·       Attention MCRC and AZGOP Officer Candidates: Briefs will be posting reader submitted questions for the candidates who are running for election  as MCRC and AZGOP officers at the Mandatory January meetings. Officer candidates are asked to respond in 300 words or less.  Candidate answers will be posted in the “What The Candidates Are Saying” section. Please keep to the issues.  Respond to or

1.      What are your qualifications to serve in the position you are running for?

2.     What are your goals, if elected?

3.     Arizona was one of only four states not to achieve an increase in Republican Legislators in 2014 despite the Republican wave across the nation. How do you plan to get more AZ Republican legislators elected?

4.     Precinct Committeeman numbers have DECLINED 30% in the past two years. How do you plan to increase the PC count?

5.     How would you go about closing the Primary to allow only GOP voters to vote? And what resources (funds, manpower) would you use to close primaries?

6.     Are you for or against amnesty?

7.     How do you feel about “dark money” coming into AZ to influence elections?

·       Congresswoman-Elect Martha McSally joined Chris Wallace on Fox News today to talk about the need for bipartisan solutions in Washington and her priorities representing the people of Southern Arizona. McSally will be sworn in as a Member of Congress on Tues, Jan 6. See interview  HERE.

·       Congressman Paul Gosar:  As you know our nation has sent a message to DC with two historic wave elections. Our leadership in DC should be bold and determined. We need openness. We need fortitude. We do not need more status quo. We do not need mindless spending bills with no reforms attached. We do not need $1 allowed for the President to enact amnesty. I welcome my colleagues Louie Gohmert and Ted Yoho in the race for House leadership. I will be supporting the effort to instill firmness and discipline in our House and let the people know we have heard them.

·       Corporation Commission Bob Stump: Each of us at the Commission is looking forward to welcoming Justice Sandra Day O'Connor to opening-day festivities tomorrow morning. She'll be swearing-in Arizona's two new commissioners, Doug Little and Tom Forese, as they take their oath of office!

·       Activist Laddie Shane On Outgoing Gov Jan Brewer: “No matter what you thought about her politics, you have to admire her leadership and dedication. A mom that started on a school board went all the way to the #AZGov office. Thank you for your service Governor Brewer!”

·       Former Sen Thayer Verschoor: I urge you to show up in person for a public comment session and let SRP know it's time to end the subsidies that non-solar customers are paying for those who use solar rooftop customers, SRP's proposed rate amendments will continue net metering on a basis that more accurately compensates owners of rooftop systems with market-based prices. The owners of rooftop systems will pay for their share of grid costs though fixed charges and a “demand” charge that varies depending on the customers usage over peak periods. This rate design better aligns prices with the true costs of the service and sends price signals that empower customers to modify their power usage and reduce their electric bills. In this way, SRP is responding to technological advances that will provide opportunities for SRP to serve all its customers. You have two opportunities to make your voice heard in January:

·       Andrew Costantzo, MCRC 2nd Vice-Chair CandidateResponse to question #2:  What are your goals, if elected?  Should I be elected Second Vice Chair of the MCRC my goals would be the same goals I currently practice.

1 – Help elect Constitutional conservative Republicans who follow the Party platform.
2 – Recruit Constitutional conservative Precinct Committeeman.
3 – Outreach to Hispanic and African American voters.
4 – Improved communication and coordination between the respective candidates, LDs and clubs.

5 – Focus on strategic implementation, not just on the tactical.  Better planning archives better results.
6 – Be mindful that we are a bottom up organization, remembering that I serve the PCs.  --  Andrew Costanzo, MCRC Second Vice Chair Candidate   480 677-0697.

