·       Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Frank Riggs:  response to remarks attributed to U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) at a March meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which Feinstein is a senior member. "Senator Feinstein's disrespectful suggestion that veterans should be checked for post-traumatic stress or some other mental disorder before they can own a semi-automatic firearm is an insult to our country's military veterans," said Riggs, a veteran himself of the U.S. Army. "I don't know what's worse: Feinstein's contempt of veterans or her continued attempts to limit, if not eviscerate altogether, the constitutional rights of law abiding gun owners.  The bitter irony of Feinstein's remarks is that so many Americans who have served in the military have given their lives to protect our constitutional freedoms and individual liberties like the 2nd Amendment." Riggs concluded, "I served in Congress from the same state as Sen. Feinstein and constantly fought her attempts to expand the power, size, scope and reach of the federal government.  Her comments reflect the same mindset that candidate Barrack Obama expressed in San Francisco, Feinstein's home town, mocking Americans for 'clinging to their guns and religion.'  Intellectual elites like Dianne Feinstein may disdain and distrust veterans but public opinion surveys consistently show that Americans have the highest admiration for all-volunteer military, which also happens to be the best firearms training institution in the world."

·       HB 2058, sponsored by Rep. John Kavanagh, would limit the amount of compensation that is counted towards calculating a public employee’s benefits package.  The practice of inflating benefits in this manner, known as “pension spiking,” has contributed to bankrupting cities across the country.  HERE

·       HB 2328 would help children get into independent schools by lowering the requirements for displaced or disabled students to get school choice scholarships from student tuition organizations.   HERE

·       Victory On AFP-Arizona Priority Bills:

·       HB 2377, sponsored by Rep Justin Olson, protects Arizonans from falling victim to a hidden “inflation tax.”  Arizona now joins the many other states that index tax brackets for inflation, so now Arizonans will be protected against being bumped into higher tax brackets when they receive a cost of living increase. Gov Jan Brewer signed this bill into law on Fri, April 11.

·       SB 1413, sponsored by Sen Steve Yarbrough and one of Brewer’s top priorities this session, eliminates the sales tax on energy that manufacturers consume. This broad-based tax relief helps make Arizona an attractive place to bring business and jobs — and will allow our state to compete for the same type of economic growth seen in states like Texas. Brewer signed this bill into law on Fri, April 11.

·        HCR 2005, sponsored by Rep Phil Lovas, will allow Arizona voters to determine on the November 2014 ballot whether terminally ill patients can have access to investigational medical products that may save their lives. A key victory for healthcare freedom, the bill passed the Senate on Tuesday and has been transmitted to Secretary of State Ken Bennett for placement on the ballot.

·       AFP-AZ Priority Bills Waiting on Gov. Brewer’s Signature:

·       HB 2139, sponsored by Rep. Warren Petersen, would expand the eligibility pool for Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Accounts to include the siblings of current or former recipients of the scholarship.

·       HB 2150, sponsored by Rep. Sonny Borrelli, would allow the children of fallen members of our armed forces to access the Empowerment Scholarship Account program.

·       HB 2260, sponsored by Rep. Tom Forese, would establish a Small Business Bill of Rights to protect business owners from being bullied by overly aggressive regulatory agencies.

·       HB 2367, sponsored by Speaker Andy Tobin, would require the director of Arizona’s Medicaid program to request annual waivers from the federal government — including a limit on the amount of total time an able-bodied adult can stay in the system.

·       HB 2508, sponsored by Rep. Phil Lovas, would ensure that those seeking to be Obamacare “navigators” are properly vetted and undergo criminal background checks before they are allowed access to personal information about Arizona health care consumers.

·       SB 1048, sponsored by Sen. Steve Yarbrough, would establish an individual income tax credit for the pro-rata amount of contributions businesses make to student tuition organizations (STOs).  This would be a major boon to the school choice movement and allow make it easier for businesses to support student scholarships.
