October 13, 2014

·       ATTN LD Chairman:  As soon as you set your Organizational Meeting dates in Nov or Dec please sent the time, date and location to Briefs at repcomm@cox.net or frostytaylor@cox.net

·       Maricopa County Supervisor Clint Hickman was unanimously elected by his colleagues as incoming president of the County Supervisors Association (CSA) at the October 10, 2014, meeting of the CSA Board of Directors.  “This is a remarkable honor,” Hickman said.  “I am grateful for the opportunity to represent my fellow supervisors in this vital statewide organization and I look forward to working on behalf of counties throughout the state as the legislature begins its new session in January.”  As president-elect, Supervisor Clint Hickman will serve on CSA’s 2014-2015 Executive Committee, helping to develop plans and implement strategies for strengthening Arizona counties in state and federal policymaking.  He will serve alongside outgoing CSA President and Graham County Supervisor Jim Palmer, First Vice President and Coconino County Supervisor Mandy Metzger, Second Vice President and Gila County Supervisor Tommie Cline Martin, Third Vice President and Pinal County Supervisor Anthony Smith, and Immediate Past President and Yuma County Supervisor Lenore Stuart.   The official transition and passing of the gavel from Supervisor Jim Palmer to Supervisor Hickman will take place on Nov 20 at the CSA headquarters in Phoenix. CSA is a non-partisan, research and advocacy organization representing the 61 county supervisors leading Arizona’s 15 counties.  For more than 30 years, CSA has served as a forum for county leaders to address important issues facing local constituents and develop a proactive state and federal policy agenda. Hickman is a Maricopa County LD13 PC.

·       LD28 Candidate Shawnna Bolick: With the help of supporters and well-placed video cameras across Legislative District 28, our campaign team nabbed its first sign stealer. A Phoenix man was served with a summons last night from stealing several dozen political signs over the course of a 12-day period from a private property.  Video cameras had been deployed due to an exceptionally high number of stolen signs, especially from private lawns.  In Arizona, it’s a crime to steal signs (ARS 16-1019 – political signs) if caught and prosecuted. “I am absolutely appalled and shocked that some people have so little regard for private property and freedom of speech,” stated Bolick.  “Our campaign intends to identify and prosecute those who commit these types of crimes.  With the help of our friends, this individual will be going to court and paying a fine due to his repeated actions.” -  Contact: info@bolickforarizona.com, or cell 602-842-1912.  www.BolickforArizona.com.

·       CD3 Candidate Gabby Saucedo-Mercer needs volunteers and contributions to enable her to retired incumbent Raul Grijalva (D). There are more Democrats than Republicans in CD 3, so she must draw Independent votes as well as garner all Republican votes in the district, according to coordinator Andrew Costanzo. In addition to visiting them, her campaign crew is now contacting them by phone. Contribute at: www.saucedomercer.com.  Volunteers can reach MCRC’s CD3 campaign coordinator Andrew Costanzo at keepazred@hotmail.com or call 480-677-0697.

·       Buckeye Precinct Walk and Get Out The Vote - Walk with CD 3 Congressional Candidate Gabby Saucedo Mercer as we secure the vote for Gabby,  LD 4 Candidates Dr. Connie Uribe (AZ Senate), Richard Hopkins (AZ House) and SD 5 Candidate Mark Riddles,  Saturday, Oct 18.  Volunteers will meet at 8:30 am and walk from 9 to 12.  Meet at the Walgreens located at 25073 W Southern Ave. Buckeye, AZ 85326 (SE Corner of Southern and Miller Rd). With enough help we will finish Hopeville and Valencia Precincts; the weather will be cooler, so please join us.  Don't worry if you have never done this before, we will team you with someone who has.  Contact Andrew Costanzo, 480 677-0697 or keepazred@hotmail.com

·       The Coconino County Republican Committee Victory Office in Flagstaff is open from noon to 7pm Monday through Saturday. It's located on Woodlands Village Boulevard, next door to the Staples Office Supply store and across from Basha's super market. I'm proud to announce that in the past several weeks we have successfully placed 7,000 flyers on the doors of Republicans and Independents pulling Republican ballots in 26 Flagstaff precincts. We have designed and printed door hangers that look like sample ballots and list our local City Council Candidates, our LD-6 Representatives Brenda Barton and Bob Thorpe, and LD-6 State Senate candidate Sylvia Allen, and our CD-1 Congressional candidate, Andy Tobin, along with the rest of our State Slate. We have placed a large number of candidate signs in the Flagstaff area, and have already sent out two of four planned candidate slate mailings. We have also co-sponsored a local candidates debate and soon we will be placing get out the vote calls to those who have not yet voted their ballots, and those who will be voting at the polls.  - Joy Iris Staveley, Chairman Coconino County Republican Committee

