·       Don Turner, President Nevada Firearms Coalition-Pac: We just got word that Michael Bloomberg is back in Nevada with all his money, trying to force a ballot initiative to require background checks on ALL firearms transfers, and the creation of a Nevada gun registration program. Nevada gun owners must stand together to stop this ballot initiative, just like we did to oppose SB 221 in Carson City last legislative session. Don't forget that Bloomberg spent over $1 million and sent 11 lobbyists, including 3 paid for by New York City taxpayers, to Nevada to force SB 221 on law-abiding Nevadans. We need your help to make sure we can counter his message and defend our 2nd Amendment Rights. send Bloomberg back to New York. We have a hard fight ahead of us, and we need a coordinated effort. The Nevada Firearms Coalition PAC is prepared to take the lead in opposing this ballot initiative. In just hours after it was introduced, our existing supporters and new donations have allowed us to commit over $10,000 to fight this effort. However, that will not be enough against Michael Bloomberg’s millions. It is essential that we coordinate our efforts and work together to fight this battle. If you are a leader of a firearms group, please contact our PAC Manger Megan Bedera at to find out how we can work together.

·       Candidate Yard Signs In Your Neighborhood Are Legal.  The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees your right to free speech, and state law supports homeowners' rights to display political yard signs during election season -- despite HOA rules which may try to restrict your rights. Details on the law are here (toward the end of the document) and it's clear that an HOA cannot enforce sign regulations that are more restrictive than those of the city, town or county. If you are living in an HOA and run into this situation, please visit our Facebook page and tell your side of the story.  AZGOP newsletter.

·       ATTN Candidates:  Candidate announcement/events are coming in without any reference to the position they are running for.  Announcements without position, party affiliation and contact information, might not get posted as I don’t have time to research them.  Don’t assume everyone knows who you are and what you are running for.

·       The JLBC Staff reports monthly to the Legislature on the status of General Fund revenue collections and other fiscal issues. This report can be found on the following link: Among the key points of the document:

1.     May General Fund revenue collections totaled $647.3 million. Base revenues were 7.4% above May 2013.

2.     Overall May General Fund collections were $(11.9) million below the enacted budget forecast. Year-to-date base revenues are 2.1% higher than FY 2013, and total General Fund collections through May are $(55.4) million below forecast.

3.     A decline in individual income tax withholding was the primary reason for the May forecast shortfall. Withholding fell by (0.8)% in May.

4.     Sales Tax collections of $336.6 million were 4.2% above May of last year and approximately equal to the forecast for the month. Year-to-date sales tax collections are 5.7% above the prior year and are $5.4 million above the January forecast.

5.     Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF) revenues consist of gasoline and use fuel (diesel) tax, motor carrier fees (commercial carriers), vehicle license tax and registration fees, and various other fees. HURF collections of $101.6 million in May were up $249,200, or 0.2%, compared to May of last year. Year-to-date revenues are 2.6% above collections in the prior year, and are $17.6 million above forecast.

6.     The state’s fiscal health can also be measured by the operating fund balance. The state pays its bills out of the operating fund balance, which consists of the General Fund and certain dedicated funds. The operating balance is at $2.4 billion as of mid-May 2014. In addition, the state’s Budget Stabilization Fund has a balance of $455.1 million.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Al Melvin: “We have one week left until we have to make a decision regarding our campaign’s viability, ” Melvin said  addressing efforts to collect more than 4,500 $5 contributions needed to qualify for campaign funding. “I am running for Governor because I believe that the Republican Party ought to offer at least one candidate with a bold agenda that includes secure borders, the elimination of Common Core, tax relief and elimination, Texas-style Tort Reform, universal School Vouchers, an energy policy that addresses Arizona’s long-term needs and economic health, and more. Everywhere I go and every group I speak to generates a positive response and an encouraging amount of support.  But we are running out of time to qualify for Clean Elections funding if we want to give ourselves a chance to win this race. We have set a deadline of June 26 to decide whether we are on pace to get our $5 contributions on time.  If not, I will instruct the Secretary of State to remove my name from the Republican Primary Election ballot,” he said. Melvin’s campaign consultant supported the idea.  “Al isn’t running as an ego trip, he’s running so that these conservative ideas will have a champion.  But if the support to win isn’t there, I give him a lot of credit for not wanting to pull conservative votes from a conservative who can win.” said Constantin Querard. “Any conservative voter, regardless of political party or where they live in Arizona, can give $5.  If you want a consistent and proven conservative on the ballot this August, I hope you will visit my website or the Secretary of State’s website and give online today.” concluded Melvin.

·       LD28 Houses Candidate Mary Hamway: “A strong education system is key to job creation and economic prosperity. I support Governor Brewer's higher education standards, Arizona's College and Career Ready Standards, but this is just the beginning. To change the educational outcomes for our children to compete on a national and global level, we must communicate our high standards and high expectations to students, teachers and parents and honestly assess student progress. Also we must identify areas where additional support is needed and then fund the programs that can change the outcomes. Lastly, we must find new ways to bring the public back to public education by working together to create healthy communities and strengthen our civic infrastructure. As State Representative, I will support policies that focus on early childhood development, after-school programs, STEM, increasing the use of technology in classrooms and rewarding excelling teachers and schools. Additionally, I am a supporter of school choice, but understand that our current funding model for education needs an overhaul and that the definition of 'choice' must include better public schools. We can start by developing best practices and mentoring programs and empowering the local school districts with more authority. To achieve the educational outcomes we desire, we must reinvent Arizona's public education system to become more efficient, adaptable and accountable.”
