On March 25, 2014, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released a proposed rule that would assert Clean Water Act (CWA) jurisdiction over nearly all areas with any hydrologic connection to downstream navigable waters, including man-made conveyances such as ditches. In early May, 2014, Schweikert joined House colleagues in a letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and Department of the Army Secretary John McHugh for the proposed draft rule defining ‘waters of the US’ to be withdrawn and returned for further analysis and revision. The full letter can be read here. Schweikert is the author of the Secret Science Reform Act and a strong advocate for transparent data, evidence, and scientific research. The Secret Science Reform Act, H.R. 4012, prohibits the EPA from proposing regulations based on science that is not transparent or reproducible.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Frank Riggs: It’s a fact: Common Core has been an unmitigated disaster. Politicians from across Arizona and the nation have had ample opportunity to stand strong, and defeat Common Core. Sadly, they’ve not gotten the job done. I’m running to be your next Governor because I have the credentials and experience to see this fight through to completion. Stopping the Obamanization of Arizona means ensuring that local control is restored to the educational process and that Common Core is stopped in its tracks. Our students and educators deserve nothing less. You should know, that my three main rivals for the nomination, one Scott Smith unapologetically defends Common Core, and the other two, Ken Bennett and Doug Ducey waffle all over the place on Common Core, criticizing parts of it but refusing to publicly commit to repealing it! President Obama and the bureaucrats in Washington are encroaching on states’ rights every day. The federal government has grown out of control and we must push back to rein in their size, scope, and power.Stand with me today and together we can build a brighter future for our young students and ensure that parents and educators control education in Arizona -- not Washington bureaucrats.
