·       If You Have Questions About The “Mail-In Ballots Only Cities” see the 8-18-14 issue of the MCRC Briefs at http://archives.mcrcbriefs.org/  where the Maricopa County Elections Dept answers numerous questions posed by MCRC Chairman A.J. LaFaro.

·       Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus today announced that the RNC raised $8.4 million in July. The RNC has raised $140.3 million for the 2014 cycle thus far and has $13.9 million cash on hand. “With 76 days until Election Day, the RNC is in a strong financial position to continue giving our candidates the support they need to win in November. As always, I want to thank all of our donors and investors—including first-time donors and long-time supporters—for putting their trust in the RNC. We’re spending every dollar carefully to ensure maximum impact. So far this year, we’ve invested over $49 million toward helping our candidates win, and we expect to surpass $90 million. This cycle, we began making long-term investments in our party infrastructure. That included overhauling our data, digital, and technology operation and deploying community-based staff to engage with voters full-time where they live, work, and worship. We’ve seen this work pay dividends already, and with continued work and investment, we expect a Republican victory in November. The Obama-Reid agenda has made life harder for Americans, and Republicans up and down the ballot offer a clear alternative. Republicans will fight for jobs, affordable energy, better healthcare, improved schools, and personal freedom.
Fast facts:

o   Total raised in July 2014: $8.4 million

o   Total raised for 2014 cycle: $140.3 million

o   Total cash on hand: $13.9 million

o   Percentage of donations $200 and under in July: 98 percent

o   Average donation in July: $60

o   Total Debt: $0

Over the past nearly-five years, The Post & Email has reported on systemic corruption in the Tennessee courts which maintains grand jury foremen for years as an assistant to the judge.  Criminal Court judges select the foreman “from wherever they choose,” causing him or her to carry out the judge’s wishes instead of serving as an unbiased member of the grand jury.

·       The JLBC Staff Reports Monthly To The Legislature On The Status Of General Fund revenue collections and other fiscal issues. This report can be found on the following link: www.azleg.gov/jlbc.htm/  Our report this month falls into the “good news – bad news” category. Revenues for July were down, but the revised fiscal year 2014 results are better than previously thought.

1. July General Fund collections continued the recent trend of disappointing revenue results. Revenues declined by (0.7)% and were $(34.5) million below forecast – which marks the 4th consecutive month of failing to meet the budget projection.

2. The July revenue decline was due almost entirely to Corporate Income Tax collections, which posted a significant decline from the previous year. The double digit decline posted in July continues a trend of 4 consecutive months where Corporate Income Tax collections fell below the prior year.

3. Recent information has allowed us to revise the FY 2014 year-end results. These results are better than previously reported – revenue collections were $28 million greater and expenditures were $(19) million lower than originally reported. This translates into a revised FY 2014 ending balance of $577 million.

4. The slightly improved FY 2014 results have had a corresponding positive effect on the FY 2015 and FY 2016 budget shortfalls projected last month. Even with the better FY 2014 numbers, however, the projected shortfalls remain significant. The FY 2015 shortfall is now estimated to be $(282) million, along with a forecasted shortfall of $(765) million in FY 2016.

5. The FY 2015 and FY 2016 estimates include the $320 million annual cost relating to the K-12 litigation ruling, which requires a “reset” of the per pupil amount prospectively to adjust for foregone inflation in prior years. It does not include “back payments” for K-12 inflation payments which did not occur in prior years.  Sen John McComish, Rep Bob Robson and Rep Jeff Dial.

·       MCRC Chairman A.J. LaFaro reminds everyone, “the passage of Proposition 122 on November 4th is extremely important to help preserve Arizona's sovereignty and 10th Amendment rights.  Below is Russell Pearce's "Statement in Favor" that will appear in the November 4th Voter Information Pamphlet:

o   Yes!!!!  Proposition 122 To Appear On The 2014 Ballot Is A Critical State’s Rights Proposition: Delegates to the Constitutional Convention in 1787 feared an all-powerful federal government.  They had just fought a bloody war to free themselves from the tyranny of the English King, and they weren’t about to risk their precious freedom on far-away bureaucrats who might try to centralize power and take away their rights.  So, the Founders wrote a constitution that established a federal government with layers of checks and balances that would protect liberty and put chains on the power of the central government.  The federal government was prohibited from exercising any powers NOT delegated to it, and the powers that WERE delegated to it were few and enumerated.  Further, everyone understood that the powers held by the federal government were not powers that it assumed for itself but powers that were delegated to it by the states.  The states were to be a check on the abuse of power by the federal government – that is, the states were to be watchful and rein in the federal government whenever it began to usurp authority not delegated to it.  Little by little over the last two centuries, the federal government has assumed more and more power that rightfully belongs to the states, and the states have not performed their proper role of checking abuses by the federal government.  Onerous environmental regulations, control over education, using the IRS to target political opponents, mandating health care, writing laws via Executive orders, rewriting other laws passed by Congress, and bailing out private companies are just a few examples, and the list goes on and on.  It’s time to recognize that a federal law that violates the U.S. Constitution is not a law at all.  Prop 122 will strengthen Arizona’s effort to oppose federal violations of the Constitution.  Vote “YES” on Prop 122.  -  Senator Russell Pearce, Former President of the Arizona State Senate, Former Chief Deputy for America’s Toughest lawman, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, and Host of “The Russell Pearce Show” on KKNT-960 “The Patriot” in Phoenix

·       Pinal County Chairman Seraphim Larsen is calling for poll watchers. Volunteers should contact him at Seraphim Larsen immediately.

