·       Governor Jan Brewer today received the initial report from her Council on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response. Established by Executive Order on October 21, the Council was charged with reviewing the state’s current plans for managing infectious disease, and submitting to the governor findings and recommendations for improving preparedness and response should an incidence or outbreak occur in Arizona. “The Council’s report gives a good indication that Arizona is well prepared to deal with infectious disease,” said Governor Brewer.  “I commend the Council for working expeditiously on this important public health and safety matter. I will thoroughly consider the Council’s recommended improvements to ensure that our citizens are properly protected.” Among its findings, the report highlights the need for collaboration in our healthcare communities as well as a clear communication plan, both of which will help our state respond efficiently and effectively to Ebola or other infectious diseases that may arise. It also outlines steps to improve our system of care and cooperation among private, public and non-profit organizations.  The 20-member council features representatives from various state agencies, local health departments, hospitals, emergency medical services and physician organizations.  The diversity of the council helps ensure a comprehensive review of the state’s plan. The Council will continue to meet on an as-needed basis to ensure the health and safety of Arizona citizens. Council’s report here:
