·       Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson passed the reigns of the Arizona Association of Counties (AACo) to Navajo County Attorney Brad Carlyon during the Association’s annual conference.  Johnson said, “I was honored to have been able to serve as President this past year. The 2014 AACo Board of Directors was made up of a great selection of elected officials from across the state.  With everyone’s participation, we were able to ensure that the voices of Arizona’s 15 counties were heard both at the state and federal level. During Johnson’s term as President, he traveled to Washington D.C. on more than one occasion to fight for Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding for Arizona’s counties.  Johnson will continue to serve on AACo’s 2015 Board of Directors along with Navajo County Attorney Brad Carlyon, President; Santa Cruz County Supervisor Manny Ruiz, 1st Vice President; Pima County Treasurer Beth Ford, 2nd Vice President and Maricopa County Assessor Paul Petersen, 3rd Vice President. For a  list of the 2015 county government policy proposals:

·       Attorney General-elect Mark Brnovich added three more staff members as he prepares to take office on Monday.

ü  Zora Manjencich  - Assistant Chief of the Child Safety Division. Manjencich spent nine years at the Maricopa County Attorney's Office handling high-profile sex crime cases in the East Valley. She once tried and convicted a child predator who was featured on America's Most Wanted and earned the Crime Victims' Rights Special Award. Manjencich most recently worked as a litigator at a local law firm. Manjencich is actively involved with organizations that advocate for children with both physical and learning disabilities.

ü  Maria Syms  - Legal Policy Advisor. Syms is currently a councilwoman-elect for the Town of Paradise Valley and recently earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. Syms also served as an Assistant United State Attorney in Los Angeles. She both enforced the law and saved taxpayer money by aiding in the dismissal of frivolous lawsuits. She has experience working as a Law Clerk within the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit where she analyzed and researched cases and legal issues presented to the court, drafted opinions and orders, and briefed a federal judge in preparation for oral argument. Syms also practiced law at a private firm in Hawaii, advocating for businesses of varying sizes.

ü  Jennifer Perkins  - Assistant Solicitor General for Attorney General Opinions. Perkins comes to the team from her role as Of Counsel at an appellate law firm in Phoenix. She spent five years with the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct as Disciplinary Counsel and Staff Attorney. In that role she investigated, prosecuted and provided resolutions in all statewide judicial misconduct complaints. She also served as as a staff attorney with the Arizona Chapter of the Institute for Justice for five years.

·       The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released draft flood insurance rate maps (FIRM) for Mohave County residents in Golden Valley, Mohave Valley and North Lake Havasu.  “These maps are important because once finalized they will determine what areas of the county are required to obtain and keep flood insurance,” according to Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson.  “These maps will be also be used by county officials and developers in helping to determine what areas of the county are a flood risk and what development can occur within those areas,” Johnson said.

·       With Flu Season Upon Us, Mohave County Supervisors Buster Johnson provides the following information: A recent study done by the Journal of Applied Microbiology found that the touchscreen on many smart phones can contain up to 18 times more bacteria than a toilet handle.  The study found that up to 30% of a virus can be transferred from the screen of the device to a person’s finger tips.  “We use our smartphones every day without even realizing the amount of germs that lay infested on them,” Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson stated.  “When someone touches the screen and then put their fingers up to their mouth and nose they are spreading these germs into their body,” Johnson continued. Here are some other tips for cleaning all your electronic devices:

ü  To clean corners and around ports, use lint-free foam rather than cotton Q-tips.

ü  You might consider purchasing an ultraviolet sanitizer. Violife makes a $50 cellphone sanitizer about the size of a coffee can. Just pop your phone into the dock and replace the lid for ultraviolet light to zap germs away.

ü  Using a can of compressed air to blow around ports and between keys on a keyboard will help maintain the look, performance and value of your device. This gets rid of dust and particles that can infiltrate and damage electronics.

ü  To repel germs, grease and pet hair from your laptop, there are antimicrobial and protective keyboard, trackpad and palm rest covers that are nearly invisible and washable.

ü  Washable screen protectors for laptops, tablets and smartphones are available from manufacturers such as Boxwave, BodyGuardz, iSmooth and Moshi at a cost of $5 to $40, depending on the size.

·       Andrew Costanzo - MCRC Second Vice Chair Candidate Answers Question #1: What are your qualifications to serve in the position you are running for?

I have been actively engaged performing the duties of a Second Vice Chair.  As a MCRC Executive Guidance Council Member-at-Large I fulfilled duties as assigned by the MCRC Chairman.  In 2014, I was the Maricopa County Coordinator for Legislative District 3.  The number one goal was to assist Gabby Saucedo Mercer to defeat Raúl Grijalva.  I engaged respective PCs, Republican Club members, the Republican electorate, volunteers for the respective candidates within the district (local to state level) to work together.  By maximizing GOTV efficiencies we were able to reach thousands of Republican homes.   We worked together as a team, reaching 10 times the number of voters.

Unfortunately, Saucedo-Mercer didn’t win CD 3, but she sure carried Maricopa County.  Through the hard work of over 100 volunteers, coupled with the determination of this principled candidate, her vote margin in Maricopa County swung 17% in her favor!

Our combined efforts assisted LD4 Republican House Candidate Richard Hopkins to overcome an almost 2 to 1 Democrat advantage.  LD 4 will now have Republican representation.  Several other Republican candidates will be better positioned should they run in 2016.

I worked through the ranks at the Legislative District level serving as Secretary, First Vice Chair and as Chairman.  I have a working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order, have created meeting agendas, and chaired meetings. My goal as MCRC Second Vice Chair is to build on the 2014 successes of CD 3 and to assist all willing Maricopa County LDs and Republican Clubs with the process.  I will remain always vigilant that the MCRC is a bottom up organization and mindful that I serve you the PCs. Respectfully I request your vote for MCRC Second Vice Chair.
