·       Congressman David Schwiekert: I wanted to share some helpful tips for your summer vacation planning. My team has seen passport issues become more of a problem this time of the year. Keep my office in mind when you're planning a summer getaway-- you'll see why when you read below. Summer is the season for traveling-- most often away from our home state of triple digit temperatures. If you haven't submitted the paperwork for your passport, or find yourself in a bind when planning a summer getaway outside of the U.S., take a look at my website.  It is my job to be a liaison for you if any unexpected delays occur. See how I can help with passport issues and  travel questions and call my Arizona team if you have any questions; (480) 946-2411.

·       Gov Jan Brewer Today Announced Patt Parker as the new Coordinator for Strategic Military Affairs, a role in which she will advise the governor on issues regarding the state’s military operations. Parker will serve as the central coordinator for state, federal and local officials regarding executive, legislative and federal actions necessary to sustaining Arizona’s current military operations and enhancing our preparedness to respond to potential new missions. In coordination with the Military Affairs Commission and other entities, Parker will assist Arizona military officials and communities in identifying and appropriating resources for the planning and improvement of our state’s military installations, with the overall objective of protecting and enhancing the economic and defense interests of Arizona.

·       Congressman David Schweikert: The majority of my time back home has been filled with a roundtable at the state capitol for the "EPA Waters of the U.S." proposed rule and a review of some of our casework requests here in the office. Thank you again to everyone who joined the conversation on Monday. If you weren't there, review this packet of testimonies and biographies of the panelists. The packed house and standing room only really proved to me that this is a unique issue for Arizonans.  The EPA's proposed rule to "redefine" the "waters of the U.S." under the Clean Water Act is a blatant overreach of power from the EPA. Now that we've made it clear this rule is something we're watching, join me in calling on the EPA and the Corps to tell us exactly every body of water that it intends to regulate. The rule's comment period is open until Monday, July 21, 2014. You can comment online, here.

You will be notified by the Recorder offices if your name will be on the ballot.

·       ATTENTION CANDIDATES:  Please confine your statements to no more than 250 words.  If they run longer, they will be edited.

·       Gubernatorial candidate Frank Riggs: It's been 70 years since Allied forces secured a beachhead in Normandy and began to turn the tides of war against the Nazi aggressors. I've had the opportunity to visit Omaha Beach and the U.S. National Cemetery in Normandy, and the experience was a powerful reminder of how much was sacrificed by our courageous servicemen and women in the name of freedom. We remember the Greatest Generation who saved the world from tyranny and all those who've answered the call to serve, and thank them for their bravery and selflessness.  Please visit my Facebook page at Riggs4AZgov to see the pictures from my visit to Omaha Beach.

·       CD2 Candidate Chuck Wooten:  … Forty American war fighters died.  Everyone in that chain of command should have fired.  People who were responsible for the care and let them down should be fired.  When the investigation is complete, providing it’s a real investigation and not like any other “fox guarding the hen house” DOJ investigation, everyone involved, including Shinseki should be considered for criminal charges and those guilty of the gross, deadly negligence should be prosecuted within the full extent of the law and that includes a permanent loss of pension and benefits. If the VA example is any indication how the government wants to ultimately run America’s healthcare…no thank you!  Every veteran who is awaiting an appointment for care beyond one week, needs an immediate mechanism (voucher or some other medium) to be seen at a doctor/facility of their choosing and the VA gets the bill.  There is plenty of sound reasoning to do this, but first and foremost, it’s our folks deserve it. The long-term fix for the VA must include practical, common sense, and humanitarian attributes that are fitting of the men and women who served us so honorably.  As a member of Congress and a veteran who has received medical care from the VA medical center in Houston, I will keep this issue in my sight and make sure whatever systemic “fixes” are applied work—and work well.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Doug Ducey: Hundreds of illegal immigrants – mostly women and children – were recently flown from Texas to Arizona and inhumanely left at Greyhound bus stations in Phoenix and Tucson because of a lack of federal immigration resources in Texas. It was another snapshot of all that’s wrong with immigration policy under the Obama administration.  Their idea of a “solution” is always to shift the problem to someone else, in this case to the people of Arizona.  Federal authorities lecture us on our responsibilities, and then they abandon illegal immigrants – in 100-plus degree heat, and in a state already dealing with Washington’s consistent failure to control the border. To hold the Obama administration accountable, I request that Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar, who serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, seek an immediate inquiry into the matter.  If Rep. Gosar and Chairman Darrell Issa take the lead in calling this hearing, Congress can get at the truth, and force the administration to explain its scandalous neglect of responsibility.  That would be at least one step toward a change in federal policy. We also demand answers from the Obama administration explaining its years-long betrayal of duty in the care of veterans, who ran out of time waiting for care from the Phoenix VA.  Here is a national scandal with an Arizona focus – and reform should begin with Arizona leaders. Sign the petition seeking immediate corrective action from Washington – in both immigration policy and in veterans affairs.

·       CD2 Candidate Chuck Wooten weigh-ins on a new ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that overturned an Arizona State law (HB 2036) to tighten regulations on abortion providers to ensure that the medical care they provide to pregnant women is in compliance with federal guidelines and not what's best for the clinic's profit margin.  In question was the use of RU-486 and Mifeprex.  These have strict prescription/use guidelines from the FDA and this new ruling by the appellate court struck down a lower court ruling in favor of clinics adhering to the federal safety guidelines.  On the matter Wooten commented, "Abortion is tragic enough without coupling it with reckless, unsafe “medical” practices. The 9thCircuit Court of Appeals ruling categorically invalidates and marginalizes scientific, FDA precautions that are designed to protect the health of the women involved in ingesting abortifacient drugs. As Americans have watched for far too long, liberal judges, particularly in the 9th Circuit are legislating from the bench at the peril of women, many of whom are already in a crisis situation.”  The entire story can be found on  Joanne Moudy - 9th Circuit Court Trashes Arizona Law: Puts Women at Risk

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Doug Ducey: It’s been a week filled with activity and announcements. First, I sent a letter to Congressman Paul Gosar, Arizona’s only member of Congress on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, calling for hearings to investigate why the federal government was routinely shipping hundreds of illegal immigrants – mostly women and children – from South Texas to Arizona. We started a petition seeking immediate corrective action from the federal government in both immigration enforcement and in veteran’s affairs. sign it at  I  released a signed a written pledge to the people of Arizona that outlines my commitment to the principles and values I promise to uphold as governor. It’s the only pledge I will sign in this campaign. I had an op-ed in the Arizona Daily Star on how I believe our state will continue to play a critical role in national defense operations - top priority to continue Gov. Jan Brewer’s leadership in this fight. We held a tele-townhall with Congressman Trent Franks with a record-breaking 3,000 people on the line. We passed the $2 million fundraising mark for the campaign. We are back on the air with a new ad about my policy plan, Arizona’s Roadmap to Opportunity and Freedom. We shared some Cold Stone Creamery ice cream with Mike Broomhead and his crew at KFYI while participating in a candidate forum with Arizona We Want and 12 News/AZCentral.
