·       MCRC Chairman A J LaFaro Op-Ed: Their Dream, Our Nightmare -- Unfortunately, I'm sad to say, the U.S. border with Mexico will never be sealed while President Barack Obama is in office. Tens of millions of illegal immigrants have crossed our southern border while hundreds of thousands have crossed our northern border. There is also a significant number that have arrived with visas and stayed illegally. These "overstayers" are estimated to be between 25 and 35 percent of the illegal immigrant population. An overwhelming majority of these illegals have come to the U.S. for their "utopian dream" of a greater opportunity. That could be a job, a free education, maybe social and welfare services or the profits from a criminal enterprise. Regardless of why, they have come to this country illegally with no regard for our laws and at a tremendous expense to the American people. According to a recent study, the cost to U.S. taxpayers of legalizing current illegal immigrants would be approximately $6.3 trillion. One of the few things the federal government is actually required to do by the U.S. Constitution is to defend our borders, and unfortunately the Obama administration has willingly chosen to leave our borders completely wide open, sending a message that illegal immigration will be tolerated. In part, that's why Mexico and Central America have encouraged the increase in the number of illegal immigrants that are currently invading our country. Some are calling it a "humanitarian crisis," when in reality it's a "U.S. sovereignty" crisis. Their "Utopian dream" has become our "American nightmare"!  See op-ed: What if the border-with mexico-was sealed  A produce importer and Republican leader ponder the possibilities of impenetrable border security.

·       Jose Borrajero Regarding Op-Ed Question: “That Is A Bogus Question, and the people at the AZ Central know it. No one is suggesting that the border be sealed. We are suggesting that it be secured, meaning that trade and legitimate crossings would continue. Only illegal crossings and overstays would be affected. However, it is the job of the AZ Central to mislead and obfuscate.”

·       Campaign Signs Missing? According To Doug Nintzel, Arizona Department Of Public Transportation Public Information Officer, “ If campaign signs that are incorrectly placed within state highway right-of-way boundaries are collected by ADOT crews, they are taken to maintenance yards and are kept there for a couple of weeks to give campaigns some time to pick them up.”  He added, “Under state law, no campaign signs are allowed within the right of way ‎along state highways. ADOT sends letters to registered candidates each campaign cycle as a reminder of the prohibition against signs within highway right of way areas.”  So, if check with the nearby ADOT Maintenance Yard to see if your missing signs are stored there. See  ARS 16-1019 –political

·       A Briefs Reader Suggest That All Candidates Take A Quick Photo with their cell phone after they place their signs -- "just in case" they are removed due to "misunderstanding" of where they were planted.

·       Candidate Yard Signs In Your Neighborhood Are Legal.  The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees your right to free speech, and state law supports homeowners' rights to display political yard signs during election season -- despite HOA rules which may try to restrict your rights. See HB 2069 (toward the end of the document) and it's clear that an HOA cannot enforce sign regulations that are more restrictive than those of the city, town or county according to AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham.  If you are living in an HOA and run into this situation, visit the AZGOP Facebook page and tell your side of the story.

·       A Soldier With The Arizona Army National Guard's 850th Military Police Battalion will receive a Purple Heart medal and reenlist during a ceremony at 1 pm, Sun., July 13 at the Papago Park Military Reservation, 5636 E. McDowell Rd., Phoenix.  Staff Sgt. Donald J. May – from Litchfield Park -  was wounded during convoy operations in April 2007 while serving as a lead vehicle commander with the 222nd Transportation Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. May and his driver were serving as scouts for the convoy when they were hit by an IED.  The company's mission was to supply soldiers during OIF with equipment that ranged from Meals Ready to Eat to parts for helicopters. The company is based in Chandler, Arizona. The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration still given to U.S. military members and is awarded to those killed or wounded while serving in combat.

