·       More Observations From The Jan 11 MCRC Mtg:

ü  Congressman David Schweikert had an impressive a set up with coffee/donuts.

ü  Teenage Republicans, the future of the party, were selling sub-sandwichs for lunch as their fundraiser.

ü  PCs were generous with their donations to help pay for the building rental, giving more than last year.

ü  Sheriff Joe was not a happy camper that he wasn’t included in the speakers line up.

ü  House Speaker Andy Tobin missed the MCRC meeting on Saturday because he was attending the Yavapai County Republican Mandatory meeting in Prescott.

ü  Activist Art Olivas was all over the place with his black cowboy hat, ear phone and signs.

ü  Volunteers sitting at the campaign tables outside got pretty chilly during the early morning hours.

ü  With 711 proxies registered, the credentials table folks were kept busy getting everyone processed before the gavel dropped at 9 am.  They were there bright and early, for pre-meeting training… and did it with a smile.

ü  Congressman Matt Salmon said he could have used more than his allotted five minutes – just talking about the Obama administration.  He noted that the four Republican Arizona House members are like a “band of brothers” in their voting. He pointed out that Attorney General Eric Holder can’t find time to investigate the Benghazi deaths, but immediately went after Chris Christie’s  Bridge-gate incident.  – Editor Frosty Taylor

·       Put American Back to Work: NRSC Petition - Just recently, President Obama noted that "the unemployment rate has steadily fallen to its lowest point in five years." You'll hear this number a lot more often from Democrats as they try to earn your vote in November. If only this number accounted for the millions of Americans he's left behind. When President Obama took office, the average length of unemployment was 20 weeks.  Today it is 37 weeks.  This is Obama's America. He's hoping to use the next two years to pass trophy legislation - not help the millions of Americans who are still hurting from the uneven, unsustainable economy he's ignored.  Sign our petition to tell Democrats to put Americans back to work.

AZGOP

·        Top Democrats In Arizona Continue To Disenfranchise Voters -  Goddard’s Bullying Latest Proof That Democrats Actively Suppressing Own Voters: Robert Graham, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, warned that Arizona’s top Democrats are continuing to prevent registered Democrat and Independent voters from voting for their party's nominees for public office.  Graham previously pointed out the Democrats have only a single candidate interested in running for Governor and just one candidate for each of the other top statewide offices, evidence that the Democrat Party seems determined to suppress voter choice in primary elections. Arizona Republicans, in contrast, have at least six gubernatorial candidates and multiple candidates seeking each of the state’s other top elected positions.

Last week Democrat Terry Goddard, who was unsuccessful in his three prior campaigns for the state’s top elected job, announced he is now trying to become Arizona's Secretary of State, although there is already a prominent declared candidate for that office.

An Arizona Republic reporter Yvonne Wingett Sanchez (@yvonnewingett) used Twitter recently to note that Goddard met with that candidate, and it appears Goddard tried to bully her into getting out of the race because he wanted to avoid competition for the nomination. The reporter wrote that the meeting between the two Democrat rivals was “tense” and that Goddard would file his candidacy in a “couple weeks” — likely in order to leave her some time to decide to exit the race.

“Working behind the scenes like this to clear the field and prevent voters from having their voices heard at the ballot box is a disservice to voters and offensive to the public," said Arizona Republican Party Chairman Robert Graham. “Democrat party cronies continue to make their backroom deals and then foist their decisions upon the electorate, leaving their voters disenfranchised with no role or say in their party’s nominations.”

Graham previously brought to light the Democrats’ single candidate for Governor and other top statewide offices, noting the trend is a repeat of the 2012 U.S. Senate race. In that election, multiple Democrats interested in seeking the party nomination in the primary were pushed aside after President Obama phoned Richard Carmona and encouraged him to run for Senate. The Democrat field promptly cleared away, although Carmona was later defeated by Jeff Flake in the general election. Flake had just won a high-profile, high-turnout Republican primary.

Democrat turnout in Arizona's 2012 primary was approximately 36 percent while GOP turnout in the primary was 48 percent. Contact: Tim Sifert 602-315-5590   tsifert@azgop.org
