·       MCRC Chairman Tyler Bowyer:  Yesterday, the Yellow Sheet reported a number of things about me. Some were factual, others were not. It reported:

1) That I believe in a new generation of Conservative Leadership.  Correct.

2) That I believe inside the Republican Party, we should live by Reagan's Eleventh Commandment: "Thou Shalt Not Speak Ill of Any Fellow Republican."   Also factual.

3) Lastly, Yellow Sheet parsed quotes out of context alluding to me leaning libertarian and supporting the gay lobby's equal marriage concept.  This is inaccurate.

What I had clearly told the reporter was that his question has nothing to do with the other questions in his interview. I told him directly and unequivocally that I believe in traditional marriage: one man, one woman. Period.

I also told him that I do not support the expansion of government in marriage and if government is going to continue to find new ways to tell citizens what it can or can't do in regards to religious liberties (which is happening in states nationwide,) we should support the Republican Party Platform principles of limited government by getting out of the government-regulated marriage business altogether.

I hope that clears things up and that we can send voters a clear message that we believe in pro-family ideals. Here in Arizona, I personally support the missions of the Center for Arizona Policy as well as Arizona Right to Life. As fresh leadership I hope that this will not be overlooked as new faces take positions within the Republican Party. I also hope that we can hold true to Reagan's Eleventh Commandment. As your Chairman, I will seek to uplift the GOP in every way possible and ask that our fellow Precinct Committeemen do the same. God Bless - Tyler Bowyer

·       A LD28 Reader Writes: “I was surprised to see that at least 2 of people who passed away in 2014 in LD28 were not mentioned on the In Memoriam list.  One was John Driggs and the other was Thomas C. Smith.  I am also a PC in Kaibab precinct and have been for many years.  Even when Tom could no longer drive at night I took him to our LD meetings. Tom served as our state Representative for 8 years and our state Senator for 4 years in the old District 26.  He was known for his honesty and integrity.  He also served our country for 24 years as a Marine and as a teacher and principal in the Scottsdale school district for 17 years.  Do you know who is responsible for alerting the Memorial’s chair regarding issues like this?  I hope that this won’t happen again. Thank you for everything you do.”   Editor’s Note:  Briefs posted a message several times prior to the Jan 10 MCRC Statutory Meeting notifying LD Chairs to send the names of PCs and activists who has passed away to the Memoriam Committee Chairman.

·       Thanks to LD 22 Sen Judy Burges and her staff, the Legislature Computer Services Department has scheduled a training session on how to use the ‘Request to Speak Program’  at 2:30 pm as part of the PCs Day at the Capitol session. This program gives your input directly to the legislative committee members. PCs need to sign up for the training at the registration table when they arrive on Jan. 15

·       ‘PCs Day At The Capitol’ organizers reports the three times as many PCs signed up for this session compared to last year.

·       Arizona Republican Assembly (AzRA) paid members can pick up their complimentary AzRA Polo Shirt at the “PCs Day at the Capitol’ Sign-In Table. The AzRA Board voted unanimously to provide an AzRA Polo Shirt to anyone who joins by Jan. 24, 2015. You can join Jan 15 and pick up your T-shirt, according to former Sen Thayer Verschoor. AzRA is co-sponsoring the ‘PCs Day at the Capitol,’ along with the Maricopa County Republican Committee.

·       Immediate Past MCRC Chairman A J LaFaro’s Jan 8 letter to Maricopa County Board of Supervisors (BOS) Steve Chucri, Andy Kunasek, Denny Barney, Clint Hickman, and Marie Lopez  regarding the Jan 7, 2015 BOS meeting:  “It has come to my attention there was a lengthy discussion at your January 7 meeting concerning the Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC)  Precinct Committeemen (PC) appointments I approved and forwarded to Maricopa County Elections.

I watched the video of the discussion. It is unfortunate Lisa James, Kim Owens and Kory Langhofer would attempt to mislead the BOS with their drama for personal political gain. I would have attended your meeting if I had known there was going to be a contrived issue and such theater. It is truly unfortunate Arizona politics continues to evolve into a web of deceit and a culture of corruption that Machiavelli would be proud of.

