MCRC Briefs

August 11, 2014

·       Add the Arcadia Precinct in LD28 and Graham County to the four or five precincts in LD23 that the out-of-state headquartered Arizona Grassroots Action Committee has sent ‘vote for’ select precinct committeemen campaign mailers  into -- angering  the more conservative PCs who were omitted.  See  8-8-14 and 8-9-14 MCRC Briefs for prior stories.

·       A Reader Questions:  “Why are political groups collecting money from around the globe to attack hard working Precinct Committeemen in Arizona?  Who are they working for and against? What is the ulterior motive?  Who gave these people the hit list of targeted names of people running for Precinct Committeeman NOT to vote for? There are skunks in here somewhere.”

·       URGENT- The MCRC Needs To Provide At Least 20 Unpaid Volunteers to officially observe the early ballot counting at Maricopa County Elections beginning on Wednesday, August 20th lasting through Saturday, August 30th.  We need to have 2 volunteers observing at all times throughout the day. The early ballot counting will be conducted all day, every day at the Elections - MCTEC Office, 510 S. Third Ave., Phoenix AZ 85003, 602-506-1511. Please e-mail Chairman LaFaro your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and the day(s) you are willing to work.  A J LaFaro – Maricopa County Republican Chairman

·       Maricopa County Elections is still needs Republican Poll Workers for Legislative District (LD)17, LD24, LD26, LD27 and LD28.  In addition LD13, LD17, LD23 and LD26 need Bilingual Republican Poll Workers. Anyone interested in being a poll worker in these Legislative Districts needs to contact, as quickly as possible, Colleen Redmond, Board Worker Recruiter Supervisor, Maricopa County Elections, at  or 602-372-3713. Thanks.  A. J. LaFaro - Chairman, Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC)

·       Please Have Your Republican Poll Watchers Concentrate on the even numbered
polling locations.  Please remember that a Republican Poll Watcher will only be
allowed into a polling location if they are carrying one of the salmon colored
authorizations that has been originally signed by Chairman A. J. LaFaro.  Every
Legislative District (LD) has been given its initial allotment of authorization forms
with the exception of  LD24 which still needs to get theirs.
Link to the Maricopa County Elections Facility/Polling Place Detail Report.
It lists all 724 Maricopa County Polling Locations.  It's an interactive report where you
can sort by clicking on the column heading or you can even export the entire report to an excel spreadsheet.
Several weeks ago at a meeting of the Maricopa County Elections management and the Chairmen of Maricopa County's Political Parties, I won a coin toss and chose the odd numbered polling locations.  Maricopa County Elections is working hard to make sure the odd numbered polling locations have a Republican Poll Inspector in charge and the even numbered have a Democrat Poll Inspector in charge.  In addition, Maricopa County Elections is doing everything possible to staff each polling location with an equal number of Republican and Democrat poll workers.

We have two weeks until the August 26th Primary.  Important upcoming date:

·       August 15th  -  Last day to request an early ballot

·       August 22nd  -  Last day to vote in-person at one of the 21 voting centers located in Maricopa County

·       August 26th  -  The day of the Primary Election

My deepest thanks to all the hard working Precinct Committeemen and Republican volunteers.   A. J. LaFaro - Chairman, Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC)

