·       MCRC Chairman A. J. LaFaro: Many of you, if not all, should have already received Arizona's General Election Guide: What's on my Ballot? It contains a wealth of information on the statewide ballot propositions and a "scorecard" section on the judges that will be on the ballot. Here are some links you might find useful - Info/PubPamphlet/cover.htm   and  www.azjudges.info  In addition, Karen Thomas from LD22 has invested a great deal of time, like she does every election cycle, researching the judges and sharing her thoughts. (Scroll down to Judge Recommendations) My thanks to Karen for sharing her research and thoughts on the judges.   -- A. J.

·       The Yellow Sheet Is Reporting That AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham isn’t happy about Maricopa County GOP chairman A. J.  LaFaro’s commentary inferring that Sen John McCain and moderate Republicans were seeking to purge the party of conservative PCs. In a letter from Graham to the state GOP’s Executive Committee, Graham reportedly admonished party committeemen to avoid “over-the-top statements,” in light of the upcoming Nov 4 general election.  “I want to stress that we only have 40 days until the general election and all internal party matters should wait until after Nov. 4th.” Last week, LaFaro filed a complaint with the Secretary Of State and the Clean Elections Commission, alleging that a political group called the Arizona Grassroots Action PAC broke campaign finance laws by failing to register as a political committee in Arizona and disclose its spending. See full complaint at http://archives.mcrcbriefs.org/  9-22-14 MCRC Briefs.

·       Yellow Sheet Also Reports The LD23 Republican Executive Committee has sent a complaint to Maricopa County Elections alleging that voters in three precincts within LD23 had received “deceptive mailings” prior to the primary.  County Elections is expected to respond to LD23 this week. See related stories at http://archives.mcrcbriefs.org/  8-9-14, 8-10-14, 8-12-14  8-14-14,  8-17-14 and 8-19-14  MCRC Briefs when similar reports were  also surfacing  in LD13, LD28 and Graham County.

·        Rep Steve Smith And Several Pro Football Legends will hold a news conference at 1 pm, Wed., Oct 1 in the Rose Garden at the State Capitol, 1700 W. Washington St, Phx, to support disabled veterans and their desire to lead as productive a life as possible following their separation from service. Smith will be accompanied by Pro Football HOF players Bobby Bell (Kansas City Chiefs), Joe DeLamielleure (Buffalo Bills),  Paul Krause (Minnesota Vikings), Jim McMahon (Chicago Bears) and wheelchair manufacturer Brad Soden, Founder of TC Mobility.  “The laws and rules enacted by the federal government can limit the ability of a disabled veteran to work,” said Smith. “We must get the Feds to review the disability rating process, annual income caps and other regulations that restrict disabled veteran employment. It is equally important that we make it easier for companies to hire disabled veterans.”  Smith will sponsor legislation next session encouraging the federal government to take action that will make easier for companies to hire veterans.

·       Flashbacks: President Obama’s puzzling claim that the Intelligence Community (IC) missed the threat of ISIS is even more bizarre given that Senators John McCain and Lindsay Graham have been warning about it for more than a year. It’s also increasingly clear that the IC issued clear warnings to the President as well… As an example, this is Senators McCain and Graham warning about the rise the “larger and more lethal” ISIS nearly a year ago, in an

·       Friday Evening On 3TV, Dem Gubernatorial Candidate Fred Duval admitted that his background as a special interest lobbyist is clearly not popular with Arizona voters.  Instead of answering legitimate questions about his career, however, he promised Arizonans that his lobbying days were over. “Let me put this issue to rest,” he told 3TV’s Dennis Welch.  “I’m not ever lobbying again.” “Looks like Fred DuVal is starting to feel the heat from voters about his career as a special interest lobbyist, but Arizonans are smarter than Fred DuVal gives them credit for,” Arizona Republican Party Chairman Robert Graham said.  “Simply swearing off future lobbying gigs will not atone for his dubious lobbying activities in the past.  When will he simply answer the questions about his client lists and how he peddled influence to Democrat governors around the country?"  For more info azgop.org/blog/

