·       Gov Jan Brewer Has Appointed Shawn Marquez as Acting Director of the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures. “With nearly three decades of service to Weights and Measures, Mr. Marquez has the expertise and experience to continue advancing the Department’s important mission,” said Brewer.  Marquez has been with the Department for 27 years. He has served as Director of Compliance Programs, Deputy Director, Communications Director and Legislative Liaison.Marquez has been appointed to replace outgoing Director Kevin Tyne, who will serve as Chief of Staff to Maricopa County Supervisor Andy Kunasek. “Kevin’s service to the State of Arizona has been truly invaluable,” said Governor Jan Brewer. “He has been a loyal member of this administration from day one, and my dear friend and trusted confidant for nearly two decades. While I am saddened to see Kevin go, I am sincerely grateful for his honorable and devoted public service, which I know he will carry over to his next role. I wish him all the best.”

·       The Arizona Corporation Commission’s response to the EPA’s rules that mandate existing power plants reduce their carbon emissions 30%, based on 2005 standards, by 2030: “The Commission is carefully reviewing the EPA’s new rules with an eye toward determining the impact they may have on power plants within the state, the ability of power companies to continue to provide reliable service, and any jobs that could be affected. Most importantly, the Commission takes very seriously its responsibility to protect Arizona’s ratepayers. As Arizona’s utility regulators, we will monitor the implementation of these federal rules, and will work to mitigate any impact, maintain affordable rates, and provide responsible regulation.

·       Congressman Matt Salmon Regarding The Obama Administration’s recent negotiations with the Taliban, which resulted in the release Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and five, high-level terrorists. “I join most Americans in being deeply concerned by the precedent the President set by negotiating with terrorists in order to secure the release of Sgt. Bergdahl.  Now, with reports that there were multiple opportunities in the past to rescue Sgt. Bergdahl, the  decision to hold off and instead trade five top Taliban leaders demonstrates a clear lack of appreciation for the long-term risks that this move will have on all U.S. citizens visiting, living or serving in foreign locals. Sgt. Bergdahl’s specific service record aside, the President’s failure to consult with Congress as required by law is yet another example where this Administration has put itself above the law.  I eagerly look forward to the Congressional hearings that are already being planned to review the Administration’s actions.  Congress must hold the Administration accountable for these questionable tactics.”

·       The House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Rep. Frank Pratt, will meet Tues, June 10, at 1:30 pm to discuss the likely consequences of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) draft rule to regulate carbon emissions from fossil-fuel power plants, such as the Navajo Generating Station (NGS). House Speaker Andy Tobin met with representatives of the state’s utilities and other elected officials to hear their concerns regarding the negative economic impact of the proposed rule. In addition to the possible economic effects, there are concerns the rule does not take in to account reductions already implemented by the energy industry. “Arizona’s economy is still recovering and this proposed rule will likely cause the loss of thousands of jobs in rural Arizona and cost billions of dollars to our economy,” said Tobin. “Reliable and affordable power is essential and this rule will probably result in higher energy costs to consumers and shortages of supply.” The Navajo Generating Station and the Kayenta Mine account for nearly 1,000 jobs, 85% of which are held by members of the Navajo Nation. Between 2011 and 2044 it is estimated the two facilities will generate more than $20 billion for the state and contribute more than 3,000 jobs. Furthermore, the NGS provides more than 90% of the energy used to move water from the Colorado River across Arizona via the Central Arizona Project, a system of canals and pumping stations stretching from Lake Havasu to Tucson. “There are many unanswered questions and concerns with this proposed rule,” said Pratt. “This special meeting is an opportunity to hear from energy producers and others on how Arizona will be impacted and what the potential ramifications will be.”