·       Today the Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party Criticized Arizona Democrats who implemented an election strategy that avoids involving voters in the selection of the Democrats' nominees for governor, secretary of state, and attorney general .“We’ve known for some time that elites within the Democratic Party gamed the system to ensure only one of their candidates was on the primary ballot,” said Arizona Republican Party Chairman Robert Graham.  “Every voter receiving a Democrat Party ballot in this election is being reminded that their right to choose their candidate is being denied by the Democrats."  According to the most recent published voter registration figures from the Arizona Secretary of State, there are more than 960,000 registered Democrats and more than 1,130,000 other voters who are eligible to vote in the Democrat primary.  That means two-thirds of the more than 3.2 million voters in Arizona who are eligible to vote in Democrat primary are being refused the right to play a role in selecting the Democrat nominee for the state’s top offices. The latest figures available from Maricopa County, which holds nearly 60% of Arizona’s registered voters, show that independents voting early greatly favor voting a Republican primary ballot compared to voting the ballot of the Democrats.  As of today 42,310 independents have requested a Republican primary ballot compared to only 18,547 who have requested the Democrat ballot. “Republicans in Arizona are engaged in a vigorous set of campaigns for nomination of multiple offices -- a competitive process for choosing the nominee that best represents the people of our party, while the Democrats chose instead to have a Soviet-style election,” Graham added.

·       A LD18 Cameraman Has Videoed Two Men Allegedly Vandalizing GOP Campaign Signs at approximately 9:45 pm, Sat., August 9, 2014 at Dobson and Warner Roads.  The past few weeks, an excess of 130 signs are reportedly  missing  or destroyed in LD18 – mainly the red “Arrow of Truth” signs that point at the signs of incumbent house candidates Bob Robson and Jeff Dial as a reminder to voters that Robson and Dial voted for the Governor’s ‘Medicaid Expansion’ aka ‘Obamacare, according to LD18 PC Mike Richardson. A police report has been filed.

·       Congressman Trent Franks has been named the biggest spending cutter in the entire U.S. House of Representatives, according the a recent report released by the National Taxpayers’ Union Foundation, which tallies Representatives’ individual votes and how much they would ultimately add or subtract from the federal deficit. According to Pete Sepp, Executive Vice President of the National Taxpayers’ Union Foundation, “Last year, House members with legislative agendas to increase federal spending outnumbered those who would reduce spending, while fewer still proposed to cut the budget by more than $100 billion. Congressman Franks far exceeded this level of spending restraint. If all lawmakers had sponsored agendas similar in savings to that of Congressman Franks, the federal budget deficit would likely be significantly lower than it is today.”

Franks said, “The primary role of government in the economy is to foster a secure, predictable, and trustworthy national venue, and then simply get out of the way of free enterprise and let the people produce. This means less regulation, less taxes, less intrusion into private markets and business, and less federal spending.  I am honored to have been named the biggest spending cutter in the House of Representatives and strive to chart a course that ensures my children get to walk in the sunlight of freedom in the same America in which I was born and raised. And that means ensuring our nation doesn’t spend itself into oblivion.”

·       Gubernatorial candidate Frank Riggs Responds To Thomas Attack: One of my opponents has circulated a wildly inaccurate mailer.  He alleges that Riggs "cites a single vote while he was a California Congressman as his 'experience' in fighting illegal immigration."  Facts: Riggs, a three-term Congressman, has substantial experience fighting illegal immigration. (1)  Riggs has been on the front lines of as a police officer and deputy sheriff.  (2)  As a Congressman/Vice-Chairman of the California Republican Congressional Delegation, Riggs helped secure funding to build the double fence on the into the Yuma Sector of California and Arizona's border with Mexico.  Riggs promises to work to get the funding to secure the Tucson Sector. (3)  In 1998 Riggs introduced and forced a vote on legislation in the U.S. House to prohibit federal taxpayer benefits for illegal immigrants. (4) Riggs received an "A" grade from Numbers USA for his consistent voting record to control immigration, and combat illegal immigration and amnesty measures.  The organization "scored" 11 key votes (not a single vote as alleged) during his three terms and ranked him on his votes to reduce chain migration; reduce refugee and asylum fraud; reduce amnesty entitlements; reduce anchor baby citizenship; reduce illegal immigration rewards; and reduce illegal immigration at borders. Proof: The opponent also claimed that Riggs "condemned SB 1070," yet Riggs strongly supports SB 1070 and its sanctions against employers who hire illegal aliens.  Riggs said, "It's easy to parse and criticize my record when you have no legislative record yourself. I'm the only candidate for Governor with both a law enforcement background and the proven record that shows I can be trusted to enforce the law and protect the border as our next Governor!"

