Sometimes described as ‘brash, opinionated and unafraid of offending,’ he believes his combative defense of conservatism is needed to define what his party stands for. ‘I will always speak out, I will always be vocal for the things I believe in,’ he said in an interview in the Capitol museum. ‘I’m not advancing my agenda – I firmly believe that I’m advancing the conservative grass-roots agenda.’ LaFaro says he’ll use his two years as head of the party to bridge the ‘real, real divide’ among conservatives, moderates, tea partyers and Libertarians-leaning Republicans. Prepare your questions and be ready for a lively program!!”

·       San Tan Valley, AZ: Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. presented World War II veteran Jack D. Shippey with his lost dog tags. Shippey had donated his dog tags, among other items, to the museum at the Air Force’s Non Commissioned Officers school in 1981. But, when the museum moved locations, his dog tags were lost. After eight years of searching for the missing dog tags to no avail, the Shippey family contacted Gosar's office for help. Gosar's staff worked with the museum curator to locate and acquire  Shippey's dog tags.
Gosar said: "It was a privilege to give Mr. Shippey back his lost dog tags. Like so many from the Greatest Generation, he served our nation honorably during World War II and then came home to start a family and build a life, including a successful career. Mr. Shippey exemplifies the qualities that make our nation great: loyalty, bravery, integrity and valor. He is a true American hero." Shippey's daughter, Sue DeVlieres, said, "Since he [Mr. Shippey] lost his wife, the only thing he has been asking for the past few years is his dog tags. Now he has them." Shippey joined the Air Force in November of 1942 as a radio operator. He deployed in October of 1943 and accumulated 961 flight hours, 106.5 of which were certified combat hours. He then redeployed in 1944, where he flew another 760 hours, of which 33 were combat hours. His total flight hours are 1,721, with 139.5 combat hours. He left active duty in October of 1945. He is the father of two sons and three daughters.

·       Today, Rep. Matt Salmon Announced His Second In A Series Of  Bills that will be introduced over the next few months to highlight and cut wasteful tax-payer funded programs government-wide. Upon introduction of his latest bill to eliminate federal funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Salmon released the following statement: “In my quest to continue to cut wasteful spending, my second piece of legislation as part of my SOS Initiative deals with defunding the United Nations Population Fund, an international, pro-choice organization that is consistently involved in supporting programs that go against the very principles on which America stands. Since U.S. taxpayers already fund many global health initiatives through both the Department of State and USAID, subject to congressional oversight and U.S. law, there is no need to further fund the UNFPA. It is time that Congress start finding ways to reduce wasteful spending in our budget instead of funding multi-national organizations that spend American dollars on duplicative programs. I am happy to lead this charge.”

·       Congressman David Schweikert Votes Last Week:

·       Yes on H.R. 2824, Preventing Government Waste and Protecting Coal Mining Jobs in America because I believe that overregulation is causing the lagging job creation that is hindering our economic recovery. This bill amends mining regulations and streamlines them by removing duplicative rules that drive up compliance costs.

·       In favor of H.R. 1459, Ensuring Public Involvement in the Creation of National Monuments Act to protect our state property rights. Currently, if the President can establish a national monument on any federal land, ignoring the views of the local community. In Arizona, where so much of our land is already owned by the federal government, it is imperative for the citizens in our state to have a say on any new restrictions, either environmental or economic, that a President could impose our communities with new national monuments. Under H.R. 1459, the public is guaranteed participation in the designation of a national monument and private property is excluded from use without the written consent of the owner. This important act restores states rights and reinstates checks and balances.

·        Why Parties Matter: While GOP registration in Arizona continues to exceed the number of registered Democrats by 5 percent, our higher turnout is what makes Republican voters more effective at the ballot box. The Republican electorate is engaged, and we're keeping voters informed on the issues and our candidates. Even independent voters, a growing segment of our electorate, benefit from the public discussion among candidates that can help them learn more, just like in the years of the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Interesting comments on independent voters from Robert Robb are here. – Courtesy AZGOP newsletter
