·       Congressman Paul A. Gosar’s  Statement today  after his sponsored legislation, H.R. 4924, The Bill Williams River Water Settlement Act passed the House Natural Resources Committee By Unanimous Consent: “I am very pleased to see this important, bipartisan water rights settlement pass unanimously through the house committee on natural resources. Thousands of Arizonans, including the Hualapai Tribe, are one step closer to benefiting from this legislation which will result in a significant net water benefit to the region. In addition, this bill allows for additional public access for hunting and fishing while the local counties benefit from the good paying jobs and tax revenue associated with continued use of the Bagdad Mine. Water is critical to our continued economic stability in Arizona and is a limited resource on which there are many existing demands that need to be met. This settlement sets a positive example for public/private partnerships to advance a cooperative resolution for long-standing water disputes. Furthermore, it will provide clarity and certainty of water resource availability to other water users in the State Of Arizona. This bill clearly has overwhelming support and I will continue to push for this legislation to be brought to the house floor for a vote as soon as possible.”

·       Background: H.R. 4924 would facilitate the achievement of a fair and equitable settlement of certain claims within the Bill Williams River watershed among the Hualapai Tribe, the U.S. Department of the Interior acting on behalf of itself and as trustee for the Tribe, the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, and Freeport McMoRan Minerals Corporation. The bill would ratify the Big Sandy River-Planet Water Rights Settlement Agreement and the Hualapai Tribe Bill Williams River Water Rights Settlement Agreement. The Congressional Budget Office has determined that the bill costs nothing to the federal government. Additionally, The Hualapai Tribe benefits from this legislation by securing certain water rights from two non-federal contributions by Freeport-McMoRan for an infrastructure fund and an economic development fund. Congressman Gosar has posted a fact sheet for H.R. 4924 on his website which can be found HERE.

·       Today The House Passed Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar’s  Amendment to the Secret Science Reform Act of 2014, requiring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to make all scientific and technical information relied upon for rulemaking available online, successfully passed the House by unanimous consent. Gosar said, “For far too long, the EPA has used secret studies and so-called peer-reviews from biased sources to justify regulations that fit their job-killing agenda. Not only does this practice result in a lack of transparency, it also leads to hundreds of thousands of jobs being destroyed across the country by unreasonable and unnecessary regulations. Additionally, hardworking taxpayers are left to pick up the tab for these expensive, and often worthless, regulations. The best way to reign in this rogue agency is to make them publish the science supporting their regulations online. Furthermore, I strongly support the Secret Science Reform Act of  2014, and I’d like to congratulate my good friend and fellow Arizonan David Schweikert (AZ-06) on passage of this commonsense legislation.”

·       Background: The Congressional Budget Office determined that Congressman Gosar’s amendment would not score and would not affect direct spending or revenues. Congressman Gosar’s amendment is supported by the Chairman of the Science, Space and Technology Committee, Congressman Lamar Smith (TX-21).The Secret Science Reform Act would require the Environmental Protection Agency to utilize actual science when formulating regulations and requires that the science be made available for peer-review and reproduction. The text of the Gosar amendment can be found HERE. The Congressional Research Service estimates the Obama Administration has already squandered $77 billion from FY2008 through FY2013 studying and trying to develop global climate change policies. If the EPA is implementing regulations that cost our economy billions of dollars every year, at minimum, the science used to justify these regulations should be based on actual science that is made available online in order to allow independent analysis and reproduction.

·       Congressman David Schweikert’s Secret Science Bill Passes the House today. Schweikert Chairman of the House Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on the Environment statement following the passage of H.R. 4012, The Secret Science Reform Act Wednesday. The legislation prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from proposing regulations based upon science that is not transparent or not reproducible.  “The Secret Science Reform Act rules 'secret science' a condition of the past, said Chairman Schweikert. Public policy should come from public data. For far too long, the EPA has approved regulations that have placed a crippling financial burden on economic growth in this country without public evidence to justify their actions, all the while keeping science in the shadows. This common-sense legislation forces the EPA to be accountable with their findings and brings transparency to the forefront of the regulatory process. The Secret Science Reform Act brings science out of the shadows.”

  • Diane Douglas for Superintendent of Public Instruction VICTORY!  Ms. Diane Douglas was recently declared the winner as Arizona's Superintendent of Public Instruction.  As you read her statement below, please be aware that within minutes of these results, a group formed a committee to recall her.  The ugliness of the Left and the statists is in full swing.  They literally despise anyone who stands up for Individual liberties and local control.   (Academic experts with advanced degrees concur with other academic experts with advanced degrees that only academic experts with advanced degrees should control K-12 education.)  You can expect the self-appointed experts, with the trusty aid of the progressive leftist media, to document and repeat/repeat/repeat every Douglas misstep.  Please read what Ms. Douglas has to say.  She supports Arizona's parents and teachers in ensuring that our children receive the best education possible.