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Doug Ducey: We are almost two weeks away from Election Day.  Thanks to supporters, we've been able to get our message out to hundreds of thousands of Arizonans.  These next 14 days will be critical to the outcome of the race, and I need your help to finish the race. If you can spare a couple of hours this week to come into our campaign headquarters and make phone calls. We will be having another Super Saturday this weekend. Congressman Trent Franks will be at campaign headquarters as we make calls to voters.  If you think you can come this weekend, then please respond for more details. We are almost there, but we still need to finish strong.  Please help Doug by sparing a couple of hours this week.

·       Scottsdale School Board Candidate Laddie Guy Shane: I'm honored to have a broad coalition of support that will create a working relationship to build Scottsdale as a whole. If we are to rebuild SUSD for success, we must work together as a community and that is what I will do. With your help we can grow this coalition and have a board that stands for fiscal accountability with priority-based budgeting that stops wasting tax dollars, rebuilding trust in the community and empowering teachers & students to raise student achievement. I would be honored to have your vote but what is more important is your trust. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have.  I cannot do this without you and any support you can provide is amazing. To learn more about me and our campaign, please visit my website, or click here now.

·       Tempe City Council Candidate Dick Foreman: In my work as a journalist, I advocated for transparency and honesty in government...the duty of the press is to be the fourth check of government and I was honored to be part of that.Sadly, there is less transparency in politics today than ever before. Independent expenditure groups, called I.E.'s, funded by deep pocketed secret donors, push messages that are inaccurate distortions of the truth. And they're coming after me. In fact, one has just announced a major expenditure, and I'm the target. If that message goes unchecked, our town—our community will pay the price with even more calls for tax increases and programs we simply cannot afford. Our small business community needs tax relief, not tax increases. Our homeowners, many on fixed incomes, simply seem to fall by the wayside to political agenda. The truth is, we don't know what falsehood they'll come up with next, but we have got to be ready for it. Hundreds of you have stood with me and frankly, this is the time to put a proven tax reformer, advocate and business friendly member on our council. I'm asking for your help—today! We're fighting back against these I.E.'s but can't do it alone. We're trying to raise another $5,000 by August 15th. Momentum and the grassroots are on our side. Can you chip in $10, $15 or $20 to help us out? Everything goes a long way in this race. I love Tempe and I can't stand by while these groups tear it apart one election at a time.

·       LD18 Senate Candidate Tom Morrissey says:  The experience of campaigning for office after being Chairman of the AZ GOP, brings a rare perspective of reality that would not have been apparent otherwise.  The reality is that true change in the course of our country must come from THE BOTTOM UP.   This has invigorated me as I go through the rigors of day to day campaigning.  Change can only start in the state legislatures across the nation and Arizona is front and foremost in the national consciousness as a pioneer, a leader, in a sense.  The most obvious example of this mindset is our own “father of modern conservatism,” Barry Goldwater, whose campaign for president led directly to the election of Ronald Reagan.  When Goldwater ran in 1964, I was a very young man and one of the few volunteering for his campaign in New York City. I remember being crushed when he was defeated so soundly.  What I did not know then but have come to understand is that Barry Goldwater had stirred a conservative movement that resonated throughout this country and eventually swept aside the elites within our party, and the liberalism of the Democrats. We followed a path through the 1976 Republican Presidential Convention, to the nomination of Ronald Reagan in 1980.  This happened because the grassroots stood strong and realized their power.  We are involved once again in this classic struggle between “those who think they know better,” and “we the people” or the grassroots.  When all is considered, the power rests with us.  Now we must use that power and see to it that we elect true constitutional conservatives!  Yes it is hard and brutal work, but our country is a stake and we must give all we have to save it.  There is no time to waste.
