·       Congressman Matt Salmon (AZ-05) after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve one week of short-term funding for the Department of Homeland Security. “Since the beginning of this debate, I have said that I would never vote to fund something I believed to be unconstitutional, even for one day.  Today, I kept that promise by voting against a bill that funded the President’s illegal executive actions on amnesty.  Sadly, passing bills that do nothing but kick the can down the road is something that has become commonplace in Washington.  I pledge to continue this fight in one week, so we can responsibly fund the Department of Homeland Security without funding the President’s unconstitutional actions.”

·      A Rule Of Law, Or Of One Man?  Capitol Hill is today, for better or worse, the last bulwark of this country's Rule of Law. If the Republicans -- given a majority in both Houses in order to stop the administration's lawlessness -- cannot hold the line against Obama's illegal amnesty measures, then the Rule of One Man will have triumphed over the Rule of Law. The Members of Congress might as well go home with their tails between their legs, and stop drawing their salaries, because they will not have earned them.

·       Congresswoman Martha McSally will host Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee Jeff Miller in Tucson Sun., March 1 for a tour of the Southern Arizona VA Hospital and to meet with students and administrators at the University of Arizona (UA) VETS Center. The tours will showcase the innovative programs and services being offered to veterans in Southern Arizona. “Southern Arizona has a tradition of excellence in service to our veterans, exemplified by the high quality of care administered at the VA hospital and the nationally recognized VETS Center at the University of Arizona,” said McSally. “These institutions can serve as a model for veteran’s communities around the country, and we’re excited Chairman Miller will have a chance to see them first-hand.”

·       Congressman Matt Salmon (AZ-05), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, today released the following statement after the House Foreign Affairs Committee voted unanimously to pass H.R. 757, the North Korea Sanctions Enforcement Act of 2015. “North Korea has been a consistent violator of international norms, treaties, and laws as evidenced by their unchecked nuclear and chemical weapons programs, their appalling human rights transgressions, and their unprovoked cyber-attack against Sony and universal values like the freedom of expression. This attack was so far outside the bounds of the laws of warfare and standards of statecraft that it can only be regarded as an act of cyber-terrorism. The United States must break North Korea’s cycle of unwarranted aggression and despicable human rights violations against their own people. We hope that these sanctions will force the regime to conform to the expectations of the international community.”

·       The Southern Arizona Health Care System serves over 170,000 Veterans located in eight counties in Southern Arizona and one county in Western New Mexico. In Fiscal Year 2014, it treated over 8,000 inpatients, performed over 5,100 surgeries and completed an excess of 680,000 outpatient visits. It employs over 2,400 health care professionals and support staff, making it one of the largest employers in Southern Arizona, according to Congresswoman Martha McSally’s Communications Director Patrick Ptak. (202) 603-3100

·       The University Of Arizona Veterans Education and Transition Services (VETS) Center serves as a one-stop hub of information and services for student veterans and veterans looking to enter the UA and has received national recognition. In May 2014, Senior Vice President Melissa Vito spoke before a Congressional subcommittee on the University’s innovative programs to support student veterans, which include the VETS Center, Disability Resource Center, and Supportive Education for Returning Veterans Program, according to Congresswoman Martha McSally’s Communications Director Patrick Ptak. (202) 603-3100

·       Pima County Republican Chairman Bill Beard: The key phrase in the 1976 movie Network shouted by the character Howard Beale "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore" sums up a lot of what most folks living in Tucson have felt for a very long time. The direction of Southern Arizona, like it or not, IS influenced by what the political leaders of Tucson do and don't do.  For the foreseeable future our personal, professional, business and family lives will be directly impacted by what Tucson does. The sad reality is that our elected leadership is more concerned with image and feel goods instead of the basics. Their priorities are not ours. It's past time to change that.
As Beale asked, how many of us are past the point of being mad and are actually willing to do something about it? Ready to take the steps needed to truly change Tucson and Southern Arizona? Some of you would make an excellent candidate for the Tucson City Council. There are 4 races this year... Mayor, Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 4 (incumbents Rothschild, Romero, Cunningham and Scott). These are city wide votes in November. Based on the priorities these 4 democrats have passed in their budgets the basics are not a priority for any of them. The City Charter directs the council to provide for 4 primary responsibilities -  Police, Fire, Parks and Roads.

Have any of the incumbents have made even one of these items a priority?  If re-elected will one single thing change for Tucson? The lousy roads, poorly funded police and fire and the embarrassing parks answer the question. If you are past just getting mad and are ready to make the change, we need to talk RIGHT NOW! Contact headquarters at 321-1492 or

·       Gov Doug Ducey today responded to the Auditor General Report highlighting Arizona school district spending for fiscal year 2014. Among its findings, Arizona school districts spent 53.8 percent of its total available dollars on classroom instruction - lower than the national average of 60.9 percent and the lowest percentage in Arizona since 2001. Ducey's budget proposal adds $134 million to the classroom, which equals more than $100 in additional support for every Arizona student. "This report points to Arizona's urgent need to start putting classrooms first and direct more dollars where the learning happens," said Governor Ducey. "We cannot be content with the status quo when we continue to spend significantly less than the national average in the classroom. We owe it to Arizona students and teachers to ensure more money gets to our classrooms so we can be successful in the mission at-hand - improving education results for all Arizona students."

·       Congresswoman Martha McSally after the House and the Senate voted to extend funding for the Department of Homeland Security for one week: “Keeping our communities safe is a top priority of mine. Instead of holding up funding for the men and women who secure our border and defend our homeland, Congress should act to stop the President’s overreach by doing its job. I remained committed to ensuring that our homeland security assets are funded and will continue to work with my colleagues to secure our border and fix our broken immigration system.” Earlier this week, McSally wrote in USA Today about the importance of keeping our national security assets funded. Her op-ed can be read HERE.

·       Sen John McCain On His Vote to fund the Department of Homeland Security: “Over the last month, I have voted six times to stop President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. I continue to believe that these actions represent an unconstitutional overreach. I agreed with the president when he said that issuing them was ‘not an option’ because doing so would amount to ‘ignoring the law in a way that I think would be very difficult to defend legally.’ And while the president himself has conceded these actions as unlawful at least 22 times in recent years, Senate Democrats continue to prevent us from passing a bill invalidating them. Immigration is an issue that must be debated and decided by the representatives of the people, not by executive fiat. I am encouraged by the recent federal district court order in Texas finding that President Obama exceeded his authority under the law with his latest executive action. At the same time, for the safety and security of the American people, and at a time of growing terrorist threats here at home and abroad, I believe we have a responsibility to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security.”
