·       Congressman David Schweikert: As you probably know, our national debt is now over $17 trillion and growing everyday. However, once you factor in unfunded liabilities, the federal government and by extension, taxpayers, are on the hook for over $200 trillion. It's time for Congress and the President to get serious about our long-term debt. Since first taking office in 2011, one of my top priorities has been to bring down the size and cost of the Federal government so we can pay down the debt and protect our economic future. Last week, I joined my colleagues in support of a budget resolution that would balance our federal budget in less than a decade. Personally, I believe this is still too long, but after years of out of control spending and debt, it's a good start. Unless we get our spending problem under control and stop borrowing trillions of dollars, our children and grandchildren will be saddled with a burden that will be unsustainable and devastate their long-term economic future.