·       Gubernatorial candidate Doug Ducey: Today, I'm proud to announce that we are launching our second TV ad of the campaign that will be airing statewide. The first TV ad was a great success, and I know the newest ad will resonate with voters as well. It focuses on my recently released policy plan, the Roadmap for Opportunity and Freedom, which takes a close-up look at my policy priorities and commitment to Arizona in a Ducey administration. To view ad, click here. Arizona voters responded well to my plan, and we’ve received great feedback about the campaign thus far. Early voting begins in less than 60 days and my team and I continue to outwork everyone to ensure we are on the ballot this November and working from the Governor’s office come January. Every day my confidence grows that we’re on the right track and running a winning campaign.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Frank Riggs today I applauded Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake, and their colleagues Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Richard Burr (R-NC), for introducing the Veterans Choice Act in the wake of the continuing VA scandal.  The bill will provide veterans with choice and flexibility in medical providers, and increase transparency and tighten accountability of the VA.  "The VA health care system is clearly overwhelmed and broken. Routine VA health care should be contracted to private providers so that existing VA facilities can be used for acute and in-patient care, and the swollen VA bureaucracy should be held to account for the delays in care and manipulation of records systemic throughout the VA, as highlighted by the inexcusable and unconscionable practices at the Phoenix VA Hospital." Riggs served in Congress with Coburn and Burr.  He was instrumental in obtaining funding for a VA outpatient clinic at Travis Air Force Base and helped spare that Military Airlift Command installation from the first round of base closure cuts.  Riggs will use that firsthand experience to protect Arizona's vitally important military installations, including Luke AFB, Fort Huachuca and Davis-Monthan AFB.  I am is the only candidate for Governor who has served in both the armed forces and Congress.  "It's clear more than ever, we need an experienced, tested and trusted leader in the Governor's office with a proven conservative record, " Riggs said.  "We can't trust the highest office in our state to someone who's a blank slate with no legislative record whatsoever to back their rhetoric and promises."

·       CD2 Candidate Kais On Veterans Affairs Scandal: “The lack of respect that our political appointees, career civil servants and politicians have demonstrated through their corporate climb for bonuses and awards has created an environment of fear, anger, distrust and hostility within the VA. We must criminally prosecute those who broke the law and rebuild an organization built on compassion, commitment and honesty. To do this, we must obey and enforce the rules and regulations by keeping the promises we have made to our veterans. We must change rules that prohibit having the people in place to do the mission. If changing the VA to Excepted Service (i.e., hiring that is outside the federal. Competitive Service) is the only solution, then it should be considered. If eliminating unions is necessary, then it should be considered. We cannot take ‘we have never done it that way before’ as an answer. America’s promise to our veterans must be honored. We must do a better job of caring for ourveterans, their widows and orphans. To do this, the Department of Veterans Affairs as a mission must continue, but it must be rebuilt from the bottom up with a thorough review of policies, processes, people and funding.”

·       CD1 Candidate Andrew Kwasman: After much contemplation and prayer, I made the decision to call for Ann Kirkpatrick's resignation. I did not make this decision lightly. But as we learn more about the growing scandal at the Veteran's Administration it has become clear Mrs. Kirkpatrick should not serve in Congress any longer. On February 2, whistleblower, Dr. Foote, sent Kirkpatrick a letter outlining his experience with the way veterans were being treated at the Phoenix VA facility.  Dr. Foote told Kirkpatrick about the secret lists and forged public documents. Kirkpatrick never responded to Foote.  In fact she did not make any public statements until April 9 when Congressman Jeff Miller went public with Dr. Foote's story. In the meantime nothing changed at the VA. The veterans kept waiting, the bureaucrats kept their jobs, the public was still in the dark. We cannot let this stand. Ann Kirkpatrick had an obligation to make these allegations public.  It is only when the glare of public scrutiny began to shine that the Obama Administration and the VA began to acknowledge problems existed. That Kirkpatrick sat on this letter is appalling. Through her spokesman Kirkpatrick is claiming she forwarded this letter to other authorities. If that is true, to whom was it sent and when did she send it?  And isn't a Member of Congress a high enough of authority?  Shouldn't an elected representative speak up when such explosive revelations are brought to her attention? I've had enough.  It is time for Representative Kirkpatrick to step down.

·       CD1 Candidate Andy Tobin: In reaction to Ann Kirkpatrick’s latest explanation of why the VA whistleblower was ignored by her office. “When a whistle is blown that veterans are dying in our own state, the ranking member of the Veterans Affairs Committee needs to do more than have a staffer just email. Congresswoman Kirkpatrick’s explanation on this is unacceptable and embarrassing to our state, and I am even more horrified to hear that she actually believes this was handled appropriately. This is particularly troubling given Congresswoman Kirkpatrick’s previous votes against ensuring veterans received their benefits and against ensuring veterans’ memorials remained open during last year’s government shutdown." “Our veterans deserve our full commitment that we will care for them. It is our responsibility as elected officials to make sure that commitment is being met, and Congresswoman Kirkpatrick clearly does not understand that, which is both sad and unacceptable.”

