·       AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham:  Thank You to My Fellow Republican Volunteers! On Saturday our State Committee met and elected the leaders that will build on our 2014 success at the ballot box and bring us victory in 2016. Parralee Schneider was elected as First Vice-Chair, Gabby Saucedo-Mercer as Second Vice-Chair, Linda White as Secretary and Jonathan Lines as Treasurer. I am humbled to have been re-elected to serve as your Chairman for the 2015-2016 election cycle. The work of the State Committee of the Arizona Republican Party is of great importance to our overall efforts to increase voter registration and turnout, and select the best nominees to stand for election against our opponents in every office throughout the state. What we saw at our meeting was a high-energy group of grassroots advocates who are dedicated to the conservative cause and to victory for Republican candidates in 2016. It is an honor to serve alongside you. Again, many thanks to all of those who stepped up to compete for leadership positions,  and especially to the more than 1,300 state committeemen who were chosen to represent their districts at the meeting. – Chairman Robert Graham

·       Newly Elected AZGOP 2nd Vice Chairman Gabby Saucedo Mercer: “I want to thank all of the 673 State Committeemen who voted for me to be their 2nd Vice Chair at the Arizona Republican Party. I am overwhelmed by the support and the kind words from everybody. THANK YOU!”

·       AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham explains the significance of a number of Viet Namese flags displayed at the Jan 24 AZGOP Statutory Meeting in Tempe. Graham said, “From my view point (stage) there were both American and Vietnamese flags (hanging in the balcony).  It is common that the Vietnamese will display the South Vietnamese flag which symbolizes Heritage and Freedom…it is a way to support freedom and protest socialism and communism.  If they display that flag in parts of their home country they would be jailed.”

·       Responding To Reports that AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham and/or Sen John McCain had invited/organized the Viet Namese contingence to support Sen John McCain’s surprise appearance at the meeting, Graham said, “Reports are false that I or the AZGOP had anything to do with the Vietnamese group attending the meeting. I did not see any buses or group transportation.”  Graham said he “had no idea about the Vietnamese guests until they started to appear in the balcony.”  He wasn’t sure how many were in attendance.

·       Memorials Committee Chairman Ray Sweeney : “There Was A Solemn Aura Of Silence as those active and loyal members who have passed on during the past year were recognized for their dedication and selfless activism”  at the AZGOP Statutory meeting.  Those recognized include:

·       Three Resolutions Were Passed By AZGOP State Committeemen during their Jan 24 Statutory meeting

1.      AZGOP Resolution Chairman  and LD20 PC Ray Sweeney’s Resolution in Support of Exemption From Sales Tax On Food Purchased For Home Consumption, Prescription Medicine, Clothing, And Foot Wear”,  1-6-15-mcrc-briefs  passed by overwhelming voice votes.  Sweeney’s resolution had passed through the Resolution Committee and was placed on the agenda earlier this month.

2.     The original Maricopa County PCs approved “Closed Primary Resolution” authored by former MCRC Chairman A J LaFaro.  Supporters of LaFaro’s resolutions gathered nearly 400 signatures from State Committeemen from 12 counties prior to the State Meeting to get the original resolution taken to the floor.  The original Closed Primary Resolution originally passed by a 1,255 to 561 vote of the Maricopa County Republican precinct committeemen on Jan. 10. See full resolution 1-6-15-mcrc-briefs

3.     Sen Russell Pearce’s “Application for a Convention of the States Under Article V of the United States Constitution also went to the floor and passed.  The Article V Resolution is posted below:

Application for a Convention of the States Under

Article V of the US Constitution

Submitted by Russell Pearce

ü  Whereas, we have allowed Washington DC the power of ultimate rulemaking all in violation of their limited and enumerated limits under the Constitution and as a consequence, the states are becoming, the mere implementers of federal policy decisions.

ü  Whereas, we believe that it is the time for the state legislatures to use this Article V power to propose a group of specific amendments to rein in the abuses of power by the federal government.

ü  Whereas, the Founders of our inspired Constitution retained the power and duty of State Legislators to be guardians of liberty against future abuses of power by the federal government, and

ü  Whereas, the federal government has created a crushing national debt through improper and imprudent spending, and

ü  Whereas, the federal government has invaded the legitimate and Constitutional roles of the states, and

ü  Whereas, the federal government has ceased to live under a proper interpretation of the Constitution of the United States, and

ü  Whereas, it is the solemn duty of the States to protect the liberty of our people; Aritcle V is for that very purpose to propose Amendments to the Constitution of the United States through a Convention of the States to place clear restraints on these and related abuses of power, and

ü  Therefore the Arizona State GOP places this mandate on the legislature of the State of Arizona to Pass an Ariticle V Resolution that Arizona legislature apply to Congress, under the provisions of Article V of the Constitution of the United States, for the calling of a convention of the states limited Arictle V Convention in proposing amendments to the United States Constitution that impose  in clear languagge fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials,  judicial officers and for members of congress.

ü  Direct the secretary of state to transmit copies of this Resolution Governor, Arizona Speaker of the House and President of the Senateto and to the members of the Senate and House of Representatives from this State; also to transmit copies hereof to the presiding officers of each of the legislative houses in the several States, requesting their cooperation.

ü  Be it Resolved by the Arizona Republican Party that this Resolution constitutes a mandate to the Arizona State Legislature to pass a Resolution to bring an out of control federal government back into compliance with the founding principles and Constitution of this Republic.

·       Gila County Chairman Gary Morris - On Gila GOP “Outstanding County”  Award: Gila County had been a Democrat majority in voter registration since statehood. In 2010 Gila County was 7% behind the Democrats when new Republican leadership began an aggressive voter education and registration effort.  In 2012, Gila County crossed that threshold, and Republicans now hold a 13.5 % lead (December 2014) reflecting the evolving leadership, expanded registration efforts and greater participation of precinct committeemen.

The Gila County Republican Committee (GCRC) has integrated the Chairman of two Republican Clubs in the County, as well as the Tea Party President into the GCRC’s executive team to coordinate our efforts and fundraising. Thousands of dollars were raised and contributed to Republican candidates during the 2014 campaign season. GCRC implemented teleconferencing for GCRC business, I-360 training, door hangers, precinct walks and utilized phone banks to prepare for the campaign season. GCRC opened two headquarters (Globe and Payson)… perhaps the only county to do so. Globe now has a year around headquarters.

All these efforts contributed to an amazing 54.86% voter turnout for the General election in Gila County, the highest in the state (the state average was 39%).

The GCRC’s teleconferencing played an important role in coordinating the special election of Sylvia Allen to fill the vacant District 6 Senate ballot following Senator Chester Crandell’s death just weeks before the Primary. Teleconferencing and extensive phone bank gave Sylvia a 66.82% of the vote, carrying her to victory.

The Payson Roundup newspaper stated; “Almost all the Republican statewide candidates did even better in Gila County than they did statewide reflecting the growing strength of Republicans in the North County and the dwindling influence of the Democrat leaning South County.  Every single North County precinct went for Republican Dianne Douglas…Douglas won statewide by 1-2 percent of the votes, but by an 11 percent margin in Gila County”. (Douglas won by just 1.15% in the statewide vote).

Gila County voters gave Allen the votes to win. Gila gave Ducey 60.59%, Brnovich 59.48% and Reagan 58.60%, elected both Republican Representative’s, and Senator for District 6, and both Representative’s for District 8 and the first Republican Superior Court Judge in more than 50 years.    Gila County Chairman Gary Morris