Given the misleading information some people made, I felt it important to set the record straight. In mid-October, 2014, I e-mailed each LD Chairmen their respective list of elected PCs asking them to review their lists and verify they were accurate in preparation for their Nov 15th through Dec 6th Organization/Election Meetings. The e-mails included the number of PCs elected, the total quota of PCs for each LD and a challenge from me to each LD Chairmen at the time to actively recruit PCs to fill their open positions. A few of these LD Chairmen accepted the challenge and began recruiting PCs so they could be reviewed and approved.

Since I issued the challenge then decided not to seek re-election, I felt it was my responsibility to approve these PCs and requested MCRC staff to prepare them for transmittal to County Elections using the County Elections procedures and protocols we have always used. The LD Chairmen at the time were involved and fully aware. My deepest appreciation for your unanimous approval of the MCRC PC Appointments  that were submitted. The procedures, protocols and the rule of law were upheld.”  See board/meetings.aspx (starting at 1:12)

·       LD13 Jonathan Lines of Yuma has not confirmed reports that he will be running for AZGOP Treasurer.

·       Reports That Timothy Lee,  AZGOP Treasurer For Eight Years,  will be a candidate for re-election on Jan. 24 also remain unconfirmed.

·       A Support Rally For All Law Enforcement Officers (in conjunction with the National Event) is scheduled from 10 am until noon, Sat., Jan 24 in front of the Maricopa County Sheriff Office Headquarters,  550 W Jackson, Phx, AZ.  They plan to line the sidewalk from MCSO to Phx PD at 620 W. Washington."

·       A Former Deputy Writes: “I've been reading about the support law enforcement event for the past two weeks. I have one concern.  A recent email suggested that law enforcement supporters should approach peace officers with notes of support in hand to give to the officer.  Officers are trained to watch hands because hands can and do kill.  Show your support for law enforcement but I would suggest not approaching them with something in your hand, especially given current events.  One might be surprised at their reaction. Just a thought. Thanks.”

·       A PC Submits Three Questions specifically for incumbent AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham who is running for re-election at the Jan 24 AZGOP Statutory meeting.  Graham’s responses will be posted in the “What the Candidate’s Are Saying” Section.

1.     Americans for Responsible Leadership – of which you were chairman - was involved in a lawsuit in California. What was the outcome? Did California drop the felony charges as compromise for the assessed $1 million fine?

2.     Americans for Responsible Leadership was one of the major funders for Chairman Ducey Vote No on prop 204 which would have made a temporary sales tax permanent and funded schools. Do you feel any remorse in being instrumental in depriving schools of the funds owed to them by the state?

3.     Americans for Responsible Leadership was traced back to a “dark money group” supported by the Koch Brothers; if re-elected will we continue to see dark money contributions as you have in your first term?

·       Attention AZGOP Officer Candidates: Briefs is posting reader questions for AZGOP candidates running for election at the Jan 24 Statutory meeting. Officer candidates are asked to respond to each question in 300 words or less.  Candidate answers will be posted in the What The Candidates Are Saying section. Please keep to the issues. Respond to or

1.     What are your qualifications to serve in the position you are running for?

2.     What are your goals, if elected?

3.     Arizona was one of only four states not to achieve an increase in Republican Legislators in 2014 despite the Republican wave across the nation. How do you plan to get more AZ Republican legislators elected?

4.     Precinct Committeeman numbers have DECLINED 30% in the past two years. How do you plan to increase the PC count?

5.     How would you go about closing the Primary to allow only GOP voters to vote? And what resources (funds, manpower) would you use to close primaries?

6.     Are you for or against amnesty?

·       LD11 Rep Mark Finchem’s first House bill honors the Fisher House Foundation, which provides short term lodging to veterans and their families at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment at a military medical facility. House Concurrent Resolution 2007 recognizes the 25th anniversary of the Foundation; Senator Kelli Ward is acting as the Primary Sponsor in the Senate. “We all owe a debt of gratitude to those who have stood a post in harm’s way,” said Finchem. “And I am grateful for the opportunity to honor an organization that has cared for veterans and their families for more than 25 years.” According to the US Government Accountability Office, veterans frequently indicate that they do not use Veterans Affairs Health Services because they live too far from the nearest Veterans Affairs Hospital or outpatient clinic; lodging costs are a factor in their decision.“We must also begin to marshal support for building a Fisher House in Tucson to support the Veterans Affairs Hospital there,” said Finchem. “Over the coming months I will work to find the funds needed to make a Tucson Fisher House a reality.”  Fisher House Facts

