·       In Analyzing The Straw Poll, outgoing MCRC Chairman A J LaFaro views Congressman Matt Salmon’s 106 votes over Sen John McCain’s 39; plus Tyler Bowyer’s election as the new chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Party over McCain’s reported choice - Lisa Gray - as a failed coup by McCain’s camp. Bowyer beat Gray 983-904 in a runoff when former AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey threw his support to Bowyer after losing the first round of balloting. LaFaro says McCain is “out of touch and should retire. He’s pathetic, old and vindictive,” referring to McCain’s alleged attempt to purge the Tea Party activists from the GOP ranks.

·       Congressman Matt Salmon recently introduced a Constitutional amendment that would impose universal term limits on both houses of Congress. Salmon was first elected to Congress in 1994 and served through 2000 when he stepped down to honor his personal three-term pledge to his constituents. Today, Salmon released the following statement regarding his resolution: “Since the day I first took office, I have advocated for universal Congressional term limits.  Now more than ever, citizens need to see accountability and responsibility from their elected representatives at all levels of government.  Sadly, many today don’t feel that their elected members of Congress are accountable to their voice, but rather to the voices of special interest groups. In order for the idea of a term limit to be effective, the limits must be universal instead of unilateral.  That is why I fought for term limits during my first tenure in Congress, and kept true to my own unilateral term limit pledge. It's also why I have reintroduced legislation in the 114th Congress to amend the Constitution and impose term limits on all members.  It is time for Congress to do our part to implement universal term limits and give the states the opportunity to exercise the will of the people.” Background: Salmon’s amendment would limit Senators to serving no more than two full terms (twelve years) and limit Representatives in the House to serving no more than three full terms (six years).  See full text of the resolution: SALMON_TERM_LIMITS

·       Tom Morrissey, Former MCRC Chairman Candidate:  “I want to thank all of you for your spirited and dedicated participation in the elections during our MCRC Meeting this past Saturday.  My sincere thanks go out to those of you who supported me and I am especially thankful for the kind words and support of our incredibly strong and highly principled sheriff, Joe Arpaio.   As our new County Chairman steps into leadership of our county party I stand ready to resume my role as precinct committeeman, state committeeman, and a member of the Arizona Republican Assembly (AzRA). I will work with other conservatives as we recruit precinct committeemen and committeewomen to join us in our quest to restore our party and our nation to the path to “American Excellence” and the consistent acknowledgement and inclusion of God in our culture.                                                                                                         I encourage all to pay close attention to what emerges in the form of the messaging and political speeches, positions and maneuvering in the coming two years. Please keep your eye on what is actually being done as your proof, when those we elect go about the job of representing us, ‘we the people’.  Be mindful of the stubborn fact that they work for us and not that we work for them.  If they do not do the job we elected them to do, then it is up to us to make certain that they are removed from their offices during the primary process, which should be a ‘closed primary’, by the way.  In the words of a brave patriot, uttered in the skies over Pennsylvania on September 11th 2001, ‘Let’s Roll’.  We have a job to do.

·       Newly elected MCRC 2 VC Aaron Borders: “I am so extremely grateful for all of those who voted for me in the first election and in the runoff on Jan 10. As your new 2nd VC, as I mentioned in my statement today, I will have an open door policy to every Republican in Maricopa county. It is my desire to be the best 2nd VC the MCRC has ever had. I look forward to building the party and winning elections, starting with turning Phoenix red in 2015. Thank you all again, I am humbled by your support, God bless .”

·       PC Art Olivas (MCRC 2nd VC Candidate):  I am being ask about my speech at the meeting. Did not read it all as I didn't get as much time as Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Elections have consequences. I do believe the PCs that voted or didn't vote will get what they deserved.    Here is my speech:   My is Art Olivas. But this is not about me. It is about us and our future. Most of you know me by my association with Sheriff Joe Arpiao, Russell Pearce, Andrew Thomas and Bill Montgomery. I did not come here to preach to the choir. You know what is wrong with John McCain, Jeff Flake and our Arizona congress men. They have given us Obama care. And our Vets are not being taken care of. John McCain, Jeff Flake and our Arizona congress men know and won’t stop illegals from getting better treatment than our vets who live out in the streets. You and I are forced to support illegals with food stamps, housing, education, and medical. Our vets get next to nothing. Now illegals get driver’s license. They will steal our identity and take our jobs -killing the middle class. Why has Obama's John McCain and his Boys in DC allowed this? How can they justify their actions? It now or never. We have to fight back. We must stop this none sense. We must take our party back from the kings and dictators. AJ LaFaro said we must purge the Party of socialist Republicans in name only. We are not afraid of John McCain and his Rinos! Are you? With your vote and the help of Jesus Christ. We can put the fear of God in John McCain and his Rinos. People we must go back to the Constitution. Follow the Bible. And practice the ten Commandments! So help us God. Thank you.”

