·       LD28 Rep Kate Brophy McGee has been invited to join the Morrison Institute of Public Policy’s Advisory Board.

·       Last Wednesday, Two Of LD28 Rep Kate Brophy McGee’s bills were highlighted by the Republic’s editorial board. See 2 common sense bills to keep kids safe

ü   HB 2166, mandates more openness, which Brophy McGee says is "key to solving the deeply ingrained problems of our child-safety system." Her bill requires detailed information about previous DCS involvement to be included in a public report following a fatality, near fatality or in cases of egregious abuse or neglect.

ü   HB 2640, is also a direct response to an identified problem. It has Gov Doug Ducey and Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery's support. This one is called "Angel's Law" because it might have saved a toddler from being battering to death.

·       Sen John McCain on President Obama’s veto of the Keystone XL pipeline approval bill: “It is extremely disappointing that President Obama vetoed the Keystone XL pipeline bill today, a negative signal about his willingness to work with Congress on important legislation over the final two years of his presidency. This bipartisan legislation that the President has rejected would create good-paying jobs for hardworking citizens, enable our country to increase its domestic energy supply and become more energy independent, and invest billions in the economy. While it is unfortunate that the President has acted against American jobs, this will not stop Congress from continuing our work to move the Keystone XL pipeline forward.”

·       Arizona’s Balladeer Dolan Ellis: I Have Retired From ‘The New Christy Minstrels’.  “Though I will dearly miss my NCM compadres, the time has come for me to stop traveling the nation and stay at home in Arizona to devote my time and energies to the many unfinished projects of my work as "Arizona's Official State Balladeer". I can hardly believe it, but I will turn 80 years old next month, and I have at least two more DVD's and a Christmas album to produce and record, yet. Also, I have a mountain of digitizing of over 50 years of 35mm photography, from my many adventures throughout the state...much of which document people, places, and things that are long gone. I will also enjoy being able to spend more time with Merilee, traveling the state and camping in our motor home. (No more tents and sleeping in the back of my Jeeps, thank you.) I will also enjoy having more time to visit my "all grown up sons" and my wonderful grand kids. As for the future of my music...I can feel it in my bones that "the best is yet to come", so stay tuned, folks. The Balladeer is far from done. I'm just shifting into a lower gear for better traction. Onward and upward!  Ellis has been the Arizona Balladeer for over 40 years.

·       Supt of Public Instruction Diane Douglas reiterates her “support for all parental options in education, including charter, private, religious schools, home schooling, distance learning, open enrollment and traditional public schools. Each parent or guardian should have as many educational opportunities as possible for their child, and each of those options should be easily accessible, have high standards, and provide variety so that children can be taught in the most advantageous environment based on their individual needs,” she said.

Douglas expressed concern with the state trying to pick winners and losers through the budget process while dollars are so scarce.  “I strongly support helping excelling charter schools find more reasonable financing for their capital needs and enabling them to use open space at traditional public schools.  I commend Governor Ducey for his innovative proposals,” the Superintendent continued. “However, I have concerns that the $21.5 million Student Success Funding used for classroom spending in the most successful charter schools and traditional public schools has been eliminated after one year.

“The problem is that starting a program for one year to reward success, then removing the funding, not only discourages districts from depending on such programs, but also weakens the effectiveness of future programs if enacted. In current times with such tight budget issues, it is difficult to start new initiatives without removing others.  However, government has a poor history of picking the correct winners and losers,” Douglas said. “Optimally, each child would have the proper amount of funding attached to them and parents could choose wherever was best for their child.  In the current complicated funding system, it is difficult or impossible for this to happen.  Only with new funding over time as the economy grows can we make the strong changes needed to properly level the playing field for all education options,” Douglas said.

·       Sen John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will discuss efforts to reform health care for veterans with Pete Hegseth, CEO of Concerned Veterans for America, at the “Fixing Veterans Health Care Summit”  Thurs., afternoon,  Feb 25 in Washington, DC.

·       A fundraiser reception is scheduled for Sen John McCain’s re-election at 5:30 pm, Fri., March 6 at the home of Shannon and Max Fose, 7130 N Central Ave., Phx 85020. Business casual attire. $250 – supporter. $500 – friend. $1,000 – co host. Co- Co-hosts: Lisa Atkins, Scott Celley, Katie Cobb, Bert Coleman, Chris Dahm, Paul Hickman, Aimee and Billy Lally, David Leibowitz, Dan Lewis, David Martin, Paul McKay, Kyle Moyer, Brian Murray, Sean Noble, Marc Osborn Jessica Pacheco, Martin Sepulveda, Colin Shipley, Jim Waring, Warren Whitney and Chad Willems.  RSVP by Wed., March 4 to   or

·       Frank Riggs, Former Gubernatorial Candidate and CEO of the Joe Foss Institute (JFI) and regarding this afternoon’s bill signing: “The Joe Foss Institute (JFI) would like to thank Governor Ducey for his support in the passage of this important legislation. This is a proud day for Arizonans as we lead the nation in our efforts to ensure effective civics education for our high school students. I hope this bipartisan passage of the Civics Education Initiative shows the way for the rest of the states to adopt similar legislation. It only makes sense that we require our own citizens to have the same understanding of our government’s history and workings as those who must pass the  U.S. citizenship exam in order to become U.S. citizens,” said Frank Riggs, president and CEO of the Joe Foss Institute, the Arizona-based nonprofit that is leading the Civics Education Initiative.”

·       Congressman Paul Gosar’s Protecting U.S. Waters from Federal Overreach Bill:  The Obama Administration has made it clear that it has no intention of following the law or respecting the legislative process when developing federal rules and regulations. President Obama has repeatedly chosen to ignore the will of the American people and govern by executive fiat to implement his far left ideology. This includes the latest attempt by the EPA to obtain control over practically all standing water throughout the U.S. by unilaterally expanding the Clean Water Act. This blatant federal overreach would assert federal jurisdiction over nearly all areas with any hydrologic connection to downstream waters, including man-made constructions such as ditches, pipes and farmland ponds. Contrary to claims made by the EPA and the Corps, this would directly contradict prior U.S. Supreme Court decisions, which imposed limits on the extent of federal CWA authority.? My bill, the Waters of the United States Regulatory Overreach Protection Act which has 168 bipartisan cosponsors, rejects this overreach and requires relevant federal agencies to go back to the drawing board and consult with states and other local officials to formulate a proposal that will then be submitted to Congress for approval. Only Congress has the authority to change or redefine the scope of the CWA, not bureaucrats in Washington. Americans can’t afford more economic hurdles and thievery of precious water supplies from an unaccountable federal government operating in hyper mode.

·        Congressman Paul Gosar’s Bringing ISIS, Other Terrorists To Justice Bill:  The United States, as well as the rest of the world, faces a new barbaric enemy which, left unchecked, threatens our freedoms and innocent American lives. This unconscionable evil has no place in the world and must be snuffed out immediately. The time has come for the United States to take swift and effective action to crush ISIS and other terrorist threats before they grow more emboldened. Without a new war authorization my bill, the Bringing Terrorists to Justice Act, is the best way to combat these terrorists and corrupt their organization from the inside. Putting a bounty on the heads of ISIS terrorists will incentivize people to turn over critical information that will greatly assist the U.S. in bringing these cowards to justice. The United States must clearly demonstrate resolve to bring an end to these atrocities. I want these monsters to know that when you harm innocent Americans, swift and absolute justice will follow close behind.