·       ATTN: Candidates/LD leaders/Group Chairman:  If you have sent events or announcements to Briefs that have not been posted (except endorsements) or that I have not responded to, please resend them. Messages can be sent to repcomm@cox.net    frosty@mcrcbriefs.org  or frostytaylor@cox.net  If I do not respond with “thx” within 24 hours, please resend – using one or all of the above e-dressses.  I’d rather get duplications than not receive your e-mails.

·       Republican Candidate Announcements, fundraiser, neighborhood walks and other events can be sent to repcomm@cox.net for posting in the Briefs.  In fairness to all GOP primary candidates, Briefs does not post endorsements, nor does it endorse any GOP candidates prior to the primary. See Briefs at Http://Archives.Mcrcbriefs.Org/

WHAT CANDIDATES ARE SAYING:

Send to repcomm@cox.net or frosty@mcrcbriefs.org  Briefs does NOT endorse candidates, nor candidate statements. Statements longer than 250/300 words will be edited/condensed.

·       CD2 Candidate Martha McSally has released a new ad, "Committed," featuring the endorsements of Southern Arizona seniors who trust McSally to fight for their retirement benefits. McSally has shown a commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare for current seniors and preserving them for her generation and the next, even opposing her own party's budget proposal because it does not protect promises made to seniors. "Seniors know that in this race, there's only one candidate who's shown an unwavering commitment to protecting their benefits, and that's Martha," said McSally Campaign Spokesman Patrick Ptak. "Unlike Ron Barber, who has repeatedly voted to rob Medicare to pay for Obamacare and even praised cuts to Medicare, Martha will stand up for the voices of Southern Arizona seniors. She believes promises made should be promises kept, and that's why seniors from both parties are getting behind her."  McSally's new ad features Democrats and Republicans supporting her as the best candidate to defend seniors' retirement benefits. In July, McSally wrote an op-ed on the need to come together to find bipartisan solutions that will protect retirement benefits and preserve them for the next generation. Ron Barber, on the other hand, has repeatedly voted to cut Medicare and lauded cuts to Medicare in a 2012 debate, calling them "over-payments."  Barber voted against repealing cuts to Medicare contained in Obamacare (Roll Call #460, 7/11/2012, Roll Call #154, 5/16/2013).

·        CD9 Candidate Wendy Rogers: Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) visits Phoenix this coming Wednesday to help our campaign. Please join us this Wednesday for breakfast with Ann Wagner. Ann is nationally renowned for her strong pro-market and national security credentials. She has been a great friend and mentor to me. Her son is a West Point graduate and is currently serving as an Army officer. She and I share deep bonds, having sons who were military officers. Please click here to RSVP so our team can contact you with further details.

·       CD1 Candidate Andy Tobin:   Republicans are paying attention to our race out here in rural Arizona. They know that we have one of the top chances in the entire country to add a seat to the majority. We’ve got just 22 days left. I’m not stopping now, and neither can you if we want to defeat Ann Kirkpatrick. Please chip in whatever you can to help make sure we win in November. Message from Congressman Paul Ryan: Democrats in Washington are growing really nervous. They’re seeing the polls. Even more importantly, they’re seeing the great candidates we have running  across the country. Andy Tobin is one of those candidates. We have just 23 days left until voters head to the polls. That’s why your contribution   will help Andy Tobin fight back against Democrats' attacks on his campaign. Nancy Pelosi sees Andy Tobin for who he is - a conservative candidate who will fight for lower taxes, limited government, and a balanced budget. That’s why she and her allies have committed millions of dollars to smear his name and keep Ann Kirkpatrick in Congress. Andy is fighting back, but he needs your help. We can’t let the conservative message get drowned out in Arizona. That’s why  whatever gift    you give today to Andrhy’s campaign is essential to making sure we turn this seat red. I’m looking forward to working with Andy when gets to Congress. Let’s help him get there.