·       An estimate 300 people attended The West Valley AZGOP Victory Office Open House this morning in Sun City, according to office coordinator Phyllis Lee. “The office was so crowded that we ended up putting chairs outside even though it was over 100 degrees,” she reports.  The Phoenix GOP HQ staff grilled hamburgers and hotdogs outside.  Food including pasta and drinks were served, along with donuts left over from a morning LD-21 PC training session.  Robert Graham was the only speaker.  Many politicians handed out campaign info including Maricopa County Board of Supervisors – District 4 incumbent Clint Hickman and challenger Sandra Dowling. LD21 Rep Rick Gray and Debbie Lesko attended as did activists and politicians from six other LDs. The Rat Pack, about 20 college age people, gathered went out to go door to door with campaign brochures, returning for lunch  The students are paid $10 an hour, to walk neighborhoods every Saturday.

See Briefs at Http://Archives.Mcrcbriefs.Org/

WHAT CANDIDATES ARE SAYING: Send to or  Briefs does NOT endorse candidates, nor candidate statements. Statements longer than 250/300 words will be edited/condensed.

·       Treasurer Candidate Jeff Dewit: Here is the big debate that originally aired a few days ago on Arizona Horizon, Channel 8. Thank you Ted Simons for hosting a great back and forth. Please feel free to let me know what you think, and freely share the video with other voters.

·       Tempe City Council Candidate Matt Papke: Campaigns are won on the doorsteps of voters. There is no substitute for a face to face interaction. 10,000 – that’s how many Tempe voters my campaign has personally contacted so far. There is more work to do this month. I need volunteers to reach the next 5,000.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Scott Smith: We just finished a statewide tour that covered 10 cities and 7 counties. Smith heard from Arizonans across the state and made clear his commitment to a prosperous future built on the success of every region. While other campaigns smear each other and dark money groups use the same, tired rhetoric, Smith stayed focused on meeting Arizonans one-on-one and sharing his positive vision for Arizona. Our campaign is proud to talk about our message and provide real solutions to issues like immigration, instead of pandering and mudslinging.  Commercial: Protecting Arizona TV Commercial   Tweets: We started Facilitate Don't Regulate in Mesa to create a culture where small businesses could thrive and grow into big businesses     Smith up with a new ad, "Governor Brewer is right."     Great breakfast at littleamericaAZ for Smith    Lots of Smith supporters in Show Low, brought their yard signs  Stories:  Smith makes Gila Valley appearance   Smith seeks top office in Arizona    Candidates picture Republican voters in dunce caps    Illegal immigration: Where the candidates stand   Is Brewer a border wimp?    Gubernatorial candidates discuss education, immigration at forum   Quote: "The only candidate showing even a modicum of common sense in the discussion is former Mesa Mayor Scott Smith. He wants the border secured, but also said during one of the candidates' debates, "With the way we're throwing around money up here, you'd think we'd have a gold mine. Poor Smith. It's not easy for a candidate in the Republican primary to be rational." – EJ Montini.

·       Scottsdale City Council Candidate Michael Auerbach: I live in Scottsdale and run my business here.  There isn’t any place on earth as special as our city.  That is why I am running.  I don’t belong to any of the various factions that seem to always be bickering and fighting for control.  I’m an outsider and I’m running to ensure that someone on the City Council is putting Scottsdale first.  I hope you will visit my website at to read more about me and my proposals, but I want to give you some of the highlights here.  I want to encourage high-tech, high-wage employers to come to Scottsdale.  I want to see McDowell Road redeveloped and turned into a proper showcase for our city.  I oppose sweetheart deals and want to work with our Mayor and the City Council to level the playing field and bring the right kind of economic growth to Scottsdale.  I want to keep our city safe by providing our public safety officers and first responders with the equipment and training they need and a salary to ensure that we’re being taken care of by the best people.  While some of my opponents seem to be more concerned with serving the unions, my concern is for the rank and file members and the taxpayers who pay their salaries.  I am also concerned about our quality of life.  Our way of life needs to be well-managed and defended.  Housing growth needs to be balanced and must respect the nature of the communities in which the growth is occurring.  Most of all, we need to put what is best for our city ahead of personal or political agendas.  I Ask For Your Vote, I promise to serve honorably, and to always have an open door. Thank you!
