·       This Coming Tuesday, Veteran’s Day, Simon & Schuster will publish Sen John McCain’s latest book, Thirteen Soldiers, written with Mark Salter. The book tells the remarkable stories of one U.S. solider from each of America’s 13 major military conflicts – from the Revolutionary War though the Iraq War. From Simon & Schuster: Thirteen Soldiers tells the stories of real soldiers who personify valor, obedience, enterprise, and love. You’ll meet Joseph Plumb Martin, who at the tender age of fifteen fought in the Revolutionary War; Charles Black, a freeborn African American sailor in the War of 1812; and Sam Chamberlain, of the Mexican American War, whose life inspired novelist Cormac McCarthy. Then there’s Oliver Wendell Holmes, an aristocratic idealist disillusioned by the Civil War, and Littleton “Tony” Waller, court-martialed for refusing to massacre Filipino civilians. Each account illustrates a particular aspect of war, such as Mary Rhoads, an Army reservist forever changed by an Iraqi scud missile attack during the Persian Gulf War, and Monica Lin Brown, a frontline medic in rural Afghanistan who saved several lives in an ambushed convoy. From their acts of self-sacrifice to their astonishing bravery, these thirteen soldiers embody the best America has to offer. About the authors

McCain served in the US Navy from 1954 until 1981, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona in 1982 and to the Senate in 1986. He was the Republican Party’s nominee for president in the 2008 election. He is currently serving his fifth term in the Senate. Mark Salter is the author, with McCain, of several books, including Faith of My Fathers. He served on McCain’s staff for 18 years. This week McCain will be doing events in NYC, DC, Chicago and Arizona discussing the book: McCain’s book scheduled:

o   NYC – Mon, Nov 10: book discussion, moderated by CBS News’ Bob Schieffer. 7:30-9pm – info here.

·       Obama-Mocked-Front-Page-Major-Newspaper   The day after the elections, the NY Post ran a front page cover openly mocking Obama. Since Republicans have now taken control of Congress, the headline that ran said “STRIPPED!”This was both figurative and literal. People can now see through Obama’s lies — therefore, “the emperor has no clothes.” At the same time, Obama has now been stripped of power.

·       Feeling Emboldened By Tuesday, ‘Maverick’ Decides To Run Again  the down side of the big win?   Sigh….  It goes like this:  If the Republicans had failed to take the Senate on Tuesday, McCain would probably have retired. He simply wouldn’t have wanted to hang around as an elderly-and-powerless minority member. Now, it looks like he’s changed his mind.

·       Floating Around The Net: This Sounds About Right.

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House.

One is from Chicago , another is from Kentucky , and the third is from New Orleans .

All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The New Orleans contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil."Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $9,000.  That's $4,000 for materials, $4,000 for my crew and $1,000 profit for me."

The Kentucky contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $7,000.That's $3,000 for materials, $3,000 for my crew and $1,000 profit for me."

The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$27,000."

"Incredulous!" says the official, "You didn't even measure like the other guys. How did you come up with such a high figure?

"The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$10,000 for me, $10,000 for you, and we hire the guy from Kentucky to fix the fence."

"Done!" replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how the Government Stimulus plan worked.
