·       Total Welfare Spending Equates To $168 Per Day For Every Household In Poverty  Hourly Rate Exceeds Median Income By 20%.   These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed! Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2011, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support. What's the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day. To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $25.00 an hour.

·       HB2190 And HB2246 Will Be Heard At 9 Am., March 19 by the Senate Education Committee in the Senate Hearing Room at the State Capitol in Phoenix.  Both bill passed the House in opposition to Common Core; now they both must pass out of the Senate Ed Committee or they die there.   The Maricopa County Republican Precinct Committee (MCRC) passed a resolution in March 2013 in opposition to  Common Core.  The National Republican (RNC) passed a similar resolution in opposition to Common Core in April 2014.  To assure removal of federal control and restoration of local control, contact your state senator.  See    Senators who especially need to hear from you, according to HB2190 and HB2246 supporters:

Jeff Dial (LD18)                      602-926-5550
Adam Driggs (LD28)          602-926-3016
Steve Pierce  (LD1)            602-926-5584

·       Americans For Prosperity is urging voters to contact the Senate’s Debt and Budget Reform Committee Chairman Jeff  Dial and askhim  to put HB 2380 (Truth in Spending) on the State Debt and Budget Reform agenda.  HB 2380, sponsored by Rep. Justin Olson (Mesa), would protect taxpayers by requiring the Legislature to send out a news release warning taxpayers if it plans to increase state government spending faster than the projected rate of growth of the state economy.  HB 2380 has passed the House, and has passed the Senate Appropriations Committee.  But it now appears to be stalled in the Senate's State Debt and Budget Reform Committee.  Call Dial at 602-926-5550 or email  Contact AFP AZ Policy Director Krystal Slivinski at

·       AZCDL Legislative Alerts:

ü  On Wednesday, March 11, HB 2320 and HB 2431 passed out of the House and were sent to the Senate.  On Monday, March 16, the Senate Leadership assigned these bills to Senate Government Committee where they have been placed on the committee’s March 18 meeting agenda.  These bills need to pass out of committee this week if they are to remain viable this session.

ü  HB 2320 (Rep. Brenda Barton, LD-6), is the AzCDL-requested bill that would exempt CCW permit holders from being disarmed when entering state and local government property if their “security” is limited to the flimsy “no firearms” sign bureaucrats like to hide behind, but criminals ignore.  Under the proposed law, everyone entering must be screened if agencies or political subdivisions choose to ban weapons on government property.

ü  HB 2431 (Rep. Bob Thorpe, LD-6), is the AzCDL-requested bill would establish an interstate compact that restricts member states from enacting firearms transfer requirements greater than existing federal law.  In essence, this would create a ceiling that state law could not exceed.  This is a critical piece of legislation to derail Bloomberg’s upcoming gun owner registration scheme in Arizona.

Let the Senate Government Committee members know that there is grassroots support for HB 2320 and HB 2431 and to pass these bills out of committee.  prepared email .   AzCDL Bill Tracking  updated daily.   Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL),

·       The Arizona Department Of Education today announced the release of a public certification portal, which will allow members of the public to verify certificate information of Arizona educators. “I am pleased that we are now able to offer this simple online access to basic certificate information,” said Supt of Public Instruction Diane Douglas. “It will help our parents more easily understand the qualifications held by their children’s teachers and will allow educators to quickly check their certification status.” The Online Arizona Certification and Information System (OACIS) portal will provide open access to certification information and will reduce the need to contact the Department’s Certification office to verify the status of an educator’s certificate. The public portal allows users to view:

ü  Valid educator certificates and endorsements

ü  Certificate deficiencies and requirements to satisfy deficiencies

ü  Current educator positions (grade level and subject)

ü  A Yes/No indication of whether or not an educator has disciplinary history on file. A “Yes” will only be displayed if an educator’s certificate(s) has been revoked, suspended, surrendered, or denied by the Arizona State Board of Education or if similar discipline has been reported by another state to the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC).

Public portal users may search for a certificate by entering the educator’s name or public educator ID number. In order to narrow the search, users also may enter or view the educator’s current position.  The public portal can be accessed at

·       Sen. Jeff Flake highlights the following “egregious and unnecessary waste of taxpayer dollars by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture in FY 2015”: …$4.6 million for researchers “to help gardeners, landscapers, producers, and marketers minimize the effect” of a plant disease affecting garden roses, thus threatening this $400 million “cornerstone of the multi-billion dollar landscape industry.” Notably, major industry growers and breeders benefiting from the grant were able to muster $4.6 million in matching funds. “Most egregious rose handout since Jake chose Vienna,” said Flake

We are working hard to pass HB2246 (Parental Opt Out) before this time frame which would require the State Board of Education to provide these "Opt Out" forms to schools, and provide these to parents. If HB2246 doesn't make it through the legislature in time this is a resource we can use. If your school tells you that you do not have the right to opt your child out of taking the AZMerit, then tell them that you are Refusing to allow your child to take the test.  This is your constitutional right as a parent under state law according to Arizona Revised Statute section 15-102.  Also, data collection on your child without your consent is in violation of the 4th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. ·       Congressman Trent Franks responds to the President's first visit to meet with veterans following the Phoenix VA scandal:"President Lincoln explained that the role of government in caring for veterans is "To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan.”  Unfortunately, the Phoenix VA is ground zero for the tragic failures of bloated, big government bureaucracies. It is demonstrative of the chaos of government empowering itself with the care of our veterans rather than empowering the veteran herself or himself. I fear that the mismanagement and lack-of-care provided to our veterans in Phoenix and around the country will be a microcosm of what we can expect from Obamacare, which puts government in control of healthcare, rather than the doctor and the patient.  Last year Congress attempted to empower veterans by passing sweeping legislation that would provide better access to quality care. Unfortunately, failure by the Executive to implement these changes only allowed access to relatively few. When it comes to serving those who have served us all with honor and distinction, the buck stops at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  I am encouraged that President Obama has finally decided to visit the Phoenix VA Hospital to hear about the travesties that took place there.  It is my hope that he personally invests himself to ensure that what took place here never happens again."
