Thanksgiving Day

·       MCRC Chairman A. J. LaFaro: My Sincere Apology To Jerry Clingman, Mara Benson, Chad Heywood, Deborrah Miller And Taylor McArthur

A few days ago, I received several phone calls from LD16 Precinct Committeemen expressing their opinions and serious concerns about improprieties at the LD16 Organization/Election Meeting  that was held on November 20, 2014.  I requested they e-mail me their concerns and demands for the MCRC to nullify the election.  After reviewing their concerns and follow-up conversations with these individuals and others, I contacted Trevor Hansen informing him of the situation.
We exchanged several e-mails concerning the situation and I requested these e-mails be posted on the November 25, 2014, MCRC Briefs along with the initial written complaint from Jerry Clingman.

Posting Jerry Clingman's initial written complaint was poor judgment on my part and I want to publicly retract and sincerely apologize to Jerry Clingman, Mara Benson, Chad Heywood, Deborrah Miller and Taylor McArthur for publishing any false and defamatory statements that may have appeared in that initial written complaint - especially Mara Benson's role in the recent LD16 Organization/Election Meeting.

On November 26, 2014, several people received a Demand Letter from Kory Langhofer, Attorney at Law. The legal arguments he presented were compelling and I have personally concluded the MCRC, the MCRC Bylaws and the precepts the organization is governed by need to be thoroughly reviewed, discussed and understood as to the authority and responsibilities the MCRC legally has and does not have.  According to Kory Langhofer, the MCRC does not have the authority to nullify LD elections, thus my decision to nullify the LD16 Organization/Election was invalid.

I now realize the remedy for the LD16 Precinct Committeemen who feel their November 20th election was improperly conducted rests elsewhere - not with the MCRC.  For the record, I received written complaints not only from Jerry Clingman but several other individuals documenting their concerns demanding the MCRC nullify the election - including LD16 state elected officials and a precinct captain.  It is my understanding there are possibly other LD16 Precinct Committeemen who feel the same way.  Hopefully they will get justice.  I encourage these individuals to seek legal counsel.

Please note the following actions I have taken in order to comply to Kory Langhofer's demands:

1.  I requested Frosty Taylor immediately remove all the information concerning the LD16 Organization/Election issue from the MCRC Briefs.  That information was removed at 6:10am Thanksgiving Morning 11/27/2014.

2.  I requested Jerry Clingman immediately withdraw the Call to Meeting for the LD16 Organization/Election Meeting scheduled for Friday 12/05/2014.  It appears any possible remedy for the disenfranchised LD16 Precinct Committeemen rests elsewhere and I encourage them to seek legal counsel.

3.  I wrote this letter of explanation and apology for publication in the Friday 11/28/2014 MCRC Briefs.

Respectfully yours - A. J. LaFaro, Chairman, Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC)

·       Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chair Steve Churcri: At this time of Thanksgiving we pause to count our blessings. The freedom of this great country in which we live. It's opportunity for achievement. Our cherished family and friends.  I am deeply honored and thankful for the opportunity to serve the people of District 2 and, as the year comes to a close, look forward to the New Year and the opportunities that lie ahead. May you enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving.   602-506-7431.

·       Congressman David Schweikert: Happy Thanksgiving from Team Schweikert!   Thank you to the team who joined us walking in the Fountain Hills Parade this morning!

·        Phx City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: I hope you have a great time with family this Thanksgiving. I enjoy this time of year very much because it's a time for family to come together and give thanks to the important things in life. Please pray for those families missing loved ones over seas serving our nation. Our men and women of the military make great sacrifices to defend our freedoms, even on Thanksgiving. My best to you and your family,