·       MCRC 2 VC Aaron Borders: "I want to thank all of those who have put their reputations behind me with their endorsements. I can assure you, I will do all I can to be the most positive and productive 2nd VC the county has ever had. I will always keep in mind that you folks put your confidence in me and will work extremely hard to make sure your support of me was not in vain.”

·       Congressman Matt Salmon: Last week, I had the profound honor of being sworn in for another term as the United States Representative for the 5th Congressional District of Arizona. Although this is my fifth time taking the Oath of Office, I never forget the distinct privilege it is to serve you, and the major responsibilities this office holds. Over the past two years, we've seen an unprecedented shift in power as the executive branch usurps authority it does not constitutionally have in order to pursue ends against the expressed will of the people. As a member of the 114th United States Congress, my goals will be to defend Congress' role and stand up for our nation's government and the separation of powers our founders worked so hard to build. I plan to ensure that this House does everything in its power to reverse that trend, so we can get America back on the right track. It is truly humbling to think about the level of trust you have placed in me to represent you in Congress. It is something I pledge to never forget. I hope you and your family had a blessed holiday season and a Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing you in 2015.

·       LD23 Rep Jay Lawrence:   A few weeks ago, acting on a campaign promise I made to my district, I began the process of introducing a bill that would protect our voter registration process by indicating when a driver’s license was held by a non-citizen.  I, and several others contacted the Department of Motor Vehicles and were told that the licenses did not have any such distinction, so I began the process of writing legislation and meeting with various parties to learn more about the licenses and what we could do to help protect our voter registration process.  The good news is that contrary to what we were first told, Arizona’s drivers licenses actually do have a designation that indicates that the holder is a non-citizen.  This is great news for two reasons.  First, it means we have the protection we wanted.  Second, it means there is one less piece of legislation needed, and that’s always good news! It will be interesting to watch what happens next though.  When word of the bill spread, liberals in the media and the Democrat caucus in the Legislature rushed to call such a designation racist, divisive, etc.  In their haste to play the race card and get their faces on TV they cranked the rhetoric up to their usual irresponsible levels.  Now, lo and behold, it turns out that our licenses already have the designation, so what will they do?  My guess is they will claim victory, ignore the reality, and wait for the next chance to cry “Racism!” in the hopes of media coverage.  It will be very telling to watch.

·       Congressman Paul Gosar: This week began the 114th Congress and I am extremely proud and humbled to have been selected to serve as the Representative of Arizona’s Fourth Congressional district. On the heels of an historic election this past November, I’m very optimistic about the prospects of this Congress and believe we are in a good position to get a lot of your priorities accomplished. I will continue to deliver on the promises I made to each and everyone one of you. As many of you know, the first vote of each new Congress is to select the Speaker of the House. This important position sets the agenda for all legislation brought to the House floor. Being selected as the Speaker comes with an immense amount of responsibility along with sitting third in line to the Presidency of the United States.

Over the past few months thousands of you contacted my office to voice your opinion about the direction of House Leadership. The phone lines were burning up across Capitol Hill over the past few days. You sent a clear message to Congress that the American people are fed up with the status quo and have called for bold action to stand against the Obama Administration’s lawlessness. I share those feelings and that is why I was part of an honest discussion with my colleagues in the House about alternative choices to replace the current Speaker.

My vote was about fixing the legislative process. We promised the American people more transparency and more accountability from Congress in how business gets done in Washington. It is time that elected Representatives begin creating an environment where we actually deliver on the promises we make. Additionally, I firmly believe that leadership comes by listening to solutions, building a narrative, developing a strategy and implementing it. That’s how success is attained. And I know from that standpoint, Americans want and deserve to be heard. Concerns raised by me and other members were heard and will not soon be forgotten. I still believe that the 114th Congress can take bold action to address the serious problems facing our country. But first, we must listen to the American people and have the courage to fix our flawed legislative process. I am proud to be a member of the people’s House and will continue working with all of my colleagues to restore liberty and economic prosperity.
