·       Whoever Is Destroying Political Signs Throughout Maricopa County should remember that it is Class 2 Misdemeanor  (ARS 16-1019 –political  signs )  if caught  and prosecuted. Photos received this morning show signs in LD18 -  not just knocked down, but broken into pieces. If you see someone destroying or messing with political signs, please photograph them and take the photos to the victims or send them to MCRC Chairman A J LaFaro   The middle of the night vandals are not only costing their victims a lot of money to replace their signs – but that same behavior is reflecting badly on those who are promoting or allowing the destruction to occur.

·       Huppenthal And Douglas Battle In Superintendent Of Public Instruction Debate    John Huppenthal insisted on getting an extra sixty seconds at the end to explain why it was important for him to visit schools in China. Diane Douglas responded and closed the debate by saying: "Taking a trip to communist China sponsored by one of the publishing companies that stands to make a fortune off of Common Core speaks for itself. With that I'll say goodnight, God bless you all."

·       Editor’s Note:  In The Midst Of Some 500 E-Mail I receive every day, this heart-warming video popped up among all the press releases of world strife, turmoil,  politicial  rhetoric and in-fighting.  It is too good not to share, Thank you Jaynee Lewis.  The Candy Bomber  Take a moment view it.  – Frosty

·       Today, The Arizona Court Of Appeals Ruled In Favor Of The Secretary Of State In Committee For Justice & Fairness (CJF) V. Arizona. “The people of the state of Arizona have a right to know who is funding advertisements attempting to influence elections,” said Secretary of State Ken Bennett. “I am pleased the Court sided with voters in this matter.” Just days before the 2010 General Election, CJF spent approximately $1.5 million running an attack advertisement against then Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne as he ran for the state attorney general. CJF argued that because the attack ad on Horne was limited to his record in the state legislature and superintendent and made no mention of the attorney general race or his opponent, the ads were issue-oriented speech and not express advocacy. However, the court ruled that while Horne was not identified as a candidate by the ad, nor did the ad state “do not elect Tom Horne;” the timing and tone of the ad occurred at a time when people were well aware of Horne’s candidacy in the attorney general race. Therefore, according to the Court, the ad could have no other reasonable interpretation and was found to be express advocacy. Additionally, the Court of Appeals reversed the trial court and found that the bedrock of Arizona’s campaign finance reporting system is constitutional. The Court, in keeping with longstanding Supreme Court jurisprudence, found that disclosure does not have a chilling effect on speech.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Ken Bennett: The last time the state budget was truly balanced, was 2007, the last year Ken Bennett served as President of the Senate.  During his eight years of service, the legislature balanced the budget, cut taxes, increased education spending, and saved more than a billion dollars into the state’s cash reserves. As Governor, Ken Bennett will continue that tradition of leadership by implementing necessary changes to the state’s tax structure, paying down debt and forcing the state to live within its means. “Experience matters,” said Bennett.  “Our detailed, 9-point plan outlines my priorities for the state based on years of public service from the Prescott City Council, to my tenure as Senate President.  If Arizona is to return to the level of prosperity we enjoyed less than 10 years ago, we cannot afford to elect a Governor who would need on-the-job training.” Bennett’s plan for the economy is highlighted by his proposal to gradually eliminate the state’s income tax and stabilize the state’s revenue stream with a low, broad-based consumption tax. “State governments should not be reaching into citizens’ paychecks and funneling taxes away before they even receive payment,” said Bennett.  “Our taxes need to be consumption-based where we pay taxes as we spend, rather than as we earn.  By taxing based on consumption, the tax burden is proportionate to how much you spend, and therefore you have more control of finances.  A consumption-based tax would also take into account incomes made illegally or ‘under the table,’ as the tax is on expenditures, not incomes.”  Bennett’s comprehensive 9-point plan

Please see the details below, and please let us know right away how you want to help Andrew respond.  Saturday office hours: 9am-5 pm.  Saturday Morning Walk: 9-11 am, Sat., Aug 9 from Kyrene de la Mariposa School, 50 E. Know Road, Tempe.  Bring water, sunscreen. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday! Contact: 480-447-5492.