·       At the request of MCRC Chr A J LaFaro, the Maricopa County Elections Team has developed an Online Poll Watcher (aka Political Observer) Workshop that Poll Watcher volunteers can watch prior to the Aug 26 Primary and Nov 4 General Elections. o   1.  The workshop takes a couple of minutes to load so be patient

o   2.  Once loaded, the workshop automatically starts and advances by itself

o   3.  Do not try stopping the workshop.  You might get a "script error" and the workshop will freeze up

If you have any technical difficulties or questions contact Daniel Ruiz II, Director of Public Affairs, Maricopa County Recorder’s Office & Elections Department at 602-506-1270 or druiz@risc.maricopa.gov  Poll Watcher volunteers need to contact their LD Chairmen and request LaFaro's original signed letter of appointment.  LaFaro requires all Poll Watcher volunteers be current elected or appointed Republican Precinct Committeemen. politicalobserverworkshop.htm  LaFaro thanks Maricopa County Elections Team Members - Daniel Ruiz II, Berta Ramirez, Linda Weedon and Kristi Passarelli for taking the time to develop this workshop. And he thanks the MCRC volunteers who are working tirelessly during this election.

WHAT CANDIDATES ARE SAYING:

Send to repcomm@cox.net or frosty@mcrcbriefs.org  Briefs does NOT endorse candidates, nor candidate statements. Statements longer than 250/300 words will be edited/condensed.

·       Scottsdale City Council Candidate Michael Auerbach; While my opponents roll around in the mud attacking each other, I am staying above the fray. Scottsdale needs an adult on council, not a candidate who engages in childish bickering and negative attack signs. Vote Auerbach For City Council Scottsdale. On Facebook at Michael4scottsdale or www.auerbachforcitycouncil.com

·       CD2 Candidate Martha McSally:  Washington has failed. Our unsecured border allows criminal gangs to traffic drugs, money, weapons, and people through our communities, putting our families at risk. It’s time for Washington to stop playing games. Make your voice heard. Sign our petition to demand Ron Barber & President Obama secure the border. It’s time we stand together for our communities. Thanks for standing with us as we fight for a safe & secure Arizona!

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Frank Riggs:  "I do not support gay marriage.  I believe in the sacrament of marriage between one man as husband and one woman as wife.  I also believe this institution is the foundation of the family and the basic building block of society and should therefore be protected in law as the only form of marriage that is sanctioned and recognized by government policy. As a U.S. Congressman, I voted to defend traditional marriage - and for the Defense of Marriage Act - in 1996.  I stand by my vote and will not support the legalization of same-sex unions in Arizona."

·       CD1 Candidate Andy Tobin:  Over the past 11 months, voters in Arizona’s First Congressional District have been part of the debate as to who should carry the banner for the Republican Party in November. My opponents and I have hit all four corners of the district, talking about a lot of the same things—reducing taxes, getting the federal government out of our wallets, working to replace Obamacare and fighting to make our border more secure. On Tuesday, voters will make a decision as to who will be the Republican nominee—I hope it is me—but if it is not, I will support whoever the voters in our district choose. We cannot forget that the overriding goal is to defeat Ann Kirkpatrick in November, but we can only do that if we work in unity with each other. I call on my opponents, Gary Kiehne and Adam Kwasman, to stand by this pledge: We will support the Republican nominee after Tuesday’s primary and work together to defeat Ann Kirkpatrick in November. On behalf of ALL conservatives - thank you for your support!

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Doug Ducey: Election day is almost upon us, and we need your help make the final push for Doug!  This weekend we'll be having a special “Get Out the Vote Weekend.”  We'll be making phone calls on both Saturday and Sunday in an effort to get the final word out about Doug before Tuesday's election. Please commit a couple hours of your time to help with our special GOTV Weekend. Just a two-hour shift can help us reach hundreds of voters.WHAT: GOTV WEEKEND (8/23 & 8/24)    WHERE: Campaign HQ – Reply for Details.   WHEN: Sat: 10 am - 6 pm, Sun: 1pm - 6 pm. Saturday we'll be serving food throughout the day—bagels and donuts in the morning, pizza at lunch, and ice cream in the afternoon.  Plus, every shift you volunteer will earn you a ticket towards raffle prizes— an iPad, gift cards, and more.  On Sunday, we will start making phone calls at 1 pm, and we will finish at 6 pm.  Those who attend on Sunday will also be a part of the raffle. If you have a couple of hours this weekend, PLEASE come out to help Doug.  It will make the difference in the race, and we cannot do it without you. Thanks so much and we hope to see you this weekend!  Please RSVP by replying to this email!

·       LD25 Senate Candidate Ralph Heap: Friday August 22nd is the deadline to mail ballots.  After that they have to be hand carried into the polls on Tuesday the 26th. Please encourage friends and family to get out the vote for Ralph Heap.  We are so pleased by the momentum and the excitement as election day draws near, but we need YOU!  Forward this email to friends and family today..... don't wait to get to the polls, vote early by mail. THANK YOU Heap for Senate! 480-825-7718 heap4senate@gmail.com