o   Comic Relief Brought To You By LD6 Rep Brenda Barton: I thought I would send you some comic relief during this crazy campaign time. Thank you for everything you do! Your support and encouragement is what pick's me up on those days I'd rather run screaming from my office! So, here's a recent list reportedly compiled by a popular TV host for the Top Ten Reasons some people vote Democrat, and I confess we didn't verify the author -- we just found it fun and wanted to share. And please keep in mind, I'm only sending this in the spirit of humor. I hope it gives you a chuckle.  Well... here they are:

o   10. I vote Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry as I please; so I’ve decided to marry my first cousin.

o   9. I vote Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon at 15% isn’t.

o   8. I vote Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

o   7. I vote Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

o   6. I vote Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. I am also thankful that we have a 911 service that get police to your home in order to identify your body after a home invasion.

o   5. I vote Democrat because I'm not in the least concerned about the millions of innocent migratory birds and wild raptors being clubbed by windmills or incinerated in flight by vast solar arrays so long as we protect all obscure and little known fish and keep them comfy (in spite of never having actually seen one).

o   4. I vote Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take away Social Security from those who paid into it.

o   3. I vote Democrat because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrat Party sees fit.

o   2. I vote Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

o   1. The reason I vote Democrat is because I think it's better to pay $billions for oil to people who hate us, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish here in America. But it’s OK to not care about the bugs, gophers or fish or other wildlife in China, India or Africa as long as it doesn't interfere with Free Trade

·       Republican Candidate Announcements, fundraiser, neighborhood walks and other events can be sent to repcomm@cox.net for posting in the Briefs.  In fairness to all GOP primary candidates, Briefs does not post endorsements, nor does it endorse any GOP candidates prior to the primary. See Briefs at Http://Archives.Mcrcbriefs.Org/

WHAT CANDIDATES ARE SAYING:

Send to repcomm@cox.net or frosty@mcrcbriefs.org  Briefs does NOT endorse candidates, nor candidate statements. Statements longer than 250/300 words will be edited/condensed.

·       CD2 Candidate Martha McSally:  Pima Medical Institute CEO Dick Luebke refutes a Barber ad that distorts McSally's record on higher education and falsely claims that she wants to "abolish the Department of Education" and "eliminate federal student loans and scholarships." "Ron Barber is desperately trying to twist Martha's statements because he has been completely ineffective at doing anything to help struggling students, and his record shows it. Not only has he failed to do a single thing to bring down higher education costs, including introducing no legislation as our current Congressman, he voted to raise borrowing rates on students, again following the party line instead of doing what's best for us. As a candidate, Martha has done more to find solutions to the growing problem of higher education affordability than Barber has in his 3 years in Congress," said McSally spokesman Patrick Ptak. "Martha brought together members of the local education community for a roundtable on making higher education more affordable," said Luebke, "Too often, politicians simply pay lip-service to addressing rising education costs. Martha’s already shown she's willing to roll up her sleeves and get to work finding solutions that will help students and families get ahead." On Sept 2, 2014, McSally held a roundtable  to discuss ways to make higher education more affordable. While McSally has worked with local education leaders, Ron Barber has failed to take any action to address the rising cost of education, but has voted to raise borrowing rates on students. Barber voted to allow student loan interest rates to increase: (H.R. 1911, Roll Call #183 5/23/13).

·       CD9 Candidate Wendy Rogers: I don't know how she does it, but this Saturday, Wendy was up early. She rallied the 35 troops assembled to go door-to-door, then rode off on her bicycle with Channel 3 News following her with camera in truck bed. After she was TV-interviewed while knocking 60 doors, she rallied the troops again. Then she worked at our campaign headquarters till 7 pm, according to Campaign Manager Martin Mastro. Sunday, Wendy hosted 10 people at her home and, as the mom she is . . . left me a plate of steak and corn on the cob in our office refrigerator for this Monday morning. This was Wendy's weekend of "rest". Wendy doesn't rest, she serves. America needs Lt Col Wendy Rogers in the United States Congress. With only hours to go, we’re still $2,546 away from our goal. If every person reading this email chipped in $25, $50, $100, or even $250 or more, Wendy will crush her goal by the end of today. May we count on your help now? As Wendy has said in previous emails, Kyrsten Sinema has completely failed to lead. Sinema doesn't know how to lead. She has never led. It’s up to us to provide Wendy the support and resources she needs to retire Sinema in November. Let’s finish strong and send Sinema a very clear message that Wendy Rogers has the broad support necessary to win.