·       Congressman Paul Gosar:  During this Thanksgiving holiday, odds are that you will probably be asked the preverbal question “What are you thankful for?” This question always seems to come up at dinner tables, churches and family gatherings this time of year but quite frankly, I haven’t heard many positive responses lately.  Forgive me if that sounds cynical, but this year I couldn’t help from thinking about all of the things that I am NOT thankful for. I know that seems very pessimistic, but hear me out. Our country is currently facing serious challenges that should concern us all. I am not thankful for the high unemployment rate and the jobless numbers affecting millions of Americans. I am not thankful for the challenges facing our VA system and the lack of quality care for our nation’s veterans. I am not thankful for the ongoing violence in the Middle East and the spread of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. But while dwelling on all of these problems, I happened to come across a story about the reality of the horrific conditions the early Pilgrims faced, the same Pilgrims which are the origins of the holiday we celebrate today.  They faced famine, disease and brutal winter weather resulting in countless deaths. They too had much NOT to be thankful for. Yet despite these seemingly insurmountable challenges, the early settlers did not give up on their faith in God or on their fundamental principles of hard work and determination which laid the foundation for this great country that we all love today. They still found time to gather together and give thanks. So while there might be a lot of things we are NOT thankful for, our Pilgrim forefathers remind us of all the blessings we may take for granted. Every generation of Americans has faced challenges that threatened their way of life. We are no exception. But we should remember and be grateful for the brave Americans that have come before us and built a nation endowed with liberty, justice and a Republic to defend these ideals. If we follow their lead and never abandon our core principals, I am confident that we too can overcome our own challenges and leave a brighter future for our children. From my family to yours—may you have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

·       Arizona Project Chairman Ron Ludders: Perhaps I'm getting old, sentimental, or just plain beginning to "get it!"  I used to call it "Turkey Day", "T-Day" and even "Football Thursday" but some where I began to get-it.  It's Thanksgiving day and that should have a very special meaning for all of us.  I'm glad to live in a county that allows us to worship the Lord, creator of all things.  In the middle-east, you could be beheaded if you do not conform to the religion du jour.  I'm thankful that I'm a Child of God.  I'm eternally grateful for having the Best Parents in the whole world and having God's trust to raise a family.  And believe it or not, I'm thrilled to be an American.  Being an American is Not about politics, it's about the personal and economic freedom for founders envisioned and fought for.  I'm thankful I am able to stand up for my beliefs, be critical of government gone wrong and continue to work to make America an even better country.  I love the folks whose lives I have been honored to know, I pray for our nation, for you and those who protect our way of life. Yes it's Thanksgiving, with all its wonderment and remembrance of those who went on before us.  We are truly a Blessed people so please take the time this Thursday to reflect, tell someone you love them and mean it.  I'm thankful to walk amongst all of you.

·       Speaker of the House Andy Tobin and fellow House Republicans are strongly urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reconsider its proposal to regulate carbon emissions from existing power plants in Arizona. “The proposed rule is seriously flawed,” said Tobin. “It does not properly assess Arizona’s current energy portfolio and transmission infrastructure, and wrongly assumes that natural gas can easily replace Arizona’s reliance on low-cost, highly reliable coal resources.” In a letter to the EPA dated Nov. 26, 2014, Tobin, Rep. Frank Pratt - who chairs the House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee – and a number of other House Republicans asked the EPA to reconsider its proposed rule under Section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act.The letter highlights that Arizona has been a leader in developing carbon-free and low-carbon energy resources, increasing carbon-free electric generation to more than 36 percent of Arizona’s entire energy portfolio. The letter also poses a number of questions to the EPA that members believe the Agency has not answered. See entire letter at, under the section titled House Republicans.

·       MCRC Treasurer Candidate David Ludwig: I am not on anyone’s slate.  I am running for re-election for MCRC Treasurer, but independently.  Tyler Bowyer’s slate has said they endorse me, but I am not on their slate.  I truly appreciate their endorsement and support. I have asked them to significantly reduce my presence in any of their slate pieces to simply assure voters that they have not neglected the Treasurer position, but rather proactively support an independently running candidate. I apologize for the confusion. Please contact me with any questions. -  David S. Ludwig, MCRC Treasurer, 602-361-9249