·       CD9 Candidate Andrew Walters testified on the newly proposed EPA rule change to the Clean Water Act during this week’s Congressional field hearing. Walter testimony: “I have serious concerns about the controversial new EPA proposal. At its core, this controversial new rule will do three things: destabilize America's goal for energy independence, kill hundreds of thousands of jobs, and bust the budgets of struggling families.  Unfortunately, this new federal power grab does little to advance public health but does much to further consolidate power in an unelectable and unaccountable federal agency. This controversial new proposal by the Obama Administration completely disregards our democratic process, which must be held sacred by those in elected office. The president seeks to bypass Congress and, in so doing, the will of the people. This hyper-partisan style of governing isn't Constitutional or right. I'd like to suggest for the record that these new EPA proposals have very little to do with protecting the environment and have everything to do with consolidating power in Washington away from the free men and women who make this country great, just trying to provide for their families.”

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Andy Thomas has announced his campaign web site is now up at  Thomas said: “There, you can read about my stand on issues, my record in fighting successfully for the community, the attacks I’ve received for my decade of leadership in securing the border (including the five years of attacks on my law license), my path to victory in the 2014 elections; also watch me give a speech or read past speeches, and learn how you can get involved in the campaign.  I hope you’ll take some time to read why we need a conservative warrior for Governor at such a critical time in our state’s history.”

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Frank Riggs:  Who are you going to trust to enforce the law and secure our border as the next Governor of Arizona? The so-called "wealthy candidates" who never served in the military and have no legislative record whatsoever to back their rhetoric and hollow promises? Or, will you support me, the only candidate with both military and law enforcement experience? I took an oath to defend our country when I enlisted in the Army and learned the Soldiers Creed of "No Man Left behind." I took the law enforcement oath of honor to protect and serve the public when I became a police officer. When I was sworn in as a U.S. Congressman, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. As a candidate for Governor, I'm making an oath with the people of Arizona to defend our state sovereignty from an intrusive and expansive federal government, secure our border, repeal Common Core and restore local control over K-12 education, and ensure that my fellow vets get the healthcare they need...and have earned. It may be a crowded field but I'm the clear conservative choice: the tested, trusted and most experienced candidate, by far, with a consistent record to match my promises. We need proven, conservative experience in the Governor's Office. Give me the opportunity and privilege of serving, and I'll be the courageous governor we want and the strong governor we need.

·       Treasurer Candidate Hugh Hallman: State Treasurer may not be the most glamorous of offices, but it's still very important to our state's future. The State Treasurer's Office can play an even more important role in making Arizona even stronger. The State Treasurer's job is to manage the state's assets and cash flow and be a prudent steward of your tax dollars. But I believe the office can do more. Much more. The State Treasurer should also serve as an advocate for balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility, which would help our state create jobs, improve our economy, make our educational system better and improve our quality of life. I'm running for State Treasurer because it's time our state got its fiscal house in order. It's time we balance Arizona's budget in a real and sustainable way.

·       CD2 Candidate Martha McSally on theObama Administration’s new energy regulations on states, expected to increase energy prices on families and businesses while eliminating jobs across the country. "At a time when both parties should be working together on bipartisan efforts to empower small businesses and get people back to work, President Obama appears to be pushing a hyper-partisan agenda to please his campaign donors over the needs of hardworking families. Plain and simple, this is a betrayal of middle class families who will be paying more in energy costs and will see many well-paying jobs disappear. What's more, the poor and struggling who have the least ability to afford these higher costs will be hardest hit. I call on Congressman Barber to join bipartisan opposition to these harmful regulations and stand up for families of the Second District against his party's job-destroying agenda."   On Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced draft rules that would require 30% reductions in CO2 emissions across the country over the next 15 years. Under the proposed rules, Arizona would be forced to cut emissions by 52%, the second-highest mandate for any state in the country. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimated last week the new regulations would cost the U.S. economy $50 billion and eliminate 224,000 jobs. The EPA also has admitted the new regulations will increase energy costs for American consumers.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Christine Jones: It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for the campaign. I have been hard at work visiting with people all across Arizona to talk about my conservative vision for growing our economy, improving education, and securing the border.  As we think about the future of our state, it’s important to remember where we’ve come from. Arizona was founded on the 5 Cs – Cotton, Climate, Cattle, Citrus, and Copper.  During our first one hundred years of statehood, each of the Cs contributed to wealth generation for Arizonans, and the development of our state’s economy. The 5 Cs will always play a role in our state’s economy, but today’s global economy moves us forward to other economic drivers – economic drivers I refer to as the 5 Ts – and the backbone of my new economic plan for our great state.Over the past several months I have sat down with many industry leaders, business owners, and policy experts to create an economic plan that empowers the private sector, stimulates growth for our existing businesses, and attracts new ventures to Arizona.  economic plan here.
