·       AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham Has Extended The By-Laws Committee Until Dec 31. In response to inquiries about the resolutions committee that will be chaired by Ray Sweeney. The purpose of the resolutions committee is to make recommendations for the state meeting on resolutions important to members of our body. I've asked for volunteers and suggestions for this committee. As of right now, we have quality individuals who have stepped up to lead and join the committee. We also have a by-laws committee. As a practical matter, the by-laws committee will be working to change the language in the by-laws in regards to the resolutions committee. The by-laws call for 1 member from each LD to be appointed by me, and a requirement that resolutions be submitted 45 days prior to the meeting. The difficulty of meeting this timeline is that folks need to be willing to serve, and no state chairman rules by dictate. Having asked for volunteers and suggestions for weeks, we didn't initially have the number of responses sufficient. Part of the difficulty is that our chairman have been involved in their own elections or are finishing their own terms. Also, the difficulty in meeting such a deadline is that the state committeemen in many counties are not even elected prior to the 45 day deadline. Imagine being a county who hasn't elected state committeemen and not having a chance to be involved?  This is something the by-laws committee is well aware of and it is a change we have asked them to consider for the upcoming meeting. The purpose of the early deadline is to give the committee and the state party time to review resolutions prior to sending the call letter. Therefore I am extending the deadline to submit resolutions to the committee to December 30th. This will give the committee a week to make final recommendations and submit them to the state party for printing to send with the call letter. – Robert Graham, AZGOP Chairman.

·       Congressman Paul A. Gosar’s statement upon receiving news that President Obama signed into law late Tuesday night the Congressman’s sponsored legislation H.R. 4924, the Bill Williams River Water Rights Settlement Act: “With the president’s signature, my sponsored legislation now has the unanimous support of every single member of both the legislative and executive branches of our government. Very few meaningful bills have ever seen this type of bipartisan support and I consider this legislation to be one of Arizona’s biggest victories this year. The Gosar-Flake bill is a win-win for all involved. This legislation protects private property rights, supports 4,000 thousand jobs (175 in Mohave County alone), facilitates an Indian water rights settlement and will result in a significant net water benefit to the basin and Mohave County. Incredibly, all this will be achieved without any federal expenditure. I want to thank the many parties involved, especially Senator Jeff Flake, for making this water rights settlement possible.”

·       Congressman Matt Salmon: Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) today issued the following statement after receiving word that Alan Gross was released from Cuba. “Like all Americans, I welcome the news of Alan Gross’ release from his inhumane and improper imprisonment in a Cuban jail.  After more than 5 long years, I am thrilled that he is home where he can reunite with his family and get the care he needs. As happy as I am for Alan Gross and his family, I’m concerned about long term ramifications to Americans and soldiers across the globe from yet another prisoner swap.  This move sends a message to every rogue government and terrorist organization that this Administration is willing to negotiate with them, even if it undercuts U.S. interests and values.  This puts a price on the head of every U.S. citizen. Furthermore, rewarding a country that has repressed its people, jailed dissenters of the regime and traded weapons with North Korea in direct violation of several UN directives, is the wrong course of action.  The people of Cuba have looked to the United States as a source of freedom and liberty. By taking steps that will only enrich and increase the power of the Castro regime, we are turning our back on the Cuban men and women who have been struggling for freedom and democracy for their country.”

·       Congressman Paul Gosar: Last week I participated in the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing examining Obamacare transparency failures and questioned the “architect of Obamacare” Jonathan Gruber. The hearing was further confirmation of the reality many of us have already known about the implementation of Obamacare. The testimony from Gruber confirmed that the Obama Administration, including the Department of Health and Human Services, misled, deceived and outright lied to the American people in order to take whatever action necessary to pass their partisan, ideological healthcare law. It sickened me to hear the testimony from the witnesses, and it’s sad that the administration played politics with our citizen’s healthcare. After questioning Gruber, I absolutely believe that he was caught telling the truth during the numerous videos that document his disdain for government transparency as well as the intellectual capacity of American voters. Gruber’s insights and elitism reflect a common trend seen throughout an administration plagued with incompetence and scandal, which most recently was overwhelmingly rejected in the midterm elections. The American people have made it very clear that they want an open and honest legislative process. Our citizens deserve the truth and House Republicans will continue fighting to hold this rogue administration accountable for their actions.

·       Senators John McCain And Lindsey Graham Today released this statement on President Obama’s plans to ease U.S. restrictions on Cuba and normalize diplomatic relations: “We agree with President Obama that he is writing new chapters in American foreign policy. Unfortunately, today’s chapter, like the others before it, is one of America and the values we stand for in retreat and decline. It is about the appeasement of autocratic dictators, thugs, and adversaries, diminishing America’s influence in the world. Is it any wonder that under President Obama’s watch our enemies are emboldened and our friends demoralized? Unfortunately, we fear the most damaging chapter to America’s national security is still being written. We dread the day President Obama takes to the podium to announce a nuclear deal with the Iranian ayatollahs which does little, if anything, to deter their nuclear ambitions, placing our nation and our closest allies in even deeper peril.”
