legislation is supported by the County Supervisors Association of Arizona, Arizona Association of Counties, and League of Arizona Cities & Towns among others. ·       CD2 Candidate Martha McSally Is Urging Congressman Ron Barber (D) to withdraw a PLA on the new tower for the Tucson Airport. In late January, the Tucson Airport Authority announced a 20-year lease with the Federal Aviation Administration for airport property to be used for a new tower. The airport tower will cost approximately $43 million and replace a 1950's structure. Ground breaking is set for March 2014. On February 2nd, the Democrats in the Arizona Delegation, led by Congressman Ron Barber, signed a letter to the FAA asking them to reconsider and institute a PLA on contractors working on the tower project.

McSally, a retired military pilot, said, "Congressman Barber is now playing Washington games with our own local project. He is threatening to slow-down a needed local project so that he can reward his contributors. This may be how things are done in Washington, but it's not how we do things in Southern Arizona. We finally have a chance to build something in this community and it may be held up by political games by our own Congressman. Its senseless and it's the type of thing that most Arizonans are tired of. Ron Barber is a part of the problem. I hope he will withdraw his letter and make sure that this project gets done on time."   520-488-4610

·       Rep. Sonny Borrelli Is Sponsoring Legislation That Gives County Detention Officers throughout the state the authority to arrest a prisoner who is about to be released, if there are outstanding arrest warrants for the prisoner. “This bill cuts the bureaucratic red tape that is allowing prisoners with outstanding warrants to walk free,” Borrelli said. “It streamlines the process so a detention officer can detain a prisoner for arrest if necessary.” HB 2002, sponsored by Rep. Borrelli, grants detention officers the power to arrest a prisoner on an outstanding arrest warrant if the person is already in the custody of a jail facility. It also expands to detention officers acting in their official capacity a defense to the crime of unlawful imprisonment. Peace officers are already exempt from the punishment of unlawful imprisonment if they are detaining a person. Detention officers would also not be held responsible for unlawful imprisonment if they are arresting a person as outlined in HB 2002. HB 2002 was passed unanimously by the Public Safety, Military and Regulatory Affairs committee, and passed on Third Read in the House of Representatives 57 – 2. The bill now awaits a hearing in the Senate. The legislation is supported by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, and the Arizona Association Of Counties.

·       Barber, Kirkpatrick, Sinema Supported Obamacare, Now Want to Delay Effects Until After Reelection. Robert Graham, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, called out three Arizona Democrats in Congress for their efforts to blatantly postpone full Obamacare implementation until after their reelection. The three signed a letter to President Obama last week asking for delays until 2015 — after the November elections later this year in which all three Democrats are at very high risk of losing their seats to Republican challengers.“These three cowards are afraid to admit they supported this faulty legislation, and now they want to run and hide their mistakes from voters," said Arizona Republican Party Chairman Robert Graham. “You can’t fix the fundamental flaws of Obamacare — it would be like treating the symptoms instead of the disease — and the self-serving tactics of these liberal Democrats shirking their responsibility for this disaster is something voters deserve to hear about before they vote in November." Graham noted the three are following the national trend of congressional Democrats, who as a party gambled heavily on the Obamacare passage and are suffering the consequences of the now-failed implementation. Many of those House Democrats lost their seats in 2010, and in 2014 the full force of the Obamacare train wreck will motivate voters to replace them with Republicans.“Arizona voters are in a unique position with these three competitive seats to voice their firm opposition to Obamacare by sending Republicans to Congress who will fight for taxpayers, small businesses, and families looking forward to a more prosperous future,” Graham added.