·       Arthur Olivas, Jr., MCRC 2nd Vice-Chair CandidateResponse to question #2:  What are your goals, if elected?   The Republican Party is lacking in active Black and Hispanic members. We need to correct this. We have seen this at all LD, County, State, and Mandatory Meetings. We need to walk our LDs and recruit Republicans of all colors. Now more than ever we need their strength to recoup our country – from our enemies, foreign or domestic. Illegals from all over the world are coming across our southern open border. I know Tom Morrissey, a retired United State Marshal, will support me on this. I also thank God for the Conservative Grassroots Leadership A.J. LaFaro gave us at MCRC. If elected I will follow in his footsteps. God will help us protect America - if, and I mean if - we fight to keep America Free! The only rights we have are the ones we fight for!!  A vote for me will work for you. – Arthur Olivas

·       Tom Morrissey, MCRC Chairman candidate -  Response to the Qusestion #1.  “What qualifications do you bring to the position of the MCRC Chair?” I am running for MCRC Chairman because I am a proven leader, who has already led the party at the state level through a tough, but successful election cycle. I will bring my lifelong commitment and work ethic to the Party. I have a wide base of support and the ability to attract and retain the very best of our members to put into place the necessary mechanism needed to win the upcoming elections. I have been told by many folks that I have a reputation for being fair minded and sensitive to all members of our party and to the community at large. Leadership is a glorious thing when all is going well, but a great challenge when there is turmoil within the organization.  We experienced unprecedented challenges during my term as Chairman of the AZ GOP and yet the party remained strong and viable and we won a great and historic victory in November of 2012.  I want to bring this experience and ability to lead during the upcoming presidential cycle in the elections of 2012 to the MCRC. I offer my experience, team spirit and energy to this leadership position at a time when we will need it most. This election cycle is our chance to right the many wrongs currently in place. We can do this if we all work together.   – Tom Morrissey

·       Andrew Costantzo, MCRC 2nd Vice-Chair CandidateResponse to question #3: Arizona was one of only four states not to achieve an increase in Republican Legislators in 2014 despite the Republican wave across the nation. How do you plan to get more AZ Republican legislators elected?   Due to the gerrymandering of the so called “independent redistricting commission” it is easy to perceive that the number of Republican and Democrat Legislatures at the district level are fixed.  This is not necessarily true.  What is true is that if you are a Republican in a heavily populated Democrat district you may get discouraged about the voting process.  In so much as you never win, why should you bother voting?,  thus creating a vicious cycle.  We need to give these disenchanted Republican voters a reason to justify the importance of their vote.  The Maricopa County GOTV volunteers in the CD 3 race helped provide some needed motivation by including our mission statement along with the candidate and proposition literature which we distributed in the 2014 election cycle.  We informed these Republicans that they can win.  We informed them that the Republican Party is alive and well in their district and we let them know that they could join us.  On January 9, 2015 Richard Hopkins will be sworn in as a Republican Representative from LD 4, a district which happens to have a 2 to 1 Democrat voter registration advantage.  We now have tangible evidence which we can present to discouraged Republican voters – they can win!
-- Andrew Costanzo, MCRC Second Vice Chair Candidate  480 677-0697

·       Andrew Costantzo, MCRC 2nd Vice-Chair CandidateResponse to question #4: Precinct Committeeman numbers have DECLINED 30% in the past two years. How do you plan to increase the PC count?   Recruit, recruit, recruit.  There is a lot of low hanging fruit ready to be picked.  Reach out to members of Republican clubs.  Set up booths at rallies (at one pro 2nd amendment rally, Dan Schultz and I recruited 17 new PCs, one of whom is now the Second Vice Chair of my LD 27).  I try to keep my eyes and ears open while canvassing.  Look for patriotic symbols and likeminded bumper stickers; these are good clues for potential recruits.  When a Republican or a potential Republican informs me that they are dissatisfied with the Republican Party because it is too weak, I point out to them that they can only fix the problems from the inside.  I collect email addresses and contact information, invite interested Republicans to their LD meeting, and maintain contact.  No one person or team will be able to build our ranks alone, this is a team effort and I am happy to pass along some of the recruitment “tricks” I have learned.  I have had some very wise mentors. -- Andrew Costanzo, MCRC Second Vice Chair Candidate  480 677-0697
