·       Congratulations To LD20s Jan Cottrill, Aka ‘Dolly Madison’, on receiving special

recognition from the City of Phoenix. Cottrill was presented with a Commendation which reads in part, "During the past several years, you formed the ICU Precinct Watch that has grown to over 200 homes. You have provided pertinent information that has led to arrests, shutting down drug houses and aided in the beautification of your community by reporting blighted properties. It has been a privilege working with you in making the community a safer and better place. Your efforts have left a positive impact on the City of Phoenix. Signed- Daniel V. Garcia - Chief of Police - August 2014.  For health reasons she has been confined to her home for some time. Her home has been her “office”. Thank you, Dolly, for making a corner of our world a better place!

·       Alan Korwin Uninvited Ombudsman: This morning’s Bob Ortega's Arizona Republic article about Senators Flake, McCain and Rep. Barber wanting answers about the Border Patrol housing fiasco in Ajo is excellent.  Paying $680,000 each for 21 small houses, that typically run $86,500, is an outrageous affront to the entire nation. Officials who ignored their own rules and violated federal law to do this should be held accountable, of course. The story has two fatal flaws. Who got the money? How does anyone with a straight face sell something for eight times its value? Out here in the public that's called a rip off, worthy of punishment. But that never sees the light of day in the "news." Only the spending, never the getting. Identify the rip-off artist(s) please. The other problem is that you have called this as a violation of law, but failed to identify the statute or penalty. Curious taxpayers want to know. Too often, federal violators face no penalty. Is this one of those where government agents face no retribution for crimes committed? Please fill in that glaring blanks. – Alan Korwin

·       McCain-Flake-Barber-Question Ajo-HousingThat audit confirmed that the CBP spent an average of $680,000 on each house, or about eight times the median cost of a house in Ajo, $86,500. The audit also said that the CBP spent about $2.4 million to buy 20 mobile homes — at $120,000 apiece — that have stood mostly empty. Auditors said that "we identified about $4.6 million CBP spent on the project that could have been put to better use." That included, auditors said, paying nearly triple what it should have for 12 acres of land it acquired for the project. Auditors concluded that the CBP ignored its own rules, bypassed proper oversight and violated federal laws in the way it transferred funds.

·       Veteran Nathan Fair Sings A Heartbreaking Son For Those Returning And Those Left Behind  It wasn’t until he served in Iraq and Afghanistan that Staff Sgt. Nathan Fair saw his guitar as an escape. He’d play whenever he had a chance, whether it be for himself or for his fellow soldiers. Once back in the United States, Fair understood that his guitar and his voice represented something different than an escape: they represented the brothers and sisters he fought with overseas—both those that returned, and those that did not. ·       Sen Jeff Flake: With the upcoming elections, there's been a lot of focus on domestic issues: jobs and the economy, the federal budget, VA reform, and other problems that need to be addressed. But the situation in Iraq and Syria and the rise of ISIL demonstrates why elections are so important. The threat ISIL poses to U.S. interests and American citizens is clear. It is in our national interest to eliminate that threat. I sincerely hope that President Obama is successful in leading the mission that he has outlined, although the track record of this administration on foreign policy does little to instill confidence. When the Assad regime in Syria crossed President Obama's so-called "red line" without an appropriate response from the Administration, not only did it give ISIL more time to grow stronger and gain a foothold in the region, it made our friends and enemies alike question our country's resolve and commitment. This week, Congress passed authorization and funding for Syrian moderates with the hope that strengthening them will weaken ISIL. It's not a great option, but might just be the best option available to us at this time. I would hope that Congress will go further and provide the President with more specific authorization to use military force for the mission, but the Democratic leadership in the Senate will not bring such a resolution forward.  There is a great deal of frustration with the way the Obama Administration is handling this crisis as all as a host of other issues, foreign and domestic. But President Obama isn't on the ballot this year. What we can, and must do, in November is change the leadership in the Senate by changing the Senate majority. Thanks for all you are doing to bring this about.

·       Community College Candidate Jean Mcgrath: Reduce Your Taxes And Tuition By Supporting Republican Pcs For Maricopa Community College Seats  -- Maricopa Community College Board has increased tuition 63% in the last 10 years.  Property taxes have increased until they are now over 12.8 %.  We can no longer afford to leave the Board in the control of  liberal Democrats. Four Republican Precinct Committeemen are running for the board:  John Heep and Tracy Livingston are candidates for the two at-large seats.  Johanna Haver is running in County District 3, North Central valley and Jean McGrath is running in County District 4, North West valley.  The current budget for MCCD is 1.8 billion dollars and climbing with each tax and tuition increase.   Visit our website to learn of our goals: Our site was published before we knew Tracy Livingston was running, but she agrees with our goals of supporting students and taxpayers by cutting unnecessary and wasteful spending.  All other candidates for these 4 offices are part of the "I feel good when I can tax and spend "other people's money".  Margaret Thatcher voiced it best when she said "The only problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money".

·       CD2 Candidate Martha McSally: The Arizona Republic Editorial Board weighed in today on Americans for Responsible Solutions’ despicable attack ad against Martha McSally, saying it “exploits a family's tragedy to score cheap political points.” giffords-mcsally-ad  Does Ron Barber support this cheap exploitation of tragedy? Do you know what you're doing? The ad is tomeant to help Democratic incumbent Ron Barber in his bid for re-election. It is emblematic of a wave of tough new advertising the gun-control lobby pushed out, did not result in meaningful gun-control legislation. The anti-McSally ad is more than hardball politics. It is base and vile. It exploits a family's tragedy to score cheap political points. The ad makes news because it goes too far.  Americans for Responsible Solutions, do you know what you're doing? Do the people who control your messaging know they are marring the legacy of a Congresswoman Gabbie Giffords,  known for her decency and good judgment, who practiced civility in office with such consistency she found cherished friends there? We have never forgotten the stricken face of Republican Jeff Flake after a gunman shot his friend Gabbie Giffords and 18 others. Gabbie Giffords never resorted to the kind of squalid campaigning. She won her fights with energy, ideas and a disarming good nature. She didn't do nasty. After she was shot, Flake said, "A number of us have longed for more civility before this tragedy" and she is "a perfect model of civility. We should use this opportunity to think about it more," he said. Perhaps the Tucson shooting changed Gabbie Giffords. Perhaps she is the one who controls the message. But we doubt it. That's not who she is.
