·       Gov Jan Brewer:   “I Ask That All Arizonans Hold In Their Thoughts And Prayers the family of U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Martin Barreras, a Tucson soldier who passed away Tuesday, May 13, from injuries sustained while serving in Afghanistan.  Command Sgt. Maj. Barreras, 49, dedicated more than three decades to military service, including five years as a U.S. Marine before enlisting in the Army. He was the top senior enlisted soldier assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas. Sgt. Maj. Barreras died from injuries he sustained in action in Harat Province, Afghanistan, where he has been deployed since December 2013.Our nation is forever indebted to individuals like Sgt. Maj. Barreras, who knowingly, selflessly and daily risk their lives to protect our nation and preserve our freedoms. As we mourn this American hero, let us always honor all of our nation’s men and women in uniform with our eternal gratitude and admiration.Out of respect for Sgt. Maj. Barreras, I have ordered that all state flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset tomorrow, May 16, 2014, and again on the day of his interment, for which services are pending.”

·       ATTN Candidates:  Several candidate announcement/events came in this week without any reference to the position they are running for.  Announcements without position, party affiliation and contact information, will not be posted. Don’t assume everyone knows who you are and what you are running for.

·       Congressman Trent Franks co-chair of the International Religious Freedom Caucus: We have learned that Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag -- a Sudanese Christian woman -- has been sentenced to death by hanging after being accused of apostasy by a court that gave her 'three days to recant' and 'return to Islam.' Ms. Ishag, who is married to an American citizen, was raised as an Orthodox Christian by her mother, thus making a 'return' to Islam fundamentally impossible. She is also eight months pregnant.Such blatant disregard for the value of human life --and religious freedom -- is an indescribable disgrace. I urge the U.S. State Department to immediately step in on Ms. Ishag's behalf and to articulate conclusively that such blatant abrogations of the most basic human rights will be taken extremely seriously, and that Sudan is expected to fulfill its sworn obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights."

·       Gov Jan Brewer and AHCCCS Director Tom Betlach today petitioned the Arizona Supreme Court to review the recent appellate court decision regarding the state’s Motion to Dismiss a lawsuit aiming to prevent implementation of the Medicaid Restoration law. In February, the Arizona Superior Court granted the state’s Motion on the basis that the plaintiffs – primarily a few state lawmakers who voted against the governor’s Medicaid Restoration Plan during last year’s legislative session – lacked standing to sue. An appeals court in April overturned the trial court ruling, allowing the lawsuit to move forward.’’

·       CD9 Candidate Wendy Rogers: “I regret to inform you Kyrsten Sinema just filed for re-election. This unfortunate news means it's left to us to end Kyrsten Sinema’s tenure in Congress. Under the failed leadership of Kyrsten Sinema and Barack Obama, our nation has suffered under one burdensome liberal policy after another. Our economic growth and job creation are being handcuffed, and our standing on the world stage has been significantly diminished. We’ve seen what these two politicians have done to us; I know you agree we can’t afford more of the same. We’re gearing up for a vigorous summer of campaigning. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me. Together, we can build a brighter future by pursuing policies to restore American exceptionalism. Let’s get it done.”

·        Diane Douglas, candidate for Supt of Public Instruction: “At a public event on Tuesday, May 13th, current State Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal used the term “barbarians” to describe parents who do not support Common Core. (Morning Scoop with Arizona Capitol Times.) If this is how John Huppenthal views the citizens of Arizona, then he should seriously consider suspending his campaign and retiring at the end his current term of office.“Thirty years in government has clearly distorted Mr. Huppenthal's view of the voters. I have never seen such disdain for the public on the part of a career politician like Huppenthal,” stated Diane Douglas, Republican candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction. Douglas continued, “We can have our differences out on the campaign trail but I have the highest respect for the parents of Arizona, who simply want what is best for their children. Mr. Huppenthal's words showed a disturbing level of contempt for anyone who does not fall in line with his view of the world. He proved that he does not have the temperament to represent the people of this state.” Douglas served on the Governing Board of Peoria Unified School District from 2005 to 2012, and was president of the board in 2008 and 2009.

·       CD3 Candidate Gabby Saucedo-Mercer: “It's time to Retire Raul Grijalva! Border Security is a National Security Issue, NOT an Immigration Reform Issue! In a story on May 6th, reported by a small local TV station in Texas, Armored Vehicles and Grenade Launchers were found in tunnels Near the Mexican border with Texas! See Story here If you've seen 'They Come to America' and its sequel, then you know the truth about the border.  You know the Mexican drug cartels are working with Islamic terrorist networks.  Filmmaker Dennis Michael Lynch told you about the congressional reports confirming that terrorists can make their way across the border and then back into Mexico at will. Chuck Schumer (D) is the Leader of the Gang of 8 on Immigration Reform. Schumer is also the head of the Democrat Senatorial Election Committee. He is in charge of raising money for Democrat Senatorial Candidates. He wants to keep the status quo in place. So does Raul Grijalva. There was a time when immigration was about poor people coming to get work in the U.S.  It was true at one time, but that changed now.  That is a lie being perpetuated over time and deceiving the public. It was true at one time, but that has changed now. Drugs and human smuggling is now the norm, and the preferred route is the protected land on the border. Sixty-two percent of the Arizona border land is Federal land.  The Border Patrol does not have unfettered access. Environmental Policy is driving law enforcement policy. Note: Raul Grijalva is a prime sponsor in establishing protected areas, not only in Arizona but in other states.”