ü  More than 25,000 veteran families served in 2014

ü  250,000 veteran families served since 1990

ü  $282 million in savings to veteran families since 1990

·       Congressman Matt Salmon today voted in favor of H.R. 240, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2015, and released the following statement. “Underscoring our system of government is the idea that the Rule of Law is supreme.  The President violated that premise when he tried to rewrite our immigration laws and ‘legalize’ millions of illegal immigrants in violation of the will of the people.Today, we’ve taken our first step to stopping his unlawful actions by fully funding our Department of Homeland Security for the rest of Fiscal Year 2015, while removing all funding for this illegal and unconstitutional initiative.  Congress has the power of the purse, and I’m elated that the House has chosen to use it to rein in an executive who has clearly demonstrated his unwillingness to acquiesce to the will of the people.” Rep. Salmon authored an amendment which was included in H.R. 240 expressing the sense of Congress that the Executive Branch should not pursue policies that disadvantage the hiring of U.S. citizens and those lawfully present in the United States by making it economically advantageous to hire workers who came to the country illegally. The full text here: SALMONrevision11215154503453.pdf

·       Congressman  Martha McSally today voted to pass legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security through fiscal year 2015. The bill provides additional funding for Customs and Border Protection agents to do their jobs while improving security along our border. “I’m glad to see the House pass legislation to fund our homeland security assets and ensure those who protect our border have the resources they need. Improving border security is something on which Southern Arizonans can agree, and today’s vote gets us closer to that goal, but it is only step one. We need to continue working to address our broken border strategy. That’s why I’m working with the Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee to craft legislation that places more of our resources at the border and stops cartels, traffickers, and criminal organizations before they enter our communities. By refusing to work with Congress and acting alone on immigration, the President has set a dangerous precedent that threatens the very Constitutional principles and separation of powers on which our country is founded. It’s critical that Congress, as the direct representation of the people, stand up for those principles. Going forward, our focus needs to be on securing our border and revamping the legal immigration system so it is consistent with our economic needs and provides a way for people who want to come here to work hard and contribute a simple, fast, and legal way to do so.”

·       Sens John McCain and Jeff Flake today reintroduced the Keep the Promise Act of 2015, legislation which would prohibit the construction of any new Indian gaming operation on unincorporated land in the metro Phoenix area that is not contiguous to an existing Indian reservation. “We share the objections of many fellow Arizonans when we see attempts to bring Indian gaming to metropolitan areas that are on lands not connected to an extant reservation,” said Senators McCain and Flake. “The proposed West Valley Resort in Glendale, Arizona, in particular, has generated tremendous controversy and confusion across our state. As one of the authors (Senator McCain) of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and the Gila Bend Indian Reservation Replacement Lands Act, we can authoritatively say that Congress did not envision Indian gaming on the kinds of lands involved in the West Valley issue. We will continue to make this legislation a priority for Arizona and remain open to ideas from Valley and tribal leaders on ways to resolve the differences that exist on this issue.” Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) has introduced an identical bill in the House of Representatives.

·       The 2016 Republican National Convention Will Be Held July 18-21 In Cleveland, Ohio, according to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. "A convention in July is a historic success for our party and future nominee.  The convention will be held significantly earlier than previous election cycles, allowing access to crucial general election funds earlier than ever before to give our nominee a strong advantage heading into Election Day.” Priebus had pledged to move the national convention earlier allow the eventual Republican nominee to access critical general election funds earlier than previous election cycles.  This is a historic move that will give the GOP nominee a leg up on winning the White House. The next official step in the convention process will be the formation of the RNC's Committee on Arrangements.  Members of the committee are appointed by the RNC Chairman.  Until the formation of the committee, the focus will be continued fundraising and logistical efforts for the convention.

What are your goals, if elected?  My first action as your Chairman will be to initiate the necessary actions to close our primaries to registered Republicans only.  The first step will be meeting with Governor Ducey, President Biggs and Speaker Gowan.  I commit that I will carry out your mandate through all avenues legislative and judicial.  I do not need a committee to hear your voice.

Those actions will be followed immediately by the restoration of a Dodie Londen Campaign Center at the Headquarters.  That Center was paid for by Jack Londen and I will restore the faith he reposed in the Party by providing the funds to create this Center honoring the leadership of his wife.