·       Gubernatorial Candidate Doug Ducey: Last night, my opponent and I debated the issue of education in Arizona. I brought my message of creating opportunity for all Arizona students to the voters, and it's clear that message resonated. My focus will be on getting more of our education dollars into the classroom where they belong: supporting teachers and providing needed technology to our students.  Here's what The Arizona Republic had to say: “Ducey said…the state’s financial allocation to the schools is out of balance, and more money needs to go into the classroom and less into other areas, such as administration.  ‘We’re talking about space,’ he said, referring to his emphasis on finding the money to expand classrooms at in-demand schools.” (Mary Jo Pitzl, “Ducey, Duval Spar Over Education Funding, Standards,” The Arizona Republic, 9/29/14) If you missed the debate last night, you can watch a clip here.   Or watch the full debate on Fox 10's website.  I'm joining the other gubernatorial candidates tonight for the Clean Elections debate, where we'll be discussing a variety of issues. I'd encourage you to tune in to the live broadcast on Horizon, which will be broadcast around the state. Broadcast at 5 pm, PBS.

·       CD2 Candidate Martha McSally: I’m not going to hide the facts. Ron Barber, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama are spending $4,OOO,OOO to beat me. That’s $4,OOO,OOO to run dishonest ads, mislead voters, and ultimately beat me on Election Day. It’s simple - I need your help right now. I need resources to fight back against Ron Barber. You know Nancy Pelosi and President Obama’s Super PACs are funding his campaign as well. The odds may be stacked against us, but we’re making strides. Last quarter we outraised Ron Barber by $100,000 because of incredible supporters like you. I know we can do it again. But, we only have 2 days to do it. September 30th is my biggest and final FEC quarterly deadline. Can you chip in $100, $50 or even $25 right now so we can meet our goal? I need to raise $35,000 to beat Ron Barber and only you can help. Please contribute immediately - we’ve only got 2 days. Thank you for everything.

·       CD1 Candidate Andy Tobin:   The midterm elections are just a month away, but I wouldn't be emailing you if this wasn't important. This November, Arizonans have a chance to tell President Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi that we're tired of their liberal agenda. If our friend Andy Tobin wins his race to defeat Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, we'll be overnight delivering that message straight to Washington and the White House. Andy has just hours left to meet his final, most urgent fundraising deadline of the year. These aren't just arbitrary fundraising deadlines. At the end of this quarter, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will look at how much Andy Tobin raised. Take it from me: I know that we need strong conservatives like Andy in Congress. I know he'll work to reduce spending, limit government, and fight ObamaCare. But we have to help him win first. That's why your contribution to Andy's campaign before the end of quarter fundraising deadline is so important.  I'm looking forward to working with Andy in Congress. Let's all work together to get him there .  – Sen Jeff Flake.

·        Incumbent Congressman Matt Salmon: Believe it or not, but we are only 35 days away from one of the most important elections in our lifetime. It's the election that will determine whether we will spend President Obama's final two years in office with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in control of Congress, or with a Republican majority in the House and Senate. I don't have to tell you how high the stakes are. Under Obama, Reid and Pelosi's leadership, our government has increased its control over our healthcare, our children's education and our personal privacy rights. They've allowed thousands of illegal immigrants to unlawfully flood our communities, and they've shown no interest in securing our porous borders once and for all. In Congress, I've fought tooth and nail against their radically liberal policies. But, I can't continue this important fight without your help. With 35 days to go, I am asking you today to make a small contribution of $35, or whatever you can give, to help ensure my campaign has the resources it needs to continue fighting for you in Congress.
